Feng Ruche wandered the streets alone. She sought out a former palace maid, who informed her that all her belongings, including her bag of holding, were likely in Yong Ning Palace. Feng Ruche decided to retrieve them herself, not wanting to involve the maid. After successfully obtaining her bag, she unexpectedly witnessed the old granny who used to care for her being subjected to cruel torture.

The granny was accused of being an accomplice to the "fake empress" for burning joss papers, believing Feng Ruche to be dead. Despite the interrogation, the granny defiantly declared that the Feng family would someday return to punish the traitors. Unable to bear it, Feng Ruche intervened, fighting off the guards and rescuing the granny, thus exposing her own identity. Feng Ruche's identity was exposed, but she was unable to protect the old granny, who died tragically in her arms.

Before her death, the granny implored Feng Ruche not to give up, reminding her that her father, Feng Tianyi, overcame immense difficulties to become the Winged Emperor. She urged Feng Ruche, as a daughter of the Feng family, to regain everything she had lost and to seek out Yang Duan, who had joined the Silver Wings Cavalry, for help. Feng Ruche tearfully promised to fulfill her dying wish. As pursuers closed in, Feng Ruche found a locked gate.

Miraculously, it opened, allowing her to escape. Unseen by Feng Ruche, it was Bai Dangdang, ashamed to face her, who secretly opened the gate, wishing her safety. Meanwhile, Xue Jingkong, suffering from a recurrence of his Frozen Syndrome, sensed Feng Ruche was in danger and endured the pain to rush to her side. However, before he could reach the palace, he learned that Feng Ruche was safe.

It was then that Xu Yu found Xue Jingkong, and the two engaged in a great battle. Believing that Xue Jingkong had helped her in the palace, Feng Ruche returned to the academy to find him. Her pet Orca, visibly distressed, led her to a forest where Xu Yu was attacking Xue Jingkong. Orca bravely shielded Xue Jingkong from a blow.

When Xu Yu turned to attack Feng Ruche, Xue Jingkong protected her, but was struck and fell unconscious into a lake. Feng Ruche immediately jumped in after him and, finding him unresponsive, gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. This act revived Xue Jingkong's powers and restored all his memories, including a past connection with Feng Ruche. His magic recovered, Xue Jingkong drove off Xu Yu.

Feng Ruche expressed her understanding that he had tried to push her away earlier to protect her, and asked him to accompany her to find Yang Duan and the Silver Wings Cavalry. Xue Jingkong refused, stating that their mutual acts of saving each other had made them "even," and that he preferred to live alone, finding affections a burden. Confused and hurt by his words, Feng Ruche tearfully kissed him goodbye, thanking him for the "flash in the pan" experience.

After Feng Ruche departed, Xue Jingkong sorrowfully buried Orca. He then confided that he remembered everything. He revealed his original name was Fang Wuyi. The Flower Goddess Shao Wu, unable to reunite with her lover Pian Yu due to Feng Tianyi and Yi Fuling, had possessed his body, intending for him to kill Feng Ruche as an act of revenge.

Though he had resisted harming her, the Flower Goddess had foretold that Feng Ruche would one day die by his hand. To protect her, he chose to remain distant, unable to bear the pain of potentially killing the one he loved. Feng Ruche, following the granny's advice, sought out Yang Duan using a secret code. Yang Duan informed her that Du Xianyin had already become the Winged Empress within the Silver Wings Cavalry, replacing her.

Feng Ruche noted that with her golden wings severed, her true identity would not be believed. Yang Duan added that Du Xianyin's leadership had greatly boosted the cavalry's morale, and they had recently declared war on Liang City, Xuan Ji's territory. Feng Ruche found refuge with Yang Duan.

Out of concern and longing, Xue Jingkong attempted to find Feng Ruche, but she had been gone too long for him to pinpoint her exact whereabouts, and he could only perceive her presence in a mountain wilderness. He experienced fleeting visions of her, indicating his deep longing. In the mountain wilderness, Xue Jingkong played a tune on his flute. Yun Muyang, passing by, recognized the melody and excitedly rushed to embrace Xue Jingkong, overjoyed to find his long-lost brother.

Yun Muyang shared his experiences serving under Nanyu City and being saved by Qi Zhenxian, the Silver Wings Emperor, after being severely wounded in the war in Jianning. Xue Jingkong apologized, revealing that their parents' death was a consequence of Xu Yu pursuing him to their home. Devastated by this revelation, Yun Muyang regretted ever bringing Xue Jingkong home and swore to find Xu Yu and avenge his parents. Later, Yang Duan was brutally murdered.

Before he died, he entrusted Feng Ruche with a crucial letter, urging her to escape through a secret passage and deliver it to General Lian Yi in Ruo Shui within three days. Despite Feng Ruche's plea to stay with him, Yang Duan pushed her into the passage, sacrificing himself to ensure her escape. Feng Ruche watched as Yang Duan's house went up in flames.

On her journey to Ruo Shui, she was accosted by bandits who attempted to steal her package. Fighting fiercely to protect the letter, Feng Ruche sustained injuries but successfully retrieved the vital document.
