Shi Yue and Nan Qiao arrived at her home, both soaked from the rain. Nan Qiao told Shi Yue to change into dry clothes while she went to shower. When she returned, she found Shi Yue wearing her pajamas, which made her burst out laughing. That night, they slept together. The next morning, Nan Qiao quietly left the house before Shi Yue woke up. Unbeknownst to her, Shi Yue was only pretending to sleep and followed her discreetly.
Nan Qiao went to An Ning's house, where a subordinate led her to the backyard to meet An Ning. An Ning provocatively asked if Shi Yue liked Nan Qiao's straightforward attitude. Nan Qiao retorted that this was precisely the difference between them, remarking that she did not know much about stabbing people in the back. Nan Qiao declared that Shi Yue's past was a part of his life, and she accepted all of him.
Her concern, however, was their present and future, focusing on their mutual trust and what they could do for each other. An Ning warned that she might destroy them. Nan Qiao bravely accepted the challenge, stating that this was not the first time An Ning had such thoughts. She told An Ning that from now on, any issues should be directed at her, urging her to stop involving Shi Yue, before turning to leave.
As Nan Qiao walked away, An Ning observed that her determined gaze was very similar to Shi Yue's, musing that Nan Qiao must have used that quality to steal Shi Yue's heart. An Ning then instructed her subordinate to have Tai Ge keep a close watch on things, stating that she would handle Shi Yue and Nan Qiao's matter personally.
Nan Qiao returned home to find Shi Yue waiting outside, having woken up and gone to look for her when he couldn't find her. Nan Qiao made up an excuse, saying that Wen Di had called her with an urgent matter at the company and she didn't want to disturb his sleep. She then changed her door's password lock and registered Shi Yue's ring finger print.
Shi Yue questioned why she chose that finger, and Nan Qiao explained it was for a wedding ring. She confessed that she had never worn one but wished to, prompting Shi Yue to offer to give her one. Meanwhile, Hao Jie was helping Ouyang Qi at her pet shop, bathing a dog and fixing a leaky faucet. Ouyang Qi commented that he was bustling around the shop like a little bee.
Hao Jie explained that he was doing his best because the shop was "their home." He seized the opportunity to suggest they should be openly together, just as Shi Yue and Nan Qiao were. Ouyang Qi scoffed at the idea, calling him a "vile accomplice" and telling him to maintain at least a step's distance.
Hao Jie playfully persisted, even offering to be her "person" if she fed him dog food, but Ouyang Qi maintained her firm stance despite secretly being pleased by his efforts. At Future Up, Nan Qiao instructed Lao Qin and his team to line up at the company entrance for a special welcome. Wen Di, unaware of the reason, expressed a strange feeling about the unusual formality. Soon, Nan Qiao arrived, intimately embracing Shi Yue, much to the surprise of everyone.
The team members exclaimed that it was a sudden plot twist, like life imitating a movie. Wen Di pulled Shi Yue aside. Shi Yue told him that he understood Wen Di saw him as someone with a past record who had betrayed Nan Qiao and put Future Up in crisis. Shi Yue explained that he understood An Ning's cruel methods better than anyone, which was why he initially left Nan Qiao and Future Up to protect them.
He admitted he was wrong to think that danger would disappear, and now, Nan Qiao had given him the courage for them to face challenges together. When Wen Di reminded him that his initial intentions toward Nan Qiao weren't pure, Shi Yue sincerely admitted he had asked himself that question many times but affirmed that he truly loved Nan Qiao now. Afterwards, Nan Qiao's team members voiced their concerns, fearing An Ning might hurt Nan Qiao again.
Nan Qiao defended Shi Yue, saying that relationships were like starting a company, full of obstacles, and that she wasn't afraid of facing them as long as she didn't have to face them alone. Xiao An expressed confidence in Nan Qiao, believing that since their boss dared to bring Shi Yue back, he must be trustworthy. Later, Chang Jianxiong accompanied Shi Yue back to their old military academy, a place Shi Yue hadn't visited since his expulsion.
