Xue Feishuang, having lost her innocence and dignity after driving away Xiang Congling, is consumed by hatred for Yi Fuling, whom she blames for taking everything from her. She seeks out Gu Shenghua, a witch from Tianji Gate, offering to pay any price to have Yi Fuling killed. Meanwhile, Feng Ren is trapped in a dream, calling for Yin Meng, his inner demon.
Yi Fuling, determined to sever his connection with Yin Meng and wake him, burns Yin Meng's zither, pleading with Yin Meng not to take him. In his dream, Feng Ren hears zither music, played by Yi Fuling, and realizes he can no longer reach Yin Meng. He accepts her absence and wakes up, thanking Yi Fuling for helping him overcome his obsession.
Although Yi Fuling apologizes for burning the zither, Feng Ren understands that she is not a substitute for Yin Meng and cannot heal his past wounds, subsequently abolishing her female official status. Following clues left by Ji Shu, Yu Haizhen finds Lin Ruizhu's memorial tablet and uses Yi Fuling's birthday to unlock a secret passage.
He then takes Ji Shu as his master through an image on a bronze mirror, who instructs him to learn all his knowledge and entrusts him with a sealed box related to Yi Fuling. Separately, Ji Shu tracks Bai Xue to the secret base where Sky City, now a weapon and not his original design, has been completed. Bai Xue, aware he was following her, unleashes assassins on him, but Ji Shu defeats them.
In her vengeful fury, Bai Xue poisons her own men and reveals her plan to destroy Lanzhou with Sky City to get revenge on Ji Shu, regardless of innocent lives. Ji Shu, determined to destroy Sky City, fights Bai Xue. They both injure each other with swords. Ji Shu manages to smash Sky City's central mechanism, causing it to collapse. Bai Xue stabs him again, but it is too late.
As Sky City explodes, Ji Shu uses his last breath to shield Bai Xue, dying from his wounds. Bai Xue is left murmuring, "How wonderful if life were only like the first encounter."
