The House of Sunset Drizzle welcomed Bai Choufei and Wang Xiaoshi into their ranks. An Advisor led Bai Choufei upstairs for his ceremony to become Vice House Master. In a room at the White Tower's highest point, typically reserved only for the House Master, the Advisor presented Bai Choufei with a rare liquor named Qing Yun Gui. He explained that this gesture signified Su Mengzhen's intent and that after drinking, Bai Choufei would be formally recognized as Vice House Master.

Su Mengzhen then declared that the House had been transparent with them, and now it was their turn. The Advisor proceeded to read from detailed profiles he had compiled. Bai Choufei, twenty-six, was described as arrogant, unrestrained, and merciless in combat, with a small birthmark on his left chest and a history of aliases. Wang Xiaoshi joked about Bai Choufei's "rich experience," which Bai Choufei corrected to "hardships."

Concerned, Bai Choufei asked who had access to this information, and Su Mengzhen assured him only three people in the House, himself included. Next, the Advisor read Wang Xiaoshi's profile: a twenty-year-old disciple of Recluse Tianyi, known for being kind to the weak, which once resulted in him being beaten by seven ruffians. Wen Rou interjected that this simply proved his martial arts were poor. The Advisor then detailed Wang Xiaoshi's fifteen heartbreaks since age thirteen.

As Bai Choufei mocked him, Wang Xiaoshi vehemently denied the information's accuracy, but an angered Wen Rou refused to listen to his explanations. Su Mengzhen then praised the Advisor, noting his skill in information gathering via the "Messenger Pigeon Group" he established was unparalleled. As a gift, Su Mengzhen gave them a new residence. While Bai Choufei admired its elegance, Wang Xiaoshi was bothered by an ugly rock in the courtyard.

After complaining it was "too ugly," he placed a paper with the character for "Chou" (愁, sorrow/worry) on it. Meanwhile, Lei Sun, Fu Zongshu, and Di Feijing discussed the compromised northern business route. Lei Sun concluded Su Mengzhen was bluffing but still investigating, so the route had to be changed. Fu Zongshu demanded they teach Su Mengzhen a harsh lesson.

When Di Feijing expressed reluctance about more bloodshed, Lei Sun told him to handle the "lesson" for Su Mengzhen, stating that he himself would handle any necessary killing if Di Feijing was afraid to get his hands dirty. A Six Half Hall agent approached Long Xiaoqing, an elder of Sunset Drizzle House, to sow discord over Bai Choufei's appointment as Vice House Master. Though Long Xiaoqing was displeased with the decision, he dismissed the agent's attempt at provocation.

The agent then revealed that the white jade box that led to Hua Wucuo's downfall contained proof that Hua was a Six Half Hall spy. To prove it, he presented a pledge written in Hua Wucuo's recognizable handwriting, suggesting that Long Xiaoqing's position in the House was no longer secure. Under the name Miss Tian, Lei Chun hosted a celebratory banquet for Wang Xiaoshi, Bai Choufei, and Wen Rou.

During the pleasant dinner, Bai Choufei noticed Lei Chun's hairpin and his expression briefly froze, as if he recognized it. After they parted ways, Lei Chun realized her hairpin was missing and returned to the restaurant's courtyard. She found Bai Choufei waiting there, holding the lost accessory. He told her of the Capital's "Dragon and Phoenix House" legend and, remembering he owed her a performance, played a melody for her on his flute.

In a grim meeting, Lei Sun confronted the men running his northern business, reminding them he had saved them from death row years ago. He presented them with a choice: a quick death with their earnings sent to their families, or a life of imprisonment in a dark well, the fate of their predecessor. One man chose suicide, thanking Lei Sun for the extra years of life.

After the others followed suit, Lei Sun callously ordered his subordinate, Lei Chong, to eliminate all their families, blaming Su Mengzhen for forcing his hand. At the same time, an edict from the Ministry of Justice temporarily recalled all city patrols, giving Lei Sun's forces an open window to act until dawn. That night, Long Xiaoqing met with two other elders, Mo Beichen and another, to set a trap for Di Feijing.

After voicing his frustrations with Su Mengzhen's leadership to feign a real dispute, Long Xiaoqing staged an attack on his two co-conspirators, who played dead. When Di Feijing arrived, Long Xiaoqing presented the "bodies" as a sign of his allegiance. However, Mo Beichen and the other elder sprang up, revealing their ambush. The trap failed, as their reinforcements outside had already been eliminated by Six Half Hall.

Li Niantang, another House elder, then appeared, revealing he had betrayed them to Di Feijing. Di Feijing easily overpowered them, capturing Long Xiaoqing but sparing the other two. He ordered them to return to Su Mengzhen with a message: "learn the rules and know his place." The Advisor reported the devastating results of the attack to Su Mengzhen: Long Xiaoqing was captured, Li Niantang had defected, dozens of their men were killed, and multiple shops and branches were burned down.

Bai Choufei furiously proposed killing Di Feijing, but Su Mengzhen refused, explaining that Di Feijing was a rational man whose survival would be crucial for stabilizing the city should Six Half Hall ever collapse. Wang Xiaoshi suggested they rescue Long Xiaoqing, whom he now respected as a man of integrity, and capture the traitor Li Niantang. Su Mengzhen agreed to rescue their brother but declared that traitors deserve only death, not capture.

Taking command, Su Mengzhen ordered Bai Choufei and Wang Xiaoshi to exploit the window before the city patrols returned, tasking them with rescuing Long Xiaoqing and eliminating Li Niantang that very night.
