Synopsis
During the turbulent years of the Ming Dynasty's end, Chu Zijing, the leader of the Jinyiwei (Brocade-clad Guards), was dispatched to the remote frontier city of Ningyuan to investigate the truth behind the widespread epidemic of the Shanghan disease. Disturbing rumors of "demons causing trouble" and "patients being eaten by monsters" were rampant, yet local officials insisted that it was just a common occurrence of Shanghan with nothing unusual.
From Ningyuan City to Ninghai Fortress, and then to the isolated island of Wumu, Chu Zijing clashed with various forces, including officer Boyan and the foreign ship captain An Jie Li Ka, as the investigation delved deeper. His situation became increasingly perilous. The mysterious forces beneath the eerie imagery and the blatant cover-ups in everyone's statements seemed to suggest a hidden secret on Wumu Island.
The vibrant island, expected to thrive with life, appeared as a desolate polar landscape. The villagers, who traditionally relied on the sea for sustenance, were now forbidden from eating fish. The icy terrain on the island concealed the villagers' ailments, providing a hiding place for the "monsters" and the forces behind them. Amid numerous obstacles, how will Chu Zijing and his team overcome difficulties and approach the truth?
