Xu Huijie's deep-seated ambition for the lead embroiderer position intensified, leading to a heated argument with Jin Zhiming, who confronted her about burning Song Xiuhua's competition dress. Jin Zhiming asserted that Xu Huijie was climbing to success over others, and he offered her an ultimatum: either move to America with him and give up the competition, or they would divorce.
Xu Huijie, however, defiantly claimed that men could excel in their careers, so women should also be allowed to have such ambition. She even justified her actions by pointing out that Jin Zhiming had previously hidden her competition clothing. Overhearing their parents' bitter dispute, Jin Yi Bei was devastated by the talk of divorce. Later, a worried Jin Yi Bei complained to Li Yunkai that her parents were annoying and that even her kite seemed to dislike her.
Li Yunkai, in turn, comforted her, promising to retrieve her kite and suggesting that adults could be immature and their words might change. He advised Jin Yi Bei that if she truly wanted to prevent their divorce, she should make her parents happy. Jin Yi Bei, feeling inspired, gave Li Yunkai a handmade amulet, explaining that she had commanded it to make him happy.
Li Yunkai then confided in Jin Yi Bei about his own father becoming distant after his new mother moved in. He also told her about his late mother, who lived happily in heaven. He assured Jin Yi Bei that the amulet would ensure her mother's happiness in heaven and make her father nicer to her, advising her to do things her father enjoyed, like serving him pizza.
They promised to meet the next day for a pizza lunch, and Jin Yi Bei affectionately called Li Yunkai "Big Brother." Jin Yi Bei later approached Song Xiuhua, asking for help to tie a "truelove knot" on the amulet for her parents. Song Xiuhua, noticing the amulet was nicely made, patiently taught her.
Jin Yi Bei expressed frustration with her own embroidery skills compared to Song Xiuhua and her mother, but Song Xiuhua reassured her, encouraging her unique "caterpillar embroidery" style. Meanwhile, Jin Zhiming discussed his marital problems with his brother, Jin Zhida, who advised him to be more understanding towards Xu Huijie. Separately, Li Yunkai's father spoke with He Juan, reassuring her that he was leaving his late wife (Li Yunkai's mother)'s immovable property for Li Yunkai.
He Juan claimed she was content with their current life and wouldn't think of taking others' things, and Li Yunkai's father expressed his deep affection for her, believing she was sensible and understood him, calling marrying her the most correct thing he had ever done. Unbeknownst to him, He Juan had a hidden resentment.
She recalled discovering that Li Yunkai's biological mother, whom she had only perceived as an ordinary housewife, possessed significant wealth, leading He Juan to rationalize Li Yunkai's mother's death as a mere accident, unrelated to herself, and attributing it to misfortune. Driven by her burning ambition, Xu Huijie decided she must become the next heir of Golden Thread Embroidery, determined to escape her past as a janitor's daughter.
Song Xiuhua, having realized that only Teacher Cui, Dong Lijun's senior, held the key to mastering the "Fuchun Mountains" embroidery technique, understood that Xu Huijie would likely reach the same conclusion. Song Xiuhua attempted to counsel Xu Huijie about the true meaning of embroidery, emphasizing that it should be imbued with love for family, implying that abandoning family for fame would go against the embroiderer's goals.
Xu Huijie, however, accused Song Xiuhua of trying to force her out of the competition because Dong Lijun hadn't declared Song Xiuhua the winner. Song Xiuhua patiently clarified that she was advising her as an older sister-in-law, fearing Xu Huijie might later regret her sacrifices. Later, Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida prepared to drive to Jiangling that night to see Teacher Cui, realizing their responsibility to protect the Jin family and Golden Thread Embroidery.
Despite the late hour, Jin Zhida insisted on accompanying Song Xiuhua to ensure her safety. Song Xiuhua called Xu Huijie, attempting to make amends by admitting she and Jin Zhida knew Xu Huijie had burned Song Xiuhua's competition dress and offering her a chance to repent and salvage her marriage. Xu Huijie vehemently denied the accusation and, hearing car noises in the background, realized Song Xiuhua was already on her way to Teacher Cui.
Xu Huijie defiantly stated that no one could stop her ambition. Rushing to leave, Xu Huijie was intercepted by Jin Zhiming, who renewed his plea for divorce, citing Xu Huijie's ruthless actions and lack of remorse. Xu Huijie dismissed him, prioritizing her urgent trip. Jin Yi Bei, trying to stop her mother, accidentally injured her leg.
Xu Huijie, however, scolded her daughter for getting in the way of her dream and left anyway, telling Jin Zhiming to take care of Jin Yi Bei while blaming him for revealing the dress incident. As Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida continued their drive towards Jiangling, Xu Huijie sped off, taking a shortcut, determined to reach Teacher Cui first. Unseen, Jin Yi Bei secretly climbed into Xu Huijie's car, hoping to follow her mother and help reconcile her parents.
