Following the suggestion from Nan Xiangwan and Liu Yubai, Zhu Cong agrees to tutor Class Seven as a means to identify the student who anonymously submitted a uniquely challenging question from Guanhua University. Before this, Lin Xiaoran had sought advice from Chen Shiyun on what birthday gift to get for a "very good friend." Zhu Cong begins his tutoring session in Class Seven, finding the students' questions overly simple.
When asked to speak more slowly and clearly, he arrogantly states he will only explain things once and demands that all the girls take meticulous notes for him to collect afterward, believing the mystery questioner is among them. Meanwhile, Nan Xiangwan gives Lin Xiaoran a ticket to an important lecture, stressing that he must be on time. However, Lin Xiaoran is delayed while making a homemade birthday cake for her.
He arrives just two minutes late and is denied entry by a strict security guard. Inside, Nan Xiangwan is distracted, wondering why he hasn't arrived. After the lecture, she praises its value and is annoyed by his absence. She later learns from Zhang Chao that Lin Xiaoran was seen being called away by Chen Shiyun. Furious, Nan Xiangwan confronts Lin Xiaoran outside the lecture hall, berating him for wasting the hard-to-get ticket and being careless.
Lin Xiaoran’s attempt to explain that the guard barred his entry is cut short by Nan Xiangwan, who insists that being late at all is unacceptable. Feeling unheard and untrusted, Lin Xiaoran brings up the past incident with Zeng Jianfei, accusing her of having a bias against Class Seven students and suggesting she would have treated a Class Two student like Liu Yubai differently.
Despite the heated argument, he presents her with the homemade cake, wishes her a happy birthday, and walks away. Liu Yubai, who witnessed the exchange, gently tells Nan Xiangwan her reaction was excessive. Back home, Nan Xiangwan finds a note from her mother reminding her it’s her birthday. Seeing the cake, she is struck with regret, realizing that both her mother and Lin Xiaoran had remembered her special day when she herself had forgotten.
The next day, Lin Xiaoran is still sullen. Nan Xiangwan tries to apologize, but their conversation is interrupted by Wang Feng, who urgently informs Nan Xiangwan that Liu Yubai’s family is in the news and he was taken from school by a group of people during morning self-study. During class, Nan Xiangwan is distracted, sketching a "Public Relations Event Chain" for "Yurun Enterprise," which earns her a reprimand from her teacher, Wang Qibei.
Afterward, Lin Xiaoran questions her intense concern for Liu Yubai’s family, only then realizing "Yurun" is his father's company. He dismisses her worry, accusing her of overreacting. As gossip spreads that Liu Yubai and Lin Xiaoran are both pursuing Chen Shiyun, Zhu Cong approaches Liu Jiaojiao, mistakenly believing she is the one who gave him the difficult question. He publicly rejects her supposed advances, stating he is focused on studying.
Unfazed, Liu Jiaojiao, who does have a crush on him, cryptically remarks that geniuses are often "duplicitous." Meanwhile, Liu Yubai skips school to go to his father's company. His father dismisses his concerns, insisting he focus on the college entrance exam and leave adult matters to him.
Liu Yubai argues he is old enough to help, even mentioning Nan Xiangwan’s knowledge of their company's affairs, but his father sends him away, repeating that his only job is to get into Guanhua University. After school, Lin Xiaoran sees Nan Xiangwan get Liu Yubai's address from Chen Shiyun and follows her. They arrive at Liu Yubai’s apartment late at night.
Nan Xiangwan explains that his family's company is facing a public relations crisis stemming from a partner leaking information, similar to a "Yurun crisis case" from 2011. She urges him to hire a specific lawyer, Zhou Huaiqiu, to minimize the damage and potentially even strengthen the company. As they leave, Lin Xiaoran remarks that her foresight makes him believe she is from the future, but she dismisses it, saying that grasping the present is what truly matters.
Elsewhere, a stunned Chen Shiyun witnesses an intimate moment between her father and Lin Xiaoran's mother. When Liu Yubai's father returns, Liu Yubai suggests hiring Lawyer Zhou Huaiqiu from the Deep Sea Law Firm. His father reveals he has already hired Feng Qizheng, a top lawyer whose expertise, Liu Yubai argues, doesn't fit their current needs. The father-son argument escalates, with Liu Yubai expressing frustration that their relationship revolves only around his academic future.
The next day, Zhu Cong observes Liu Yubai, who has secured guaranteed admission to Guanhua University, and notes that while he has many choices, he lacks the courage to forge his own path. As the first of three crucial mock exams approaches, the teachers remind the students of the "class exchange system," warning those in the top class not to get complacent.
