> Bright Eyes in the Dark Recap
Lin Luxiao contacted Milan to inform her that Yu Qilei had sacrificed his life. Upon hearing the news, Milan was overcome with grief as she faced her young daughter, Miaomiao, who did not understand what had happened. Meanwhile, Liu Ruyi discovered Yu Qilei's farewell letter that had been accidentally washed in the laundry.
In the letter, Yu Qilei expressed deep regret for constantly letting Milan and Miaomiao down by not spending enough time with them and for repeatedly postponing his promise to return to work. He affirmed his love for his current job but stated that he had decided, after completing this mission, he would talk to his superior and return home permanently to be with his family.
After reading Yu Qilei's letter, Liu Ruyi then emotionally questioned who he would give his own farewell letter to now that Yu was gone, saying he missed him and still had a pen he wanted to give him. The teammates at the special division unit were deeply saddened by the loss of their comrade, Yu Qilei, and fondly remembered him. Lin Luxiao recalled playing a wooden block game with Yu countless times but never winning.
Lou Mingye found Lin Luxiao, who was focused on the wooden blocks. Lin Luxiao explained that Yu had sacrificed himself to save Chen Yilong, stating that if Yu had chosen to save himself, Chen Yilong would surely have died, but saving Chen Yilong left Yu with only one option.
Lin Luxiao believed Yu knew he had to sacrifice himself in that moment, emphasizing that Yu had never made a mistake in demolishing work over the years, always focusing on saving lives. As they spoke, Yu Qilei's parents, along with Milan and Miaomiao, arrived at the special division unit. Facing Miaomiao's innocent questions about what happened to her dad and what "sacrifice" means, Lin Luxiao struggled to explain that her beloved father was gone.
Milan packed Yu Qilei's few belongings and then requested that Lin Luxiao take her to see the place where Yu Qilei had sacrificed his life. Upon learning of Yu Qilei's sacrifice, Nan Chu insisted on going to pay her respects, not only because he was Lin Luxiao's best friend but also because he had been her coach.
Shen Guangzong advised Nan Chu against going, informing her that media attention was focused on her whereabouts and that reporters were already gathering, knowing Yu Qilei was Lin Luxiao's colleague. However, Nan Chu was resolute, stating that Yu Qilei was her friend too and she had to go, pushing past Shen Guangzong despite his attempts to calm her. Nan Chu then called Lin Luxiao and, learning he was taking Milan to the accident site, stated she would join them there.
Lin Luxiao accompanied Milan, Miaomiao, and Yu Qilei's parents to the accident site. They were joined by many firefighters and numerous people who had been rescued in the past, all gathered to commemorate Yu Qilei by lighting candles and placing flowers. Milan suggested that Miaomiao read the essay she had written about her father. Miaomiao read her heartfelt words, describing her firefighter dad who worked far away and rarely came home, sometimes missing holidays like Children's Day.
She recounted his forgotten promise of a princess dress and how she used to be angry about his broken promises, but wasn't anymore, as long as he could just come back. She read that even though he was a hero, he wasn't just her hero. During the memorial, flashbacks showed Yu Qilei's past interactions, including one where he invited an engineer who had offered assistance at a dangerous scene to consider becoming his comrade.
When Nan Chu and Jiang Ge arrived, they immediately attracted the attention of the media, with cameras flashing. People attempted to block the reporters. Lin Luxiao told Jiang Ge to take Nan Chu away, explaining that the media would not leave otherwise. Nan Chu apologized to Lin Luxiao, saying she just wanted to visit, and Lin Luxiao told her he understood.
Lou Mingye then suggested everyone return to the station, as it was getting late and they needed to prepare for Yu's funeral arrangements the following day. After leaving the memorial site, Lou Mingye made arrangements for Milan and Yu's family to rest at the dorms. Lin Luxiao was unexpectedly informed that Lei Dagang had assaulted Chen Yilong. He immediately went to investigate.
Lei Dagang and Chen Yilong ended up at the police station due to the altercation, with Chen Yilong going to the hospital for a check-up. Lin Luxiao spoke with Lei Dagang privately in a small meeting room. Dagang expressed his inability to cope with the thought that Yu Qilei had died in vain.
He was particularly enraged when he heard Chen Yilong make callous remarks about Yu's death at the hospital, which, fueled by alcohol, led him to physically assault Chen Yilong. Lin Luxiao urged Dagang not to blame himself for Yu's sacrifice, emphasizing that it was not his fault and that the law would deal with Chen Yilong, advising Dagang against taking matters into his own hands.
Lei Dagang acknowledged that his actions would likely result in a criminal record but pleaded with Lin Luxiao to intercede with the brigade, stating that he did not want to leave the special division unit. Lin Luxiao promised to try and find a solution. Lin Luxiao then spoke with Sun Mingyang about how such cases are typically resolved, learning it depends on the victim's injuries and willingness to accept compensation; otherwise, detention is possible.
Lin Luxiao requested more time to try and resolve the situation. Lin Luxiao, Lou Mingye, and Liu Ruyi went to the hospital to speak with Chen Yilong, hoping he would agree to a settlement for Dagang. They reminded Chen Yilong that he and Dagang were childhood friends who had supported each other and offered financial compensation. Chen Yilong dismissed the offer of compensation, claiming they owed each other nothing.
He then callously questioned what Yu's death had to do with him, insisting he didn't want the building to collapse either. He stated that the matter would not be easily resolved and became aggressive, challenging Lin Luxiao to hit him and threatening extortion if he didn't. Finally, Chen Yilong revealed that he didn't care about money but needed help with his collapsed house issue, assuming Lin Luxiao could leverage his connections.
He even suggested offering money to Yu Qilei's wife and daughter. Lin Luxiao stated that they could not discuss anything further with Chen Yilong's attitude. Just then, police officers arrived to take Chen Yilong away for questioning in connection with the major accident liability case. Chen Yilong called out to Lin Luxiao for help, claiming that if he couldn't resolve his own issues, Dagang would also face consequences.
Liu Ruyi expressed surprise that Chen Yilong was being taken away by the police, wondering if he had agreed to a settlement. Later, Lin Luxiao seemed dejected, feeling he couldn't help Lei Dagang. Nan Chu called and apologized for the commotion the media caused at the memorial. Lin Luxiao reassured her not to blame herself, saying it wasn't her fault and she had good intentions.
Nan Chu expressed her regret at not being able to be physically present to comfort him due to reporters surrounding her and her company's restrictions on leaving. She offered to talk on the phone if he was feeling sad. Lin Luxiao told her he was fine and at the station, urging her not to worry and to take good care of herself. Nan Chu reciprocated the sentiment before they said goodnight.
Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan were visibly angered by online content, particularly posts by Ran Dongyang, which they felt were using Yu Qilei's sacrifice to gain popularity and disrespecting firefighters. They complained about the content, noting that it didn't mention specifics, preventing them from reporting it, and lamented that people like Ran Dongyang, whom they had saved from a fire in a food factory, were exploiting the tragedy.
Lou Mingye and Lin Luxiao arrived and dismissed the online noise, telling the team to focus on their work and training and to stop looking at such online content. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan voiced their concern about Lei Dagang's situation, asking if he would be able to return. Lou Mingye instructed them to go to training.
Qi Huo was then asked if he could help with Lei Dagang's situation, perhaps by asking his father, but Qi Huo confirmed that he had already sought help regarding Dagang's matter, but nothing could be done. The scene concluded with a public service announcement about fire safety tips for electric bikes, emphasizing precautions such as not charging them inside buildings, keeping them away from flammable materials, avoiding modifications, and conducting self-inspections to prevent accidents.