Chang Jianxiong mentioned finding their old pictures, causing Shi Yue to tease him for being sentimental. They recalled their past together, including a fight Shi Yue won that resulted in Chang Jianxiong washing his clothes for a week. Chang Jianxiong expressed regret about taking Shi Yue's dissertation, which led to his expulsion. Shi Yue, however, stated he never regretted leaving school to see his father one last time, adding that without those past events, he wouldn't have met Nan Qiao.
Chang Jianxiong noted that Shi Yue's sharp-witted personality was just like his old self, Shi Junqing. They then played basketball, sweating out their old grievances and fully rekindling their friendship. Meanwhile, An Ning received an urgent phone call from Zhao Yuqing, who was calling from America, demanding to know why her goods had not yet been shipped. An Ning tried to explain that the situation was too tense and she needed a few more days.
Zhao Yuqing grew agitated, accusing An Ning of acting cowardly despite her ambitions and suggesting she was trying to live happily ever after with her lover. An Ning warned him not to push her too far. Zhao Yuqing gave her a three-day deadline, threatening to expose all the "ugly deeds" An Ning had committed in America and reveal everything about her lover if the money wasn't delivered.
An Ning furiously threw her phone and reached for a drink, but Tai Ge intervened, stopping her. Drunk, An Ning lamented that besides Shi Yue, Tai Ge was the only good person left in her life. Tai Ge tried to console her, saying many people envied her. An Ning, however, believed they were simply watching her make a fool of herself. She struggled to recall what she was like before meeting Shi Yue.
Tai Ge gently reminded her that the old An Ning never cared about others' opinions; she loved to read novels alone under the sun or spend entire days at movie theaters, and always preferred high places, like window seats on planes, for the beautiful scenery. Tai Ge confessed that her life back then was a beautiful dream to him, and he had always longed to be a part of it, but she was "big brother's woman."
An Ning bitterly retorted that her "big brother" only ever loved his own money and status. In his eyes, she was merely a "flower vase" to be played with when he was happy, and a weapon to be discarded when things were bad, leaving her shattered. She declared her hatred for him and everyone from that time. Tai Ge attempted to reason with her, asking if she hated him too.
An Ning replied that if he were Shi Yue, she couldn't hate him, but he wasn't, and no one else ever would be. In a fit of desperation, Tai Ge dragged her to a fountain and splashed water on her to shock her back to her senses. An Ning, however, calmly told him to stop being deluded, stating that even if she couldn't be with Shi Yue, she would never choose Tai Ge. Tai Ge was heartbroken.
Back at Future Up, Wen Di was distraught. Xiao An asked what was wrong. It turned out that the Asian Science and Technology Conference had invited Nan Qiao to speak. It was a prestigious opportunity, sponsored by a major investment company, China Renaissance. However, Nan Qiao had declined, citing stage fright. Wen Di thought of asking Shi Yue for help. Shi Yue was planning to cook a big meal for Nan Qiao when Wen Di called him.
After learning the situation, he promised to handle it. He arrived at Nan Qiao's home with numerous ingredients, humorously comparing Future Up's invitation to the conference to "bitterness turning into sweetness," and Nan Qiao's potential speech to a moment of triumph. Nan Qiao quickly realized Shi Yue was acting as Wen Di's persuader. However, Shi Yue surprised her by claiming he had refused Wen Di and torn up the invitation.
Nan Qiao was shocked, admitting she hadn't completely rejected the idea and secretly wished to attend. Shi Yue then gently coaxed Nan Qiao into admitting her apprehension about public speaking. He encouraged her by reminding her of her confident performance during a previous TV interview and used a "bitter stratagem," claiming he had a bet with Wen Di: if Nan Qiao didn't accept the invitation, he would have to eat an entire bitter gourd raw.
