The Journey of Chongzi Episode 35 Recap
> The Journey of Chongzi Recap
Wang Yue confronted Yin Xinmo, revealing his true identity as Leng Wanli, the third disciple of Xueling from the Tianshan Sect. Wang Yue observed that Leng Wanli was deeply affectionate, having chosen to become a demon for love, even changing his appearance and leaving the immortal sects to be with Yin Shuixian.
Leng Wanli had been a top talent among the younger generation in Tianshan, and his disappearance after Yin Shuixian's fall was initially thought to be a death at the hands of demons. Yin Xinmo, in despair, questioned why Xueling had made Yin Shuixian fall in love with him only to abandon her. Wang Yue pressed him, asking if he felt unreconciled, given that he had guarded Yin Shuixian for so long, yet she never knew his true identity.
Leng Wanli lamented her death, stating it no longer mattered if he was unreconciled, and suggested perhaps Yin Shuixian knew but refused to acknowledge it. Wang Yue then delivered Yin Shuixian's dying message: she asked Chong Zi to take care of Xueling. This revelation was a cruel blow to Leng Wanli. Wang Yue advised him to let go of his obsession, concluding that "what's done cannot be undone; there is no looking back" before leaving.
Leng Wanli was left to his desperate laughter and sorrow. Luo Yinfan found his Zhubo sword outside Chonghua Palace and, having no memory of why he abandoned it, questioned Ting Xue. She fabricated a story, claiming he had been overcome with sadness upon hearing of Yunji's death and had thus abandoned the sword. Luo Yinfan was surprised to learn of Yunji's death, realizing he had no recollection of it.
Though he wanted to ask more about her death, he decided against it, declaring his intention to visit the Mortal World instead. Ting Xue offered to accompany him. Wang Yue's scheme to open the Tianhe Gate caused the East Sea to reverse its flow, flooding the mortal world and resulting in countless casualties.
Chong Zi confronted Wang Yue, realizing she had been deceived; the demon beasts guarding the gate were not threats but protectors, who had ultimately died at her and Luo Yinfan's hands. Wang Yue coldly justified his actions, pointing out that immortal sects also kill other creatures. Chong Zi, enraged and feeling betrayed by even Tian Zhixie for his part in the deception, resolved to seal the gate herself.
Tian Zhixie cautioned her against intervening due to her soft heart, warning that it would prevent her from cultivating into a Celestial Demon. Meanwhile, Zhuo Yao, Qinghua Palace's Lord, dispatched Zhuo Hao to the East Sea, strictly instructing him to avoid causing trouble, especially concerning Chong Zi. Qin Ke, recognizing the gravity of the situation, also rushed to the East Sea.
Chong Zi had already plunged into the sea, located the Tianhe Gate, and was using much of her spiritual energy to control the collapsing structure, hoping to hold it long enough for the immortal sects to bring repair materials. Luo Yinfan arrived, misinterpreting Chong Zi's actions as an attempt to destroy the gate. He drew his Zhubo sword and wounded her. Seeing his sword, Chong Zi understood he had lost his memory and offered no explanation.
As Luo Yinfan prepared to strike a fatal blow, Qin Ke intervened, providing him with the necessary materials and urging him to repair the gate first. He then quickly told Chong Zi that Luo Yinfan no longer recognized her and urged her to flee. Chong Zi escaped as Luo Yinfan successfully used the materials to repair the collapsed pillar and close the Tianhe Gate. Upon returning to Nanhua, Luo Yinfan was lauded by Min Yunzhong for his heroic act.
Min Yunzhong lamented the escape of Demon Zi, calling for her demise, a sentiment echoed by Ting Xue. However, Luo Yinfan expressed his belief that the demon possessed good intentions and spiritual power, suggesting she shouldn't be considered a typical demon, and asked about her true origin. Ting Xue quickly interjected, painting Chong Zi as a scheming demon who had bewildered Luo Yinfan. Qin Ke, unable to bear their slander, interrupted.
He reminded them that Ting Xue's own presence in Nanhua was due to Chong Zi and that Chong Zi was not as evil as they claimed, urging Luo Yinfan to recall past events. Later, in a private conversation, Luo Yinfan pressed Ting Xue about Chong Zi. Ting Xue spun a tale of Chong Zi's malicious jealousy, claiming Chong Zi had killed Yunji out of spite after Luo Yinfan chose her instead of Chong Zi as his disciple.
Ting Xue further feigned a noble resignation, claiming to have moved past her affection for Luo Yinfan and now only regarded him as a friend. Min Yunzhong then joined in, confirming Ting Xue's story and elaborating on Chong Zi's supposed past misdeeds, including being born with malevolent energy, consorting with demons, stealing artifacts, and murdering disciples. Luo Yinfan, convinced by their deceit, blamed himself for Chong Zi's supposed fall from grace, believing he had failed to guide her.
He resolved to counsel her towards goodness to atone for his negligence. Min Yunzhong and Ting Xue privately noted Chong Zi's profound influence on Luo Yinfan, realizing that even the Tears of Phoenix had not completely erased his underlying sentiments. Chong Zi woke up in Shuiyue City, discovering Mu Yu had used his own spiritual power to replenish hers, which was depleted from sealing the Tianhe Gate.
Touched by his devotion but still distressed by Luo Yinfan's memory loss, she sought solace in the mortal world with Mu Yu. There, they encountered Jinchi and his wife, living as contented mortals despite their humble circumstances. Chong Zi admired their simple happiness and offered to fetch them fine wine from Xichun Restaurant to celebrate. While Chong Zi and Mu Yu were away, disciples from the Kunlun Sect surrounded the tavern.
Jinchi and his wife, accepting their past sins of harming immortal disciples, chose to sacrifice themselves as atonement. Returning to find their bodies, Chong Zi was overwhelmed by grief. Fearing Mu Yu would also leave her, she made him promise to stay by her side forever. Mu Yu, unwilling for Chong Zi to bear such pain alone, resolved to complete one final act for her.
While Chong Zi slept, he secretly went to Nanhua and learned from Qin Ke that Luo Yinfan's memory loss was due to the Tears of Phoenix. Qin Ke revealed that its antidote, Phoenix blood, had been unattainable for five hundred years. Mu Yu then disguised himself as Chong Zi and confronted Luo Yinfan. He recounted their shared history, deliberately provoking Luo Yinfan into striking him.
As Luo Yinfan's Heart Poison flared from the act, he was forced to confront the depth of his feelings for Chong Zi. Mu Yu, fatally wounded, briefly manifested his spirit in Chong Zi's dream to bid her a sorrowful farewell, stating he had done all he could for her. Wang Yue, sensing Mu Yu's essence vanish, discovered he had been killed by Luo Yinfan and informed Chong Zi of the tragedy.
Concurrently, Luo Yinfan, disturbed by his encounter and the recurring pain in his heart, pressed Min Yunzhong and Yu Du for the true story of Chong Zi and the Tears of Phoenix. Despite their evasiveness, Luo Yinfan insisted on knowing the truth, reasoning that his Heart Poison could only manifest in someone who had loved. He dismissed their denials, stating that if they wouldn't tell him, someone else would.
Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by a frantic disciple, who reported that Chong Zi was on a rampage in the Kunlun Sect, threatening to slaughter every disciple there unless she was allowed to seek revenge at Nanhua.
