The streets of the capital buzzed with excitement as fireworks illuminated the night sky. Among the crowds, Luo Fan purchased a beautiful hairpin for Ling Bi, but her attention was captivated by the dazzling display above. Meanwhile, Shen Yan confessed to Liu Ling the inherent dangers of his work, acknowledging his fear that he might not be able to protect her for a lifetime.

Despite this, he pledged that as long as she remained by his side, he would never abandon her. He asked her to wait for his return, promising to marry her. Deeply moved, Liu Ling affirmed her commitment to him, and their bond was reaffirmed. Later, they released flower lanterns by the river. They secretly placed notes bearing their wishes inside the lanterns. Liu Ling, unable to sleep that night, was consumed by curiosity about Shen Yan's wish.

The following day, accompanied by Ling Bi, she returned to the river and found Shen Yan's lantern. The note inside read, "Wish you good. I dare not wish you to get everything you want. I just hope you won't lose what you have now and live a carefree life." Liu Ling carefully treasured the heartfelt message. Upon Yang Ye's return with Mrs. Shen's itinerary, Liu Ling decided to create an opportunity to foster a good relationship with her.

Ling Bi expressed doubt, believing Mrs. Shen's known disdain for Liu Ling would lead to a difficult encounter. However, Liu Ling insisted on taking matters into her own hands, recognizing that Shen Yan's journey north to Xuanwu Town was to retrieve the box of Qian and Kun jade, hoping to earn the Crown Prince's favor and a decree for their marriage. Dressed meticulously, Liu Ling waited at Shuxiang Hall, a vegetarian restaurant, for Mrs. Shen.

Mrs. Shen, however, saw through Liu Ling's intentions immediately, bluntly stating that Liu Ling should not pursue Shen Yan as she already had a suitable daughter-in-law in mind for her son. Mrs. Shen's straightforwardness left Liu Ling embarrassed, especially when she revealed her preferred daughter-in-law was Princess Wuyou, Qin Ning, a name that struck fear into Liu Ling's heart. Determined to understand the situation, Liu Ling sought out Luo Fan, who reluctantly divulged the truth.

Qin Ning's mother and Mrs. Shen were close friends, leading Mrs. Shen to oversee Qin Ning's upbringing. Three years prior, Qin Ning had personally arranged her engagement to Shen Yan but then inexplicably vanished. Rumors circulated that Qin Ning had fallen in love with a martial artist and eloped. Fearing the Shen family's displeasure, Duke Zhennan's Mansion proactively annulled the engagement. Now that Qin Ning had returned to Yejing, Mrs. Shen's hopes for her to marry Shen Yan were rekindled.

Liu Ling desperately wanted to meet Qin Ning but could not find her. While resting at a tea stall with Ling Bi, Liu Ling noticed a veiled woman consulting a fortune teller. The woman became disheartened when the fortune teller predicted she would not find the person she sought. Liu Ling interjected, asserting that fate is not dictated by fortune-telling. Encouraged by Liu Ling's words, the woman joined her at a nearby restaurant.

Liu Ling offered to help her find her beloved "Red Lang", a skilled swordsman, and shared her own quest to find Qin Ning. The woman then revealed her true identity: she was Princess Wuyou, Qin Ning. Qin Ning decided to help Liu Ling and accompanied her to the Shen Mansion. Mrs. Shen greeted Qin Ning with immense warmth but ignored Liu Ling. To ease the awkwardness, Mr. Shen invited Liu Ling to join them for dinner.

During the meal, Qin Ning stated she was upset about Liu Ling's interference in her relationship with Shen Yan, implying her engagement was still valid, which greatly pleased Mrs. Shen. Qin Ning's performance made Liu Ling anxious, especially when Qin Ning suddenly feigned nausea and excused herself. Liu Ling, feigning concern, followed her outside. Once alone, Liu Ling confronted Qin Ning about her true intentions.

Qin Ning loudly declared she was pregnant with Shen Yan's child, stating her intention to make him marry her and be a "cheap dad." Mrs. Shen, having overheard Qin Ning's pronouncement, was enraged and unequivocally stated that Liu Ling had already been chosen as Shen Yan's wife. After Mrs. Shen left, Qin Ning confessed to Liu Ling that her dramatic declaration was merely an act.

Liu Ling worried that this deception would damage Mrs. Shen's relationship with Qin Ning, but Qin Ning explained that one cannot have everything and that some sacrifice was necessary to help Liu Ling secure her future with Shen Yan. Qin Ning then urged Liu Ling to be filial to Mrs. Shen in the future, a promise Liu Ling readily made. Qin Ning then departed, noting that she would reside at Liu Ling's mansion while continuing her search for her beloved.

Meanwhile, Shen Yan arrived in Xuanwu Town and located Chen A'san, a well-connected individual known as "Carrion Beetle," who had a history of trading unclaimed corpses. To draw out Lu He, Shen Yan instructed Chen A'san to auction a fake box of Qian and Kun jade in the black market, offering him the proceeds if it sold for one hundred taels. Xu Shijin and Ghost Face arrived in Xuanwu Town and joined Shen Yan.

As they observed Chen A'san auctioning a small copper cauldron, representing the fake jade, Hu Xiao and his men suddenly appeared, disrupting the crowd. Hu Xiao seized the fake box, unaware that Chen A'san had earlier swapped the real box with Lu He. Shen Yan spotted Lu He's figure and pursued him, with Xu Shijin and Ghost Face close behind. Lu He entered a mountain cave and activated a mechanism, sealing the stone door behind him.

Shen Yan, Xu Shijin, and Ghost Face managed to enter the cave just before it fully closed. Inside, Shen Yan blocked Lu He's escape route. He then falsely claimed that the jade had been given to him by Yun Yi before his death and that Yun Yi had specifically instructed him to find his master, Lu He, in Xuanwu Town to retrieve the box and avenge his death, implying that the box contained evidence related to the Jiangzhou case. Despite Lu He's initial skepticism, Shen Yan's convincing fabrication led Lu He to reluctantly agree to take them deeper into the cave.
