Early in the morning, Xiang Nan woke up to prepare breakfast for Xia Yan, who felt embarrassed, believing she should be cooking for her host. To keep Xiang Nan company, Xia Yan arranged for Han Shuang and Zhao Xiaolei to visit. After Xia Yan left for work, Han Shuang arrived and met Ma Ke downstairs. They went up together, bringing food they planned to cook for Xiang Nan.
As Han Shuang struggled with cleaning a fish, Ma Ke stepped in to help, inadvertently left Huo Kai's medical report on the sofa. Xiang Nan saw the report, realized the severity of Huo Kai's condition, and was devastated. After she rushed off to find Huo Kai, Han Shuang and Ma Ke discovered her absence and found the report. Ma Ke then explained that Huo Kai was suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive nervous system disease.
Realizing Xiang Nan had rushed off to find Huo Kai, Han Shuang and Ma Ke quickly followed her. Meanwhile, Zhao Xiaolei and Lin Hao also arrived at Xiang Nan's place. Upon learning of Huo Kai's illness and Xiang Nan's disappearance, they informed Xia Yan. The group decided to split up to search for Xiang Nan and Huo Kai. Xu Chengyi also joined the search, receiving a list of Xiang Nan's usual hangouts from Xia Yan.
While looking, Xu Chengyi encountered Lin Hao, who wanted to talk. Lin Hao expressed relief that Xia Yan and Xu Chengyi were together, admitting he always felt he didn't deserve Xia Yan. However, Xu Chengyi firmly stated he would not forgive anyone who had hurt Xia Yan, regardless of their reasons. Lin Hao then spoke about Zhao Xiaolei, praising her kindness, comparing it to Xia Yan's, and noted how at ease he felt with her.
He conveyed his desire for everyone to accept their relationship, hoping to avoid driving a wedge between Zhao Xiaolei and her friends. Moved by Lin Hao’s sincerity, Xu Chengyi shook his hand in reconciliation. Unbeknownst to them, Lin Wei secretly photographed their handshake. Huo Kai had gone into hiding and left a message for Xiang Nan, expressing his deep affection for her. He explained that his previous departure was due to his illness.
Despite leaving, he found himself missing Xiang Nan even more, which led to his return. However, he now chose to leave again, not wanting to selfishly make Xiang Nan sad. He asked her not to look for him. Hearing this message, Xiang Nan was utterly heartbroken and cried out for Huo Kai. Elsewhere, Zhao Xiaolei found her brother, Zhao Xiaojun, eating dry bread.
He revealed he had lost his job again after only a few days and was rejected by several companies. Zhao Xiaojun praised Lin Hao's kindness and asked Zhao Xiaolei to put in a good word for him to get his old job back. However, Zhao Xiaolei confessed that she was considering taking a break from Lin Hao, a suggestion Zhao Xiaojun adamantly opposed, warning her not to be foolish.
Han Shuang received a call informing her that her mother, Han Mingzhu, had refused to accept a large order of furniture from their company. Enraged, Han Shuang confided in Ma Ke, who arrived to help. Han Shuang frantically called previous clients, but none were willing to purchase the furniture. Convinced her mother was retaliating, Han Shuang decided to confront her. At Han Mingzhu's office, Han Shuang burst into a meeting, demanding to speak.
Han Mingzhu dismissed her employees and accused Han Shuang of embarrassing her and throwing a tantrum. Han Shuang retorted that her mother was deliberately making things difficult for her furniture store. Han Mingzhu denied it, claiming they were just conducting business, but Han Shuang insisted her mother was seeking revenge on Ma Ke for the humiliation at the wedding.
Han Mingzhu admitted she had investigated the video that caused the wedding scandal, confirming it happened before Han Shuang and Ma Ke were together and wasn't Han Shuang's fault. She believed Ma Ke, by divorcing Han Shuang over it, deserved to pay. Han Shuang tried to explain, but Han Mingzhu remained fixated on making Ma Ke pay the price for his perceived betrayal.
Han Mingzhu then laid out her condition: if Han Shuang wanted the furniture store to be saved, she must never see or contact Ma Ke again. Han Shuang furiously told her mother not to impose her values, stating her right to choose her associations. Han Mingzhu threatened to ensure the furniture store went bankrupt and to tell everyone to avoid it if Han Shuang refused.
Han Shuang, heartbroken, accused her mother of manipulating her under the guise of "doing it for her own good" and declared she would never betray her friends for money or succumb to threats. After leaving her mother, Han Shuang recounted the encounter to Ma Ke. Ma Ke, feeling responsible, suggested he should leave Han Shuang, believing the divorce was his fault and that Han Mingzhu was right to target him.
Han Shuang urged him not to dwell on it, explaining that her mother’s domineering attitude made her realize how she herself had treated Zhao Xiaolei earlier, trying to force her to break up with Lin Hao for her "own good." She reflected on how she had previously viewed Zhao Xiaolei as a mere follower, never valuing her opinions, and realized that it was Zhao Xiaolei who had always been tolerant of her willfulness and selfishness.
To celebrate Zhao Xiaolei’s missed birthday, the friends decided to throw her a belated party. During dinner, Xiang Nan inquired about Han Shuang’s business troubles. Han Shuang confided that her mother might truly send her to jail if she couldn't raise the necessary funds. All her friends immediately offered to help. Xiang Nan then revealed that Ma Ke was also preparing to sell his family's plastic surgery clinic to help Han Shuang.
