Guardian Episode 35 Recap
> Guardian Recap
In the distant past, the man who would be known as Kunlun gives the Black Robed Envoy a new name: Shen Wei. Shen Wei gladly accepts it and recounts his past, explaining that he and his brother were orphaned and struggled to survive in a harsh world transformed by a meteorite strike. Unwilling to accept the world's cruelty, he began to punish wrongdoers, earning his title as the Black Robed Envoy.
Kunlun observes that Shen Wei's righteous nature is undeniable, and that he would always fight for his conscience, even if it brought him no joy. Meanwhile, Shen Wei's brother, not yet the Night King, is a powerless subordinate to the brutal Rebel Chieftain. After the Night King's suggestion for activating the four hallows is dismissed, the Chieftain mocks him and threatens to hunt down and kill his brother, the Black Robed Envoy.
This enrages the younger brother, who declares that only he has the right to kill his sibling. When the Chieftain attacks him in a fury, he inadvertently awakens the young man's latent power of absorption. The future Night King consumes the Chieftain, taking his power, which turns his hair white. Donning a white robe, he sets himself on a path of opposition to his brother. Da Qing delivers urgent news that the Rebel Regiment's leader is attacking with the hallows.
Kunlun and Black Robed Envoy set out immediately, successfully reclaiming the four sacred artifacts—the Karma Brush, Longevity Sundial, Mountain-River Awl, and Guardian Lantern—from the rebels. With the task complete, Kunlun prepares to return to his own time through a wormhole. A reluctant Da Qing pleads with him to stay. Kunlun reassures the young werecat and entrusts him with a bell, meant for a future master. Valuing his freedom, Da Qing initially refuses, but Kunlun insists he keep it.
Just then, the Night King appears, tracking the hallows. He stuns Shen Wei by calling him "Brother," feigning remorse and claiming he was manipulated by the Rebel Chieftain. Overwhelmed by the reunion, Shen Wei lets his guard down, only for the Night King to attack him, snarling that Shen Wei is the one who deserves to die. The hallows' power erupts, tearing the landscape apart and pulling Kunlun into a wormhole.
As the Night King is immobilized by the sacred power, he cries out for his brother's help. Despite the betrayal, Shen Wei tries to save him, but the force is too great. Consumed by hatred, the Night King plummets into an abyss, where he is imprisoned in the Sky Pillar for 10,000 years. In the aftermath, Shen Wei accepts custody of the hallows and begins wearing a mask, unable to bear seeing a face that resembles his brother's.
Within the time-distorting wormhole, Shen Wei finds Kunlun, revealing he has searched for him for 10,000 years. They return to their time together, discovering only two days have passed, but the situation has worsened. Da Qing, having hidden as a cat in the Marine Administration, reports that the Subterraneans have declared war on humanity, incited by an imposter impersonating the Black Robed Envoy.
The Night King, with the allegiance of the Regent and the new Lord Earth, has publicly burned the 10,000-year-old peace treaty, declaring it a hoax and rallying the Subterraneans to "Rule the Marine." Shen Wei blames himself for not dealing with his brother decisively in the past. During this unrest, Guo Changcheng is brought to the Marine Administration by his uncle.
Shen Wei explains that the Night King's power is not yet strong enough to control all Subterraneans, forcing him to use deception to start a mutiny. Confident the SID members are in hiding, Shen Wei mentions that he has already sent Da Qing to find them. He and Kunlun then set out to locate Lin Jing.
