Never Say Goodbye Episode 44 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Mu Qing reported to Rong Yao that Skylark's identity was likely compromised. He explained that Ou Kexin's former caretaker, Madam Bao, had suddenly reappeared at Mr. Ou's house, and her every action seemed to be testing Skylark. Mu Qing suspected that Madam Bao was sent by Yan Jing to expose Skylark and asked Rong Yao to investigate Madam Bao. Mu Qing then revealed that he knew Ou Kexin was Rong Yu.
Rong Yao, having failed to protect Rong Yu in the past, apologized to Mu Qing. Mu Qing also apologized for his unkind behavior towards Rong Yao since Rong Yu's accident. They reconciled, with Mu Qing affectionately calling Rong Yao "Big Brother-in-law" once again, promising to protect Rong Yu from then on. Meanwhile, Li Tianlong, a former subordinate of Matsumoto, called Yan Jing, demanding his help to rise within the Tiandao Group now that Matsumoto was caught.
Yan Jing refused, claiming he had retired from the underworld and was powerless to help. Enraged, Li Tianlong accused Yan Jing of abandoning him and vowed to take revenge. Separately, Spectre contacted Mr. Ou to discuss a partnership. Mr. Ou, aware of Spectre's urgent need for funds for his new drug research and his own advantageous position after Matsumoto's downfall, stalled the meeting. He feigned being preoccupied with Ou Kexin's recovery, making Spectre wait.
Spectre, however, warned Mr. Ou not to delay too long, reminding him that other buyers were available. Yan Jing met with Madam Bao to discuss Ou Kexin. Madam Bao confirmed that Ou Kexin exhibited many of the original Ou Kexin's traits, such as her specific allergies and a birthmark on her ankle. However, Madam Bao insisted something felt off; Ou Kexin's temperament and voice were subtly different from before.
Pleased by Madam Bao's observations, Yan Jing instructed her to collect Ou Kexin's hair and used cups for further examination. After Madam Bao left, Yan Jing immediately ordered his subordinates to conduct a detailed investigation into the explosion in France three years ago, an incident Ou Kexin was involved in. Rong Yao informed Mu Qing that he had discovered Yan Jing's men had been frequently sighted near a kindergarten, which was attended by Madam Bao's granddaughter.
Rong Yao deduced that Yan Jing was likely using the granddaughter to coerce Madam Bao into cooperating. To counteract this, Rong Yao sent Zhao Ran, disguised as a kindergarten security guard, to retrieve the granddaughter's bracelet. Rong Yao suggested that Ou Kexin give the bracelet to Madam Bao to gain her trust, assuring Mu Qing that the bureau had taken measures to protect the granddaughter and had informed local police.
Later, Ou Kexin handed the bracelet to Madam Bao, promising to protect her granddaughter. Deeply moved and reassured, Madam Bao decided to help Ou Kexin. Concurrently, Yan Jing received photographic evidence from the French authorities confirming that no one could have survived the severity of the explosion three years prior. This solidified his conviction that the current Ou Kexin was an imposter.
Ou Kexin took the initiative to inform Mr. Ou that she had discovered Yan Jing had long been colluding with Matsumoto. She revealed that Yan Jing had planned to use Matsumoto's subordinates to kill her and Mu Qing in Japan, thereby sabotaging the K Group's business with Spectre. Mr. Ou then confronted Yan Jing about Ou Kexin's accusations. Yan Jing countered, claiming that the group's recent troubles were all linked to Mu Qing, and Ou Kexin consistently defended him.
He then directly accused Ou Kexin of being an imposter and a police undercover agent. To prove his point, Yan Jing called Madam Bao to testify. However, Madam Bao, having been won over by Ou Kexin, turned on Yan Jing. She confessed that Yan Jing had coerced her into fabricating claims about Ou Kexin being a fake and instructing her to harm Ou Kexin.
Madam Bao firmly asserted that the current Ou Kexin was indeed the Kexin she had cared for since childhood. Yan Jing angrily accused Ou Kexin and Madam Bao of conspiring against him. Ou Kexin then escalated the confrontation by revealing Yan Jing's role as the mastermind behind the three-year-old explosion in France. She then connected Li Tianlong to the plot, facilitating a phone call between him and Mr. Ou.
Li Tianlong, who had previously been rejected by Yan Jing for help, confirmed Yan Jing's crimes, explaining that Yan Jing, desperate to take over the K Group, had conspired with Matsumoto to eliminate Mr. Ou by targeting Ou Kexin in France. Li Tianlong, now allied with Ou Kexin, sought the distribution rights for "Youmeng" in their country in exchange for his testimony. Mr. Ou, enraged, had Yan Jing tied up in the basement. He questioned Yan Jing at gunpoint.
Yan Jing confessed to giving Ou Kexin's address in France to Matsumoto and Li Tianlong three years prior. He also admitted to informing Li Tianlong about Ou Kexin and Mu Qing's whereabouts in Japan, leading to the recent assassination attempt. Mr. Ou, in a fit of rage, shot Yan Jing in the knee. Despite his injury, Yan Jing defiantly maintained that Ou Kexin was a police undercover agent.
Ou Kexin, who had discreetly sent a distress signal with her location to Rong Yao, rushed into the basement, pleading with her father to spare Yan Jing's life. Mr. Ou fired another shot at Yan Jing, declaring that his fate was now in his own hands. As Yan Jing's vision blurred, police officers stormed the basement, a sight that confirmed his dying suspicions before he finally lost consciousness. Madam Bao packed her belongings, preparing to leave the Ou family.
Before her departure, she advised Ou Kexin to take care, revealing that she knew the girl before her was not the real Ou Kexin but wished her well, urging her to escape the dangerous life. Haunted by Yan Jing's insistent warnings about Ou Kexin being a fake, Mr. Ou secretly initiated his own investigation.
The results of the paternity test he commissioned confirmed that the current Ou Kexin was indeed an imposter and that the real Ou Kexin had tragically died in the French explosion three years ago. The revelation, after having developed genuine fatherly affection for this "fake" daughter, left Mr. Ou emotionally devastated and struggling to accept the painful truth.
