Ye Meng had several encounters with Li Jinyu in just two days, and his appearance matched her aesthetic. When her aunt contacted Dr. Gao again to arrange a blind date, Ye Meng immediately considered asking Li Jinyu to be her pretend boyfriend. She tried to add Li Jinyu on WeChat but was rejected.
Undeterred, she proposed they date, only for Li Jinyu to refuse, mocking her for being eager to marry at her age and stating he preferred younger, "obedient and easy to fool" girls. He then openly added a younger girl on WeChat in front of Ye Meng. Walking home, Ye Meng traversed familiar streets, memories of her youth resurfacing. To her surprise, Dr. Gao accepted all her demands. Finally, she used her ultimate tactic, insisting that any future children take her surname. Dr. Gao readily agreed, which delighted the elders.
Left with no choice, Ye Meng decided to move back to her ancestral home to escape the relentless pressure to marry. On her first day back at the ancestral home, Ye Meng used a supposed electrical issue as an excuse to hire Li Jinyu, gaining entry into his home, where she unexpectedly discovered antidepressant medication. She also noticed a book titled "Memory Palace."
During their conversation, Ye Meng learned that Li Jinyu possessed an exceptional memory despite only having a high school diploma. She shared her own struggles with her college entrance exams, but as she attempted to invite him to dinner, Jiang Luzhi called. Jiang Luzhi informed Li Jinyu that she was returning to Ningse to be a bridesmaid for a high school classmate and wanted to meet him in person to "clear things up," effectively ending Ye Meng's dinner plans.
On a day of remembrance, Li Jinyu visited a grave alone, memories flooding his mind. He recalled being pushed out of a door by his mother as a child, only to be comforted by his father. Later, after a car explosion, his mother angrily slapped and berated him, these moments forming permanent, painful images in his mind. Just then, several cars arrived, interrupting Li Jinyu's thoughts.
He turned and left without a word, and a man in one of the cars immediately made a phone call. When Li Jinyu returned later, Ye Meng greeted him warmly and offered him milk pudding she claimed to have made herself. However, his cold demeanor infuriated her, prompting her to storm off to confide in her best friend, Fang Ya’en. As they were talking, Li Jinyu arrived at Fang Ya’en’s clothing store, having taken a part-time job there.
Before the lingering tension between Ye Meng and Li Jinyu could dissipate, Cheng Kairan entered, seeking to apologize to Ye Meng for their previous confrontation. Cheng Kairan, sensing Ye Meng's interest in Li Jinyu, warned her to be careful of him, calling him a "scumbag" and claiming his kindness to the elderly was fake. He asserted that Li Jinyu had once sent someone to the ICU and had a history of manipulating women.
At that moment, Chen Jian, Fang Ya’en's estranged husband, arrived to pick up their son, Jiaoyu. Everyone present was aware of Chen Jian and Fang Ya’en’s impending divorce and the resulting strained relationship. After Chen Jian left, Cheng Kairan, angered by Ye Meng’s defense of Li Jinyu, announced that Li Jinyu was fired from the bar and no longer needed to work there.
