Never Say Goodbye Episode 43 Recap
> Never Say Goodbye Recap
Ou Kexin lay severely wounded from a gunshot, while Mu Qing frantically searched for an exit from their confinement, but found none. Kexin, weak and bleeding, told him his efforts were futile, convinced that their captors would not have imprisoned them in a place with a way out. She asked if he would be sad if she died there, but Mu Qing urged her to save her strength, dismissing her words as nonsense.
Kexin, however, pressed him, asking if he had ever liked her, even a little. Mu Qing evaded the question, again telling her to preserve her energy, which Kexin found dull and boring. Meanwhile, police officers in Japan searched for Mu Qing and Ou Kexin, finding no trace. Rong Yao anxiously awaited news. He received a call confirming that Mu Qing and Kexin were still missing, and the "Spectre" they had apprehended was a decoy.
His team worried about their undercover agents' cover being compromised, but Rong Yao had no immediate solution. Back in the cellar, Kexin brought up Rong Yu, the woman Mu Qing held dear, asking about her appearance and personality, and if she was prettier than Kexin. Mu Qing avoided discussing the past. Kexin then shifted to the future, expressing her hope to end the mission and live an authentic life, free from pretense, if they survived.
Mu Qing assured her it was possible. As Kexin grew colder and sleepier, nearing unconsciousness, she recited a poem that Mu Qing had shared only with Rong Yu. She then pleaded with Mu Qing to hold her tightly. Upon hearing the familiar lines, Mu Qing was struck by the realization that Kexin was, in fact, Rong Yu. His mind flashed with all the moments he had experienced with Kexin. He frantically kicked the cellar door, screaming for help.
Kexin collapsed, and Mu Qing rushed to her side, holding her close and repeatedly calling her name, "Rong Yu." Just then, the door opened, and light flooded in, revealing the police who had come to rescue them. Rong Yao reported to Director Liu that Mu Qing and Rong Yu were safe but that Matsumoto’s subordinate, Li Tianlong, who had injured Kexin, had fled. Director Liu instructed Rong Yao to discreetly inform Mr. Ou about Kexin's hospitalization.
Upon receiving the news, Mr. Ou became agitated, demanding that his daughter be brought back immediately. Ou Kexin woke up in the hospital, disoriented. Mu Qing gently told her not to move and explained that the police had rescued them. He also informed her that Matsumoto and a fake Spectre had been captured. Kexin teased him about crying and asked why he had denied liking her. She then demanded to know how long he would keep things from her.
Mu Qing confessed that ever since her supposed accident, he had been unable to forgive himself. He revealed that Kexin had constantly reminded him of Rong Yu, and the more time he spent with her, the more he missed Rong Yu, even attempting to numb his feelings with the resemblance. However, hearing Kexin recite their shared poem in the cellar left him unequivocally certain that the woman before him was his beloved Rong Yu.
He admitted to breaking protocol but declared his unwavering belief that she was Rong Yu, regardless of her acknowledgment. Overcome with emotion, Kexin broke down, admitting how much she had missed him and apologizing for her deception. The two embraced, finally reunited. Meanwhile, Shao Nan informed Yan Jing that Madam Bao had been found. Yan Jing ordered Shao Nan to keep a close eye on her and to bring her to Ou Kexin as a surprise once Kexin returned home.
Yan Jing later visited Mr. Ou, presenting him with cured meat. He spoke of Kexin's injury and mentioned that Madam Bao, who missed Kexin and felt remorse for what happened three years prior, had contacted him. Yan Jing suggested that Madam Bao be brought in to care for Kexin due to her familiarity with Kexin's preferences, believing it would aid her recovery. Mr. Ou approved the idea of a "surprise" for his daughter.
Li Ruosheng drove Kexin and Mu Qing home. Mu Qing was attentive and caring towards Kexin. Upon their arrival, Mr. Ou reprimanded Mu Qing for Kexin's injury, but Kexin interceded, eventually calming her father. At dinner, Kexin tasted peanut milk and noticed peanuts in every dish. She then reminded Mr. Ou of her severe peanut allergy. Mr. Ou called for Madam Bao, who then appeared, surprising Kexin.
Madam Bao served carp with bean paste, which Kexin also revealed she was allergic to. Mr. Ou noted Madam Bao's forgetfulness regarding Kexin's allergies. Mu Qing observed Madam Bao's unusual behavior. Kexin, suspicious, asked about Madam Bao's presence and learned that Yan Jing had recommended her. She exchanged a glance with Mu Qing. Madam Bao then offered Kexin some soup but "intentionally" spilled it on her leg, using the incident to check Kexin's birthmark on her foot while cleaning it.
She then retreated to the kitchen, claiming clumsiness due to her age, which Mu Qing found peculiar. It was revealed that Yan Jing had indeed located Madam Bao. Madam Bao confirmed that she had kept silent about Yan Jing's actions from three years ago, a fact Yan Jing acknowledged, implying her family's survival depended on it. He then threatened Madam Bao's granddaughter to coerce her into confirming Ou Kexin's true identity.
Madam Bao was reluctant to commit such a harmful act, but Yan Jing insisted it would be a way to repay Mr. Ou. Pleading for her granddaughter's safety, Madam Bao reluctantly agreed to cooperate. Mr. Ou informed Mu Qing that he was gradually transferring the group's business to Li Ruosheng and that the real Spectre had contacted him that morning. With Bunichi Matsumoto’s arrest, K Group was now Spectre's sole potential partner.
Mr. Ou tasked Mu Qing with handling Spectre's arrival, instructing him to use their newfound leverage to their advantage. He warned Mu Qing that he was overlooking Kexin’s injury as a last chance. Later, Li Ruosheng told Mu Qing that Mr. Ou had promoted him and planned for Mu Qing and Kexin to live abroad in retirement after the deal with Spectre was finalized. Mu Qing teased Li Ruosheng about becoming too realistic.
Li Ruosheng clarified that he was merely a temporary caretaker of K Group, as it would eventually belong to Mu Qing as Mr. Ou's son-in-law. Madam Bao covertly entered Kexin's room, attempting to inspect a scar on her head, but Kexin prevented this attempt. Mu Qing later updated Rong Yao, confirming that the apprehended Spectre was fake, making K Group the real Spectre’s only option.
He mentioned Mr. Ou's increasing distrust, which led to the transfer of business responsibilities to Li Ruosheng and the plan for Mr. Ou to leave Yungang with Kexin after the deal. Mu Qing emphasized the need for extreme caution going forward. Rong Yao inquired about Kexin's recovery, to which Mu Qing replied that she was doing well, but underscored the gravity of their recent near-catastrophe.
