Wei Daiqing was single-mindedly focused on achieving merits and getting promoted. He arrested Deng Mingyuan at Hua Zhen's house, and fearing there might be remaining members of the underground party, he investigated the situation of Hua Zhen's family members. The only suspicious point was Hua Zhen, who went to Shanghai three days after Deng Mingyuan was arrested and had not yet returned. This greatly piqued Wei Daiqing's interest.

He questioned Deng Mingyuan again about Hua Zhen, but Deng铭远 had previously investigated Wei Daiqing as well, knew Wei Daiqing's original name, and found a weakness in Wei Daiqing. Hua Zhen's Fourth Branch Bureau got a clue that someone saw a kidnapper near a hotel. Because of this, the team members were both excited and nervous; this was their first mission. Chen Hao assigned tasks to several team members, telling them to apprehend the suspect in plain clothes.

Originally, new police officers were not required to go out on duty, but this kidnapper was the person Hua Zhen desperately wanted to catch; he was the one who escaped by climbing over the hotel's exterior wall that day. Hua Zhen volunteered to go out on duty. This caused great dissatisfaction from Bai Shoujun, who called Hua Zhen overestimating his capabilities.

However, Hua Zhen immediately made a solemn pledge on the spot: if he couldn't catch that kidnapper this time, he would never go out on duty to perform missions again. Chen Hao was surprised by Hua Zhen's initiative to volunteer for duty. It seemed Hua Zhen was eager to investigate something. Luo Minmin was very nervous during her first time going out on duty due to lack of experience.

To find the best observation angle, Hua Zhen went to a coffee shop nearby. The prices there were high, but Luo Minmin still took out all the money in her pocket and bought a cup of coffee for Hua Zhen. Before he even picked up his chopsticks, he heard a commotion outside. Before he could figure out what was happening, he rushed out. This time, other team members had apprehended the wrong person. Seeing that the suspect was about to escape, Hua Zhen quickly chased after him. To apprehend the kidnapper, Hua Zhen rushed into the French Concession. Chinese police were not allowed to enter the French Concession, but Hua Zhen disregarded these rules.

After arresting the kidnapper, the French Concession police quickly came to demand an explanation. The person who came to reprimand Chen Hao was Shi Junyu, an Inspector from the Public Concession Police Department's Inspectorate. She demanded that Chen Hao release the kidnapper and arrest Hua Zhen to face charges. But Chen Hao immediately blocked her, claiming that the gate to the French Concession had not yet been repaired, and this transitional area did not yet belong to the French Concession.

After Chen Hao's reasoned argument, the other party finally made concessions. Chen Hao returned with Hua Zhen, a few team members, and the apprehended kidnapper. On the way back, he reprimanded Hua Zhen for acting rashly and asked him what his true purpose was for painstakingly coming to the Fourth Branch Bureau.
