Heroes Episode 21 Recap
> Heroes Recap
As snow intensified, falling heavily as if to engulf everything, Su Mengzhen arrived alone to meet Lei Sun. He directly confronted Lei Sun, stating his awareness that Lei Sun was using his own daughter, Lei Chun, as a pawn. Lei Sun admitted his desperation, explaining that Youqiao Group had suggested that his survival depended on taking Su Mengzhen's life. Su Mengzhen proposed an alliance: if they joined forces to eradicate Youqiao Group, they would find a true path to survival.
However, Lei Sun scoffed, asserting that a martial artist's survival depended on their own blade, and since Youqiao Group was out of reach, killing Su Mengzhen was the easier option. Moments later, Di Feijing and his Six Half Hall followers surrounded Su Mengzhen. Before assassins attempting a surprise attack from the water could even find their footing, Su Mengzhen swiftly defeated them. Meanwhile, Wang Xiaoshi found Wen Rou's jade pendant on the street, immediately sensing trouble.
At the same time, in a dead-end alley, Wen Rou was knocked unconscious by a mysterious assailant while trying to protect Lei Chun. The assailant then trapped Lei Chun, slowly removing her outer clothing. Despite her desperate struggles, she was helpless. By the time Wang Xiaoshi arrived, it was too late. When Wen Rou regained consciousness, she anxiously asked about Lei Chun.
In a panic, Lei Chun stopped her, desperately trying to hide bloodstains in the snow and urging Wang Xiaoshi to rush to Shili Pavilion to save Su Mengzhen. Both Bai Choufei and Wang Xiaoshi arrived at Shili Pavilion, where a fierce battle unfolded. The explosives inside the pavilion were ignited by an unknown trigger, and Di Feijing shoved Lei Sun into the structure. A powerful explosion followed, and Lei Sun vanished amidst the swirling snow.
Recognizing Di Feijing's intent to save his master via a staged death, the others departed without a word. After they left, Di Feijing dove into the water and rescued the injured Lei Sun. Reaching a safe place, Lei Chun immersed herself in a tub of water, vigorously scrubbing her skin as if to wash away something profoundly defiling, but the trauma remained. Back at the House of Sunset Drizzle, an injured Su Mengzhen finally coughed up a mouthful of blood.
He knew the news of their victory over the Six Half Hall would spread, and he could not afford to rest, insisting he would endure as they had important guests to receive. Later, Su Mengzhen went to visit Lei Chun but hesitated outside her door, unable to find the courage to enter. Lei Chun, hearing movement, eagerly rushed towards the door, only to stop abruptly as a painful memory surfaced. She leaned on Wen Rou's shoulder, sleepless, throughout the night.
The following morning, she received the devastating news of her father's "death," with Di Feijing publicly named as the killer. Wen Rou, deeply concerned, later explained to Wang Xiaoshi that Lei Chun had not shed a single tear, trying to bravely endure the pain alone. Elsewhere, Lei Sun awoke, furious, and berated Di Feijing for orchestrating his fake death without permission. As the Chief of the Six Half Hall, he was unwilling to live in hiding.
However, the thought of his daughter, Lei Chun, made him hesitate. Di Feijing planned for Lei Sun to go to Yangzhou to hide, promising to bring Lei Chun to him once the situation settled. They traveled to Beiying Forest, the burial site of Lei Zhenlei. Lei Sun recounted how, seven years prior, he had murdered Lei Zhenlei, then the leader of their parent sect, to prevent him from taking power in the capital.
He recalled a rainstorm that washed away the grave's fresh soil, leaving Lei Zhenlei's dead eyes staring at him all night. Lei Sun then asked Di Feijing whether his loyalty lay with him, the Six Half Hall, or Lei Chun. Without hesitation, Di Feijing declared his ultimate loyalty was to Lei Chun. Lei Sun found this answer sufficient but could not accept leaving the martial world in defeat. He entrusted Lei Chun's protection to Di Feijing before riding away alone.
Watching him go, Di Feijing recalled the snowy night years ago when Lei Sun and his wife had saved him, giving him a home and treating him like a son. That evening, Su Mengzhen hosted a grand feast at Across The Sea Hall, inviting influential figures from the martial world.
He explained to Wang Xiaoshi and Bai Choufei that these guests were adept at adapting to shifting powers, and the feast was a demonstration of strength to force them to choose an allegiance. He warned them to remain vigilant, as he did not believe Di Feijing had truly betrayed his master, nor that Lei Sun was actually dead.
Meanwhile, Lei Mei, initially overjoyed after hearing of Lei Sun's supposed death in a tavern, was intercepted by members of the Six Half Hall who informed her that their chief was alive. At the feast, watching a triumphant Su Mengzhen, Bai Choufei expressed his desire to become a great hero like him. Wang Xiaoshi mused that true heroes are adaptable and resilient, graceful in both victory and defeat.
Bai Choufei praised Wang Xiaoshi's insight but disagreed, stating that a man cannot live without power; happiness comes from attaining it, and suffering from its loss. Wang Xiaoshi cautioned him that while ambition is good, it cannot be rushed, or it may bring more misfortune than blessings. As gifts arrived, Fang Yingkan, absent from the feast, sent a magnificent jade screen. He was followed by members of the Six Half Hall, who arrived carrying a coffin as their "celebratory" gift.
