When Xu Hongdou returned to Youfeng Inn, she found villagers gathered at the door. She asked and learned they had come to see the “bride-to-be,” mistaking Damai for her. Damai found it amusing and didn’t bother to clarify, but Xie Zhiyao was helpless, feeling it was a misunderstanding that couldn’t be undone. Damai thought the rumor might as well come true—after all, both Xu Hongdou and Xie Zhiyao were single, meeting the hard criteria for marriage.

Plus, "married first, love later" was a popular theme with readers. But real life wasn’t a novel—both Xu Hongdou and Xie Zhiyao knew these were just rumors and laughed them off. The next morning, Xu Hongdou and Lin Na accompanied Damai to a scenic spot for a relaxing day. Meanwhile, Xie Zhiyao received a call from Huang Xinxin and rushed out. It turned out that the owner of a homestay in town had suddenly disappeared, owing two months' unpaid wages.

The workers surrounded Huang Xinxin demanding payment, causing a scene—fortunately, Xie Zhiyao arrived in time. Because the owner had invested over a million yuan into the homestay, Xie Zhiyao believed he wouldn’t just flee with the money. The singing reminded Xu Hongdou of her best friend Chen Nanxing and brought her to tears. Damai, in high spirits, got totally drunk and wouldn’t stop talking.