While secretly in her mother's car, Jin Yi Bei thought about her love for her parents and wished for them to always be together. Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida successfully met with Teacher Cui, who, despite her failing health and eyesight, gave Song Xiuhua an embroidered piece of "Fuchun Mountains" that she had painstakingly worked on, hoping it would guide Song Xiuhua to the correct method. As Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida departed the nursing home, Xu Huijie arrived.
Unseen by Song Xiuhua, Xu Huijie pursued their car, relentlessly honking to force them to stop. Distracted by the persistent horn, Song Xiuhua turned to investigate, only to realize too late that their car was about to hit a warning sign. Despite her desperate attempt to brake, the vehicle careened out of control and crashed violently into a large tree. Jin Zhida was thrown from the car, falling unconscious, while Song Xiuhua also sustained injuries and lost consciousness.
Xu Huijie, in a panicked state, rushed to the scene. Seeing Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida unconscious, she briefly considered calling the police but, overwhelmed by fear of interrogation, quickly turned and drove away. In her haste, a valuable earring fell from her ear, unnoticed. Unbeknownst to Xu Huijie, Jin Yi Bei, who had been secretly in her car, had also exited the vehicle and was left behind at the accident site.
The young Jin Yi Bei, helpless and alone, eventually wandered off the road and was struck by another car, suffering from amnesia as a result. Back at Golden Thread Embroidery, a distraught Xu Huijie was comforted by Ding Wei, who promised to provide an alibi, claiming she had never left for Jiangling. He also shrewdly advised her to replace her lost earring to avoid suspicion. Despite his assistance, Xu Huijie reaffirmed her sole love for Jin Zhiming.
At the hospital, Song Xiuhua, though only lightly injured, regained consciousness. Seeing an earring by her bedside, she recalled the recent events and concluded that Xu Huijie was responsible for the car crash. When she confronted Xu Huijie, the latter vehemently denied any involvement and produced a complete, matching pair of earrings she had already prepared. Jin Zhiming and Dong Lijun, who had initially been shocked by Song Xiuhua's accusations, were convinced by Xu Huijie's denial.
Moments later, the doctor delivered the devastating news: Jin Zhida had succumbed to his severe injuries. Song Xiuhua collapsed in heart-wrenching sobs, while Dong Lijun was overcome with grief. Overwhelmed by her son's death, Dong Lijun also fell ill. Jin Zhiming, consumed with caring for his mother, instructed Xu Huijie to return home and look after Jin Yi Bei. It was then that Xu Huijie realized she hadn't seen her daughter since she left.
Remembering Song Xiuhua's earlier words about retribution, Xu Huijie frantically rushed home, only to find Jin Yi Bei was indeed gone. After a desperate search, she found Ding Wei, who revealed he had seen Jin Yi Bei sneak into her car the night she departed for Jiangling. Xu Huijie then found Jin Yi Bei's amulet in her car, confirming her daughter had been lost at the accident scene.
Ding Wei, however, sternly warned Xu Huijie not to reveal that Jin Yi Bei had gone missing from her car, as it would inextricably link her to Jin Zhida's death. Meanwhile, Jin Yi Bei, suffering from amnesia, awoke in the arms of a compassionate woman with her own daughter and substantial debts. Mistaking the woman for her mother, Jin Yi Bei clung to her.
Though the woman initially considered taking Jin Yi Bei to an orphanage due to her financial burdens, Jin Yi Bei's tearful pleas and constant calls of "Mom" prevented the orphanage staff from accepting her, as they believed the woman was attempting to abandon the child. The woman eventually brought Jin Yi Bei back to her new wonton shop, which she had acquired by selling her car.
Touched by Jin Yi Bei's diligent and helpful nature, the woman decided to adopt her, giving her the new name Zhang Guoguo. Upon learning of Song Xiuhua and Jin Zhida's tragedy, Li Yunkai's father canceled his planned visit to Golden Thread Embroidery. Li Yunkai then heard the heartbreaking news about his aunt's accident and Jin Yi Bei's disappearance.
Holding the amulet Jin Yi Bei had given him, he wept, a young boy grieving the loss of his mother and now his cherished friend. Discharged from the hospital, Song Xiuhua was consumed by sorrow over Jin Zhida's death, weeping incessantly. Xu Huijie, too, shed tears daily over Jin Yi Bei's disappearance. The two women, when they met, could only accuse each other.
Dong Lijun, unable to bear their constant bickering, intervened, sending Xu Huijie away with Jin Zhiming and expressing deep regret for ever holding the embroidery competition. The immense grief and her mother-in-law's unspoken reproaches made Song Xiuhua feel she could no longer remain at Golden Thread Embroidery. Despite Dong Lijun's pleas for her to reconsider, a heartbroken Song Xiuhua remained resolute in her decision to leave.
Before her departure, she found Li Yunkai and tearfully advised him to take good care of himself, leaving the young boy devastated as another loved one walked out of his life.
