Psych-Hunter Episode 13 Recap
> Psych-Hunter Recap
Jiang Shuo, Qin Yiheng, and Yuan Muqing found themselves on an isolated island. As they walked, Jiang Shuo pointed out a fish skeleton, surmising that the large, dangerous shadows they had seen in the water the previous night were likely creatures similar to it. Qin Yiheng assured Jiang Shuo that Liu Zhi was targeting all of them, not just Jiang Shuo, and while they might be prey, they also had the potential to be hunters.
Yuan Muqing added that no matter what dangers lay ahead, they would face them together. Soon, they spotted a mysterious building on the island. Inside, they found a long table, which Jiang Shuo felt a unsettling familiarity with, as if it had appeared in his dreams. Signs of previous occupancy, like expired chocolate, suggested someone had lived there. Qin Yiheng discovered large bloodstains on the floor, indicating a past homicide, but questioned the lack of any police investigation.
A wave of unsettling familiarity washed over Jiang Shuo, who then rushed to the second floor. He entered a room with his name displayed outside and, following what seemed like a memory, found an invitation and a bloody dagger in a drawer. Qin Yiheng, observing this, grew agitated.
He revealed that his own father had received an identical invitation and, seeing the bloodied dagger, questioned Jiang Shuo’s identity, even hinting that Jiang Shuo might have been involved in his father's death. Jiang Shuo, however, claimed to recall only vague impressions, like a dream. Yuan Muqing intervened, urging them not to quarrel, reminding them that they were caught in Liu Zhi’s trap and needed to search for clues together.
Qin Yiheng, leaving Jiang Shuo’s room, found another room with his name on the door. Below his name, his father Qin Yi’s name was inscribed. Inside, the room showed signs of a past fire, and he discovered his father's notebook. Jiang Shuo confided in Yuan Muqing, expressing a foreboding feeling about the dagger and fearing that everything was somehow connected to him.
They decided to head back to the boat at the dock, only to find it gone, presumably taken by Liu Zhi, who intended to trap them on the island. A gunshot then echoed through the air, prompting them to investigate, with Qin Yiheng also rushing to the scene. They found Ren Qiang pursuing Takeuchi, who was Feng Miao Xuan’s translator. Soon after, Feng Miao Xuan and a dancing girl named Yan Hong appeared.
It became clear that all of them had received invitations from Liu Zhi and had been brought to the island. With no way to leave, they agreed to return to the villa for safety. Jiang Shuo, Qin Yiheng, and Yuan Muqing suspected this was another trap set by Liu Zhi, whom they had been investigating. Once gathered in the villa, a disembodied voice belonging to Liu Zhi addressed them, welcoming them to his "evil entrapment" and labeling them as "sinners."
He declared that they were all sinners, but if any brave person could resolve the present sins, they would earn the sole chance to survive and leave the island safely. Their survival depended on their own fate. A red cloth then dramatically dropped from the ceiling, revealing a painting titled "Seven Circles of Hell." Jiang Shuo noticed a strange mask, but Qin Yiheng quickly snatched it.
Qin Yiheng, knowing Jiang Shuo possessed mind-reading abilities, voiced his suspicion that Jiang Shuo might be connected to Liu Zhi, making it impossible to uncover the true mastermind if Jiang Shuo was involved. Jiang Shuo, upset by the distrust, retreated to his room. Yuan Muqing followed to console him, her cheerful demeanor helping to lift his spirits. She suggested drastic measures like building a raft and burning the villa to create a signal for rescue.
She also speculated that Qin Yiheng’s recent behavior stemmed from his concern for his father. Jiang Shuo, however, still felt Qin Yiheng was acting strangely. Later, Jiang Shuo, still holding the invitation, heard a noise outside his door. Arming himself with the dagger, he opened the door to find Ren Qiang, who, fearing Jiang Shuo was trying to harm him, immediately attacked. Yuan Muqing appeared just in time to stop the altercation.
Jiang Shuo and Yuan Muqing noted that despite the loud commotion, no one else came out of their rooms, which they found suspicious. As Jiang Shuo and Yuan Muqing continued searching the villa, they heard a noise in the kitchen. They saw a shadowy figure wearing a mask escaping through a window. Jiang Shuo pursued the figure, instructing Yuan Muqing to alert the others. However, upon his return, Jiang Shuo discovered Yuan Muqing lying unconscious in Ren Qiang’s room.
Hidden within Ren Qiang’s room, Jiang Shuo found Ren Qiang’s lifeless body. Jiang Shuo initially didn't want the others to discover the body, but Qin Yiheng quickly discovered the corpse. Qin Yiheng then openly accused Jiang Shuo of being the murderer, suggesting his amnesia was a pretense and that his attempt to hide the body was proof of his guilt.
To defend himself, Jiang Shuo led everyone to the living room and explained the "Seven Circles of Hell" painting, detailing the seven sins: deception/lies, theft, greed, lust, familial sin, wrongful death, and murder. Each sin corresponded to a specific hell: Mountain of Knives, Rockfall, Poisonous Snakes, Scissors, Blood Pool, Oil Pot, and Avīci Hell. Jiang Shuo posited three theories.
First, he claimed the killer was the villa’s owner, who intended for them to die one by one according to the sins. He initially linked Ren Qiang’s death in cement (associated with earth) to the Hell of Rockfall. While the police had sought Ren Qiang for theft, Qin Yiheng interjected, explaining that Ren Qiang had falsely confessed, making his true sin "deception/lies," which aligned with the Mountain of Knives Hell.
Jiang Shuo concluded that the villa owner (potentially Liu Zhi) had murdered Ren Qiang and framed him to incite infighting among them. Second, Jiang Shuo turned his accusation to Takeuchi, suggesting Takeuchi killed Ren Qiang, hid the body in Jiang Shuo’s room, and then knocked out Yuan Muqing when she stumbled upon him. Takeuchi vehemently denied this. Jiang Shuo’s third theory was that anyone present could be the murderer, meaning no one was safe.
Qin Yiheng dismissed Jiang Shuo’s theories, revealing his own evidence. He presented an old photograph of people who had visited the island before, including his father. He disclosed that Jiang Shuo had also been on the island a year prior, disappearing afterward before resurfacing in Changshan. Qin Yiheng then connected this to Liu Zhi, a renowned mind-reading master, and his apprentice, who possessed the same unique skill.
He pointed out that Jiang Shuo, despite his amnesia, still remembered his mind-reading abilities, strongly implying a connection to Liu Zhi and motive for murder. Others in the group sided with Qin Yiheng, arguing that Jiang Shuo was a dangerous presence. Yuan Muqing tried to defend Jiang Shuo, but he told her not to interfere, understanding that no explanation would sway them.
Qin Yiheng proposed isolating Jiang Shuo for the safety of everyone on the island, promising to hand him over to the police once they escaped. He further argued that if more incidents occurred while Jiang Shuo was confined, it would serve as proof of his innocence. With little choice, Jiang Shuo agreed to be confined, preventing Yuan Muqing from further protest.
