Su Zaizai, a vibrant young girl, was on the cusp of a significant new chapter: high school. Though a bit nervous, she was also filled with anticipation. She couldn't have foreseen that romance would sprout unexpectedly, all beginning with a chance encounter. One rainy day, while at a supermarket, the sky opened up. Su Zaizai took shelter under the store's eaves and noticed a tall boy walking unhurriedly through the downpour.
She muttered to herself, wondering why he wasn't running and calling him an "idiot." The boy, after buying two bottles of Coca-Cola, paused briefly before nonchalantly walking back into the rain. Su Zaizai's gaze lingered on him, and his tall, handsome figure instantly captivated her. On the first day of school, Su Zaizai and her best friend, Jiang Jia, were running late.
In their haste, Su Zaizai dropped her wallet, which was fortuitously picked up by Zhang Lurang, who was also late. Noticing her school uniform, he decided to take the wallet to the school's broadcast studio. Meanwhile, Su Zaizai and Jiang Jia were stopped at the gate by a senior student. As the senior took their names, Gu Ran tried to slip past but was also caught.
Reluctant to give his own name, he remained silent as the senior misidentified him as "Zhang Lurang" from a book he was holding. Gu Ran let the mistake stand. The mix-up was compounded when the real Zhang Lurang, also arriving late, learned that his name had already been taken. In retaliation, he registered under Gu Ran's name, solidifying the identity swap.
Jiang Jia, having spent the previous night on the school's online forum, had learned that Zhang Lurang and Gu Ran were celebrated freshmen. Unaware of the mix-up, she believed the boy at the gate (Gu Ran) was the real Zhang Lurang. Later, when Su Zaizai realized her wallet was missing, it had already been turned in to the broadcast studio by Zhang Lurang.
The staff found a student ID inside with the eccentric name "Audrey Hepburn of the School" and broadcast it, to Su Zaizai's acute embarrassment. She and Jiang Jia rushed to the studio, where they learned two boys, "Zhang Lurang" and "Gu Ran," had returned it. As Jiang Jia called out to the pair leaving downstairs, Su Zaizai’s eyes fell upon the boy from the rainy day.
Her heart pounded as she crouched down, now convinced that her crush's name was Gu Ran. Before classes began, students departed for a week of military training. When the bus for Class 9 was found to be overcrowded, the teacher asked for volunteers to move to the half-empty bus for Class 1. Knowing that the famed freshmen were in Class 1, Su Zaizai immediately volunteered, dragging Jiang Jia with her.
On the Class 1 bus, Su Zaizai was delighted to see the boy she believed to be Gu Ran (who was actually Zhang Lurang). He even helped her place her luggage on the overhead rack. This small gesture filled her with joy, and she told Jiang Jia it was the perfect chance to thank "Gu Ran" for her wallet. Later, Su Zaizai confidently pointed toward her crush when Jiang Jia asked where the famous boys were.
However, Jiang Jia couldn't confirm the identity, as she could only see the back of his head. The military training instructor, Mr. Fang, proved to be incredibly strict, demanding all students surrender snacks and electronics. Jiang Jia’s attempt to hide snacks failed, and she was punished with fifty frog jumps. Gu Ran, caught laughing at her predicament, was ordered to join her. As they exercised, Jiang Jia confronted him about falsely claiming to be from Class 9, which he denied.
When the instructor announced that the last person to finish would have to clean the grounds, Gu Ran quickly completed his jumps and vanished, leaving Jiang Jia to struggle alone. She fumed, calling him a "liar." Seeing Jiang Jia’s leg cramps, Su Zaizai went to the infirmary for medicine. Finding it empty and cool, she decided to rest for a moment. Suddenly, Zhang Lurang entered, claiming he had a unique constitution and needed air conditioning for his "heatstroke."
Mistaking him for a teacher, Su Zaizai tried to turn the AC off, leading to an awkward exchange before she realized he was a fellow student. Witnessing her behavior, Zhang Lurang muttered to himself that she seemed "seriously ill." Later, Su Zaizai recorded a video diary, expressing gratitude that losing her wallet led her to re-encounter the boy from the rain and learn his name: Gu Ran. Completely smitten and influenced by school gossip that praised Gu Ran as superior, she looked forward to the days to come, entirely unaware of the ongoing identity mix-up.
