Pondering Si Teng's detachment from human emotions, Qin Fang asked if she had ever loved someone. Si Teng dismissed the notion, comparing it to loving a tree, as their species were different. She found humans fragile, timid, foolish, and short-lived, making it inconceivable for her to fall for one. Qin Fang, realizing his own current state wasn't entirely human, began to grasp her perspective.

To help Si Teng integrate into modern society, he devised a plan to get her an ID card. He led her to a police station, spinning a tale that Si Teng was an unregistered person from the mountains who now sought an identity to pursue a normal life and a relationship with him. Though initially irked by his audacious claims, Si Teng grudgingly went along.

At the police station, a strict officer instructed Si Teng to remove her earrings, hairpin, and makeup before her ID photo was taken. Later, Cang Hong arrived to visit Si Teng, informing her that the Xuan Sect had found clues about a Kari, believed to be near Yunxi Village. Si Teng demanded concrete evidence and then pressed Cang Hong about the exact circumstances of her demise seventy years prior.

Cang Hong, though surprised, recounted how the three masters—Qiu Shan, Li Zhengyuan, and Huang Yu—had tracked Si Teng down using a seven-star stone disk and attacked her when she was vulnerable after childbirth. Qiu Shan had then attempted to incinerate her remains with lightning but, to his bewilderment, they could not be refined. Cang Hong recalled Si Teng vowing to return from amidst the flames. After Cang Hong's departure, a shocked Qin Fang questioned Si Teng about having a child.

Si Teng, in turn, expressed her own bewilderment as to why a woman would knowingly remain with a deceitful man and bear his child, concluding it was an act of foolishness, not love. Meanwhile, Shen Yindeng grew frustrated with the other Xuan Sect members' timidness and proposed a scheme to lure Si Teng to her ancestral home, Yunxi Village, to set a trap. Yan Furui, who was nearby trying to gather information, failed to overhear the details of their plot.

He later learned from Bai Jin and Wang Qiankun about a deep-seated enmity between Shen Yindeng's ancestors and Si Teng; Si Teng had allegedly killed Shen Yindeng's ancestor, Shen Cuiqiao, and placed a curse on the women of their family to die during childbirth. Later, Yan Furui tried to secretly photograph Shen Yindeng but was caught. Startled, he inadvertently implicated Qin Fang before Shen Yindeng deleted the photo and left.

At that moment, Qin Fang was relaying Cang Hong's information about Yunxi Village to a skeptical Si Teng. When Yan Furui arrived to speak with her, Qin Fang noticed Shen Yindeng and followed her, leaving Yan Furui to talk to Si Teng. Yan Furui cautiously warned Si Teng not to betray the Xuan Sect.

Angered by the implication, Si Teng's sharp reaction frightened Yan Furui into blurting out what he had heard about her killing Shen Cuiqiao and cursing the Shen family women. Si Teng flew into a rage, smashing a teapot and vehemently denying the use of such a petty method. However, upon reflection, she conceded that the "old" Si Teng might have been capable of such an act. Dismissing the bewildered Yan Furui, she stormed off to find Qin Fang.

Qin Fang had pursued Shen Yindeng, only for her to vanish and then reappear behind him. As he turned, her eyes flashed with a purple light, nearly putting him in a trance. Si Teng arrived just in time, reprimanding Shen Yindeng for her discourtesy. Arrogant and unrepentant, Shen Yindeng departed.

Yan Furui followed, attempting to mediate, but having misunderstood Si Teng's earlier outburst, he mistakenly told Shen Yindeng that Si Teng had admitted to the curse, which only hardened her resolve. Fuming at Qin Fang's private meeting with Shen Yindeng, Si Teng pressed him for an explanation. He revealed that Shen Yindeng looked and sounded exactly like his deceased first love, Chen Wan. Seeing that his relationship with An Man was over, Si Teng acknowledged that his reaction was understandable.

However, she continued to admonish him like a junior, which he found awkward. As he turned to leave, Si Teng observed his profile and was struck by his resemblance to a man from her past, calling out his name abruptly. Her curiosity piqued, Si Teng demanded Qin Fang investigate his great-grandfather, specifically requesting old letters to examine his handwriting. Bewildered, Qin Fang's questions were silenced by her intense glare.

That night, he had a nightmare that Si Teng and his great-grandfather had shared a romantic past. The next morning, he gave her photos from his family's old house. Examining them, Si Teng confirmed to herself that the man was not Shao Yankuan but kept this to herself. Instead, she teased Qin Fang, remarking that by seniority, he should address her as "Great-Grand-Aunt." Annoyed, Qin Fang turned and left.
