Fearing Sun Meng's parents might trouble Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan, Lin Luxiao instructed them to return to their dormitory. Yang Zhengang attempted to calm the parents, but they were incensed that the firefighters' video mentioned their daughter's depression, which they equated to mental illness. They demanded the fire station restore their daughter's reputation. Lin Luxiao assured them the video had been deleted immediately and hoped for a peaceful resolution.

Unwilling to let their superiors take the blame, Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan came forward. Shao Yijiu presented his phone, showing that Sun Meng herself had posted her depression diagnosis online, but her parents refused to look and grew more agitated. When Nan Chu arrived, she defended Sun Meng and criticized the parents for their lack of understanding.

This further angered the parents, who emotionally questioned why strangers were judging them after they had worked so hard to raise their daughter. Seeing the conflict escalating, Lin Luxiao sent Shao Yijiu, Nan Chu, and the others away. He promised Sun Meng's parents he would handle the matter seriously, and they demanded a public apology from the station. Lin Luxiao later posted a video online, formally apologizing to the parents for the inappropriate remarks made by the firefighters.

Nan Chu was disheartened by the confrontation, empathizing deeply with Sun Meng's plight. Xi Gu, seeing her distress, sensed that Nan Chu must have had similar difficult experiences in her own past. Captain Meng arrived and reprimanded Lin Luxiao and Yang Zhengang for being overly protective of their recruits. Lin Luxiao accepted primary responsibility but also expressed frustration that pressuring grassroots units for every issue would make future work difficult.

Captain Meng, while acknowledging their feelings, insisted the matter be treated seriously and ordered Lin to submit a report. He also specifically suggested that Shao Yijiu might not be suited for firefighting and cautioned Lin Luxiao against being lenient. Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan received a formal warning for filming and posting the video, which caused public controversy. Shao Yijiu felt the punishment was unjust, believing he had spoken the truth.

Qin Shiquan blamed himself for suggesting the video and began to question if he was suited for the job, as it was not what he had imagined. When the two didn't return to the dormitory and couldn't be reached, Liu Ruyi found them on the rooftop via surveillance cameras. Fearing Lin Luxiao would scold them in anger, Yang Zhengang intercepted them, feigning sternness to pull them aside for a talk.

He explained that their actions, regardless of their intentions, were wrong because they targeted the public and caused their captain to be criticized. He stressed the importance of respecting the deceased and not causing secondary harm to their families. Yang Zhengang then sent them to the station's honor room to reflect on their mistakes.

There, a photo of their school from an earthquake rescue reminded them of why they became firefighters, and they understood Yang's intent, resolving to recommit to their original aspirations. Later, Lin Luxiao took Shao Yijiu and Qin Shiquan on a rescue call where a boy's mother had lost her ring down a drain. Learning the boy's father had passed away, the two recruits insisted on helping.

They successfully retrieved the ring with a flexible inspection camera without damaging the sink, earning a thank-you drawing from the boy. Back at the station, Lin Luxiao used the opportunity to explain the origin of the Special Division's "Nine Rules" in the honor room, noting they were a mix of serious lessons and inside jokes that became binding agreements. He clarified that deleting the video was mandatory, as all public announcements must come from the brigade headquarters.

Lin Luxiao learned Shao Yijiu's guilt over failing to give Sun Meng hope was his motive for posting the video. Lin warned them against this mindset, explaining that while saving lives is exhilarating, becoming addicted to that feeling can lead to reckless personal heroism. He emphasized that firefighting requires effective teamwork and the ability to accept failure as well as success, urging them to grow and learn together.

Separately, Jiang Ge, dissatisfied with the music for a program, discovered a piece by Lin Qi. He sent his assistant to negotiate a collaboration. While Lin Qi's agent eagerly agreed, Lin Qi himself flatly refused. Meanwhile, Yang Zhengang mended his own clothes, revealing a bruise from a recent mission and reminding Lin Luxiao to prioritize his own safety. Later, Lei Dagang called Lin Luxiao, inviting him to a friend's birthday dinner as a pretext for a night out. Lin Luxiao declined the invitation for himself but granted Lei Dagang leave for the night.
