Lu Xiaolu took Bai Lan, Li Guangnan took Qin Juan, and Chang Jiao took Niu Xiaoying. The six of them celebrated the New Year together, and everyone cared about each other's New Year wishes. Li Guangnan was happy that he had successfully pursued Qin Juan, and his New Year's wish also became to work hard to make money. Niu Xiaoying was concerned that she was twenty years old and had not yet been in a relationship.

Lu Xiaolu and Li Guangnan started to cover for Chang Jiao, saying he might have gone somewhere to slack off and that if they found him, they would call him back. Hearing this, the two people left. Li Guangnan and Lu Xiaolu turned back and released Chang Jiao, asking him why he was reading a high school chemistry book. Chang Jiao said that the factory's efficiency wasn't good and he wanted to take the adult college entrance exam.

Li Guangnan didn't approve of this, but Lu Xiaolu thought it was a good thing. Lu Xiaolu's mother asked Bai Lan to go out for dinner. After only a few sentences, she started talking about Lu Xiaolu going to Shanghai. He also went out for Western food with Bai Lan and his classmates, but Lu Xiaolu couldn't fit in. He had to find an excuse to leave. Bai Lan noticed and also left with him.
