Despite her grave injuries, Wen Rou forces herself to stay awake, determined to save Wang Xiaoshi. She uses what strength she has left to tear strips from her tent, fashioning them into a makeshift rope, which she then throws down the cliff face. Below, Xiaoshi, drawing on a newfound understanding of swordplay gained from his dreams, discovers the rope and climbs up. He finds Wen Rou unconscious and urgently tries to rouse her, reassuring her that everything will be alright.

Meanwhile, Fang Yingkan arrives at the cliff top. Upon seeing the rope, he realizes that Wen Rou survived, confirming that Xiaoshi must also be alive. He then descends into the valley, intent on confronting a deceased figure. Deep within the valley, Fang Yingkan finds the skeletal remains of his father, the legendary Fang Geyin. He confronts the bones, pouring out years of resentment.

He bitterly accuses Fang Geyin of foolishly provoking powerful adversaries, questioning why he should have been forced to die for his father's actions. Fang Yingkan reveals his deep-seated bitterness, lamenting that Fang Geyin would have given everything—his martial arts prowess, the Fang family's esteemed reputation, and even the Blood River Sword—to his biological son, while Fang Yingkan himself was merely something worthless picked up from the street.

Overwhelmed by emotion, he contemplates destroying the bones but ultimately cannot bring himself to do it. His sword clatters to the ground, and he kneels, bowing his head in a complex gesture of respect and anger. As he rises, his expression hardens, and he vows to kill Fang Geyin's biological son, asserting that he will not falter from this path. Wang Xiaoshi carries the ailing Wen Rou northward, stumbling into a desolate, snow-covered landscape where the blizzard rages fiercely.

He desperately tries to build a fire for warmth, but the wind extinguishes his efforts. Seeing Wen Rou growing paler and weaker, he wraps his own coat around her and holds her tightly, attempting to share his body heat. Wen Rou, in a moment of lucidity, tells him she is not cold with him by her side. Xiaoshi reassures her, promising that they will face any challenge together and create many more cherished memories.

He describes the delicious food, warm charcoals, and kumis they will find in a town nearby, urging her to hold on. Wen Rou expresses fear that it might be too late, but Xiaoshi insists it is not, promising to carry her to safety once the snow lessens. They remain in a tight embrace as darkness falls. In his semi-conscious state, Wang Xiaoshi is surprised to find his master, Recluse Tianyi, by his side.

Tianyi, accompanied by a man named Big Beard and his companions, quickly brings them to a safe haven in a nearby town. Tianyi immediately begins tending to Wen Rou, explaining that she suffered blade cuts and her condition worsened due to exposure to the severe cold, making her critically ill. He assures Xiaoshi that he has administered all available medicine and will remain by her side, vowing not to let her perish.

Big Beard offers Xiaoshi ginger tea and encourages him to rest. Recluse Tianyi then reveals that he is there on a critical mission from Xiaoshi's Martial Uncle Zhuge: to meet and escort Official Liu Anshi, who is expected to arrive within days.

Xiaoshi dimly recalls the name, and Tianyi confirms that Su Mengzhen was the one who initially escorted Official Liu Anshi out of the pass, not only to escape the Youqiao Group's pursuit but, more importantly, to acquire crucial evidence that could potentially bring down Chancellor Cai. Xiaoshi expresses doubt that any evidence could truly challenge Chancellor Cai's immense power.

Recluse Tianyi then recounts the story of Fang Geyin, a highly respected hero of the martial arts world from many years ago. When the Liao people invaded, Fang Geyin rallied people with noble aspirations to form a militia, marching north to resist the invaders and achieving numerous victories. However, their success disrupted Chancellor Cai's lucrative weapons trade. In response, Chancellor Cai secretly issued a dispatch order, sending an army to ambush and annihilate Fang Geyin's militia.

Though he attempted to ensure no one survived, one soldier from the dispatched army escaped with the vital dispatch order. Tianyi explains that after extensive searching, they traced this survivor to Liao, believing he still possesses the document. He emphasizes that this dispatch order, bearing Chancellor Cai's official seal, is the irrefutable evidence needed to expose his crimes. Tianyi concludes that overthrowing Chancellor Cai is the only way to clear Xiaoshi's name and end their lives as fugitives.

In his prison cell, Bai Choufei falls into a troubled sleep, dreaming of Wang Xiaoshi bidding him farewell. He awakens to the presence of his new cellmate, Bai Gaotang, an elderly man who recounts stories that eerily parallel Bai Choufei's own experiences with Xiaoshi. Bai Gaotang points to an inscription on the cell wall: "It's fine if I can't make a sound. But when I do, I'll make the loudest noise. It's fine if I can't fly.

But when I do, I'll soar to the highest." He claims he and his brother carved these words, the very words Bai Choufei himself had carved with Xiaoshi. Bai Gaotang lectures Bai Choufei, dismissing "resolve" as mere self-consolation and asserting that life is too short to die for meaningless principles. He urges Bai Choufei to seize any opportunity for success, regardless of morality, to gain power so his own words will become "justice itself."

Bai Gaotang's form becomes distorted, and he reveals his name was once Bai Choufei, a name he chose because he "worried for the land and its future." This causes Bai Choufei to realize that Bai Gaotang is a hallucination, a reflection of his own burgeoning ambition. Following this realization, his thoughts turn towards a ruthless pursuit of money and power. Shortly thereafter, Chancellor Cai arrives and offers Bai Choufei a partnership, which he accepts.

Under the cloak of night, the rescue operation for Bai Choufei commences. Before the mission, Zhu Xiaoyao is cautioned about the inherent dangers, but she is determined to fulfill what she believes would have been Wang Xiaoshi's wish to save Bai Choufei. Following the plan, she leads her comrades in an attempt to breach the Ministry of Justice's dungeon.

However, upon infiltrating the prison, they are horrified to discover Bai Choufei not only unharmed but actively leading a group of new allies. They confront him, branding him a traitor who betrayed their trust. Bai Choufei dismisses their accusations, telling them their words will soon be unheard. He then brutally stabs a House of Fine Rain brother, unequivocally sealing his betrayal.
