Following Shen Zhengyi's suspension from on-ice training, Zhu Lele found Qu Zhi acting suspiciously and confronted him. He admitted that Shao Beisheng had tasked him with monitoring Coach Zhuang, enabling Shao Beisheng to steal the ice rink keys to help Shen Zhengyi train. Shao Beisheng successfully found the keys in Coach Ma's office, but was discovered by Xiao Qing as he was leaving. He pleaded with her to keep his secret.
However, Coach Zhuang noticed Qu Zhi and Zhu Lele's secretive behavior and questioned them. After they confessed, she gathered everyone involved—Shao Beisheng, Shen Zhengyi, Xiao Qing, Qu Zhi, and Zhu Lele—and reprimanded them for their lack of discipline, assigning each a 6,000-word self-criticism essay. Shen Zhengyi apologized for getting everyone in trouble, but Xiao Qing was unbothered, remarking that she found the new experience of writing such an essay interesting.
Later, Coach Zhuang privately confronted her son, Shao Beisheng, about the incident. He retorted sharply, questioning her suitability as a mother and accusing her of being absent when he needed her most. Meanwhile, Xiao Han tried to reconcile with his sister, Xiao Qing, acknowledging her improved skating with Shao Beisheng but warning her against his schemes. Xiao Qing defended Shao Beisheng's actions to help Shen Zhengyi, whom she admired for her persistence, and decided to request to be her roommate.
Afterward, Xiao Qing gave Shen Zhengyi a completed self-criticism essay she had written for her. Shen Zhengyi submitted her own essay to Coach Zhuang, begging for a chance to train on the ice. Coach Zhuang refused, stating that Shen Zhengyi's singular focus on speed made her a danger to herself and others. Frustrated by the broken promise, Shen Zhengyi tried to dissolve her agreement with Shao Beisheng, but he vowed to get her on the ice within two days.
To do so, he approached Coach Ma for extra ice time. When Coach Ma refused, citing regulations, Shao Beisheng subtly blackmailed him by alluding to a celebrity autograph he had found in the coach's drawer. Pressured, Coach Ma granted them two hours. At the rink, Shao Beisheng taught Shen Zhengyi how to handle turns by letting her use his momentum, and she quickly improved.
Their session was cut short when Coach Zhuang stormed in, furious that Shen Zhengyi had defied her. Shao Beisheng took the blame, but Shen Zhengyi insisted it was her idea. He then accused Coach Zhuang of being an unfair and unqualified coach. Afterward, a disheartened Shen Zhengyi felt guilty for getting Shao Beisheng scolded. She admitted that Coach Zhuang was right about her "wild style" being a liability. When Shao Beisheng asked why she hadn't started professional training earlier, she confessed that her mother, a former short-track speed skater who retired from a severe injury, adamantly forbade her from the sport. Later, Xiao Qing officially moved in with Shen Zhengyi and Zhu Lele.
While Shen Zhengyi was collecting her laundry, a group of girls cornered her, stepping on her clean clothes and mocking her as Shao Beisheng's burdensome "maidservant." Xiao Qing intervened, stepping on the bullies' laundry and declaring herself Shao Beisheng's new figure skating partner, which made them retreat. As further punishment, Coach Zhuang assigned Shen Zhengyi to assist with the junior class. She struggled to teach the children, who mocked her for being a worse skater than "Brother Beisheng."
When Shao Beisheng visited, the kids pointed Shen Zhengyi out, accusing her of cheating to beat him in their past race. Shao Beisheng defended her, and when the children asked if she was his girlfriend, he playfully confirmed it, to her flustered denial. Shen Zhengyi later confided in Xiao Qing about her anxiety over the upcoming tryouts, recognizing she needed to improve on her own and expressing her gratitude for Xiao Han's past help in getting her on the team.
To help her, Shao Beisheng took her to watch a curling match, using it as an analogy for speed skating strategy. He explained that observation, planning, and positioning were more important than raw speed. The lesson sparked a breakthrough for Shen Zhengyi, who realized she needed to observe the ice to know when to accelerate, dodge, or cut in, so she would no longer be a "dangerous factor."
