Xing Kelei was surprised to learn that Mi Ka had moved. He quickly asked Ruan Qingxia what had happened. Ruan Qingxia then told him that Mi Ka had lent her money to a patient’s family and didn’t want to borrow money from others, so helping her now meant helping her find a suitable apartment.
After saying that, Ruan Qingxia was about to leave and asked Xing Kelei to pass a message to Shu Wenbo—that last time was her fault and it won’t happen again. Xing Kelei agreed and added that if it didn’t work out, they could find someone else. But Ruan Qingxia said she had her heart set on that wooden block of a man.
Chen Tao saw that Mi Ka hadn’t rented a new place yet and mentioned that a friend of his had a room for rent. He took Mi Ka to see it, and she was very satisfied with the apartment—it was affordable and met her needs. However, Chen Tao said the landlord would only rent out the upstairs bedroom and that the study was off-limits. Mi Ka would also need to clean the entire unit herself.
Mi Ka readily agreed but asked if she needed to meet the landlord to sign a contract. Chen Tao hurriedly said there was no need—Mi Ka could just transfer the monthly rent to him, and he would pass it on to the landlord. Xing Keyao arranged to meet with Shao Yuhan and showed him the material for her company’s new product line—a neurosurgical preoperative planning system.
It could help doctors choose the best surgical tools and optimal entry routes, and even simulate surgeries. She hoped to find a group of respected neurosurgeons to be the first to use it and wanted Shao Yuhan to consider it. Shao Yuhan agreed to look into it but couldn’t promise they’d use the product. Xing Keyao said she understood and that she just hoped he would treat the matter professionally. She had confidence in the product.
After finishing the business talk, things got a little awkward, and Shao Yuhan excused himself, saying he had something else to do. Yanshan made cookies again for Shao Yuhan and brought them to him. After the morning rounds, Shao Yuhan called her into his office and asked how much time she spent writing medical records yesterday, whether she had scheduled time to study for the upcoming evaluation, and how long it took her to make the cookies.
Then he called in Dr. Jia Li, who happened to be passing by, and asked him to distribute the cookies to their colleagues. He told Yanshan to focus her attention where it was needed and to stop doing things like this. Yanshan was very disappointed but could only say she would do her best. What Mi Ka didn’t know was that the landlord of her new place was actually Xing Kelei.
Xing Kelei had been keeping track of Mi Ka’s situation through Chen Tao. Whenever Mi Ka needed something, Xing Kelei would immediately make up for it. This made Mi Ka very uneasy—she even thought she was being stalked. She quickly called Ruan Qingxia and told her about it. Ruan Qingxia also felt something was off and suspected the landlord had been peeping on Mi Ka. Both of them were frightened.
Ruan Qingxia guessed that maybe Chen Tao liked Mi Ka and was doing all of this to pursue her. Mi Ka didn’t believe it and planned to talk to Chen Tao about it the next day. The next morning, Chen Tao brought her breakfast again. Remembering what Ruan Qingxia had said, Mi Ka asked Chen Tao if he had feelings for her and said she wouldn’t be getting into a relationship for the next few years.
Chen Tao then told this to Xing Kelei, who felt a bit helpless. After observing for a day, Mi Ka concluded that Chen Tao probably didn’t like her, but she still felt something was off about the apartment. She hoped Ruan Qingxia could stay with her for a few days. Ruan Qingxia, however, saw it as a great chance to get close to Shu Wenbo and said she might have a big case, then called Shu Wenbo over.
Shu Wenbo, a bit worried, went to Mi Ka’s place. When he heard Ruan Qingxia say the landlord was a creep, he found it odd and told them it was actually Xing Kelei’s apartment. Mi Ka pretended there was a power outage and messaged Chen Tao. Chen Tao then told Xing Kelei, who rushed over to fix the electric meter and was caught red-handed by Mi Ka.
But Xing Kelei had already coordinated with Chen Tao and insisted he had no idea it was Mi Ka who had rented the place—just that the apartment was vacant, and he rented it out. Mi Ka wasn’t entirely convinced. Ruan Qingxia thought Xing Kelei must like Mi Ka, but Mi Ka didn’t want to assume too much. Shao Yuhan recently had an upcoming surgery. When Mi Ka heard about it, she wanted to observe. Shao Yuhan agreed.
Yanshan was displeased when she found out—she felt it was inappropriate for Mi Ka to watch since she was no longer in the neurosurgery department. But Shao Yuhan said doctors weren’t divided like that, and anyone who wanted to observe could come. He added that Mi Ka was just temporarily assigned to the ER and hadn’t left neurosurgery for good.
