Time came to 2005. At that time, Fei Ke's real name was Li Zerui, which was also his birth name. Li Zerui had excellent high school grades and was admitted early by Chengjiang University before the college entrance examination. He was a prominent figure in school and had been interviewed by television stations. He Shan's mother saw this and didn't think much of it, just telling He Shan to also aim for Chengjiang University.

He Shan gave one of the jerseys her father brought back from Munich to Li Zerui. Now, only half of their wish to be admitted to Chengjiang University had come true. They had no idea what would happen in the future, while Li Zerui had long wanted to get out of Huishan and leave that home. His stepmother's biological son, Li Zetian, had poor grades, and she actually wanted Li Zerui to take the exam for him.

Her reasons were grand and convincing, but she never considered Li Zerui's position or feelings. Initially, Li Zerui refused and returned the camera gift his stepmother had given him. He recalled his birth mother's passing years ago and how his stepmother prevented his father from driving her away. His mind was filled with complex thoughts, but the next day, he told his stepmother that he agreed to what she had proposed the previous night. Soon, the college entrance examination arrived.

Li Zerui met He Shan at the entrance of the school examination hall, but he lied, saying he was there to cheer for his younger brother. After deceiving He Shan, Li Zerui entered the examination hall. His admission ticket was printed in black and white, and identity verification relied entirely on the eyes of the examination invigilators.

Perhaps Li Zerui and Li Zetian looked quite similar, or perhaps the invigilators had seen too many admission tickets and were experiencing eye fatigue. In any case, Li Zerui successfully entered the examination hall with Li Zetian's admission ticket and completed all four exams. However, during the final Humanities comprehensive exam, Li Zerui remembered his stepmother's cold-heartedness and cruelty from back then and became extremely angry, directly blacking out the name and exam number.

Soon after, the exam results came out. He Shan's parents called their daughter to check her scores. He Shan did quite well; her score of 676 was certainly enough to get into Chengjiang University. As for Li Zetian, because Li Zerui had blacked out the name and exam number in the final Humanities comprehensive exam, his score was zero. Li Zetian was furious and immediately went to beat Li Zerui, but his father stopped him.

His stepmother quickly tried to intervene but was pushed away. When He Shan left the examination hall, her father took a photo of her with his camera. It was this photo that allowed He Shan to discover Li Zerui in the crowd not far behind her. People from the Huishan Education Committee came to He Shan's home to understand the situation. They suspected Li Zerui had taken the exam for someone else.

The unsuspecting He Shan said she had seen Li Zerui at the examination hall, not realizing that this would become crucial testimony exposing Li Zerui's cheating. That summer, the evidence of Li Zerui taking the exam for another person was conclusive, and his early admission qualification to Chengjiang University was canceled. Meanwhile, He Shan was admitted to the Journalism Department at Chengjiang University, but she felt no excitement.

Her father once asked Li Zerui why he agreed to take the exam for someone else, asking if he didn't care about his life anymore. Li Zerui said that his life was ruined the day his father had an affair. Later, Li Zerui went to Chengjiang, rented a room near Chengjiang University, and started working to support himself. In his free time, he would study to improve himself, never wasting time.

Because the person he lived with made fake certificates, Li Zerui began to come into contact with many different things. He learned that many people used fake student IDs to audit classes and take postgraduate entrance exams at Chengjiang University. He seemed to see an opportunity for himself. Li Zerui met Xu Ou by returning his wallet, which he had lost as the president of the Finance Society, laying the groundwork for later events. He also unexpectedly encountered He Shan while sneaking leftover food from customers at a steakhouse.
