My Sunshine Episode 4 Recap
> My Sunshine Recap
Zhao Mosheng, overjoyed, reflected on the success of her "operation plan." He Yichen not only knew her name but remembered it clearly. Her persistent pursuit of him was evident as she went to the Law School to copy his class schedule. On another occasion, she encountered him in the library while borrowing law books, quickly assuring him she wasn't following him, to which He Yichen commented that the books she chose were too difficult for an elective.
He Yichen later confronted her, asking why she always followed him and stating his disinterest in dating during college. Zhao Mosheng quickly responded that she could simply queue up for him. Meanwhile, He Yichen was found in his dorm room looking at a photo Zhao Mosheng had taken of him, dismissing his roommate's curiosity by calling it "an accident."
Zhao Mosheng continued to create "accidental encounters," eagerly offering him photos and pestering him to treat her to a meal, despite his consistently cold demeanor. The university debate club held its recruitment, and Zhao Mosheng applied. Despite being a chemistry major with no legal background, she was accepted due to her photography skills. Vice President Xu Ying questioned her admission, highlighting her lack of legal experience and major.
However, the club's President explained that the university encouraged broader recruitment to diversify clubs. He Yichen, also a Vice President, supported Zhao Mosheng’s admission, stating that suitability for the debate club isn't exclusive to law students, nor is a chemistry major inherently unsuitable. When another student jokingly accused He Yichen of favoritism for his "girlfriend," he firmly denied it, clarifying that the President made the initial decision, and he merely voted in favor.
He added that making accusations without investigating the truth violated basic legal principles. Later, Vice President Xu Ying directly confronted Zhao Mosheng, explicitly telling her that the debate club was not a place for romance or for freshmen to chase boys. Zhao Mosheng, undeterred, boldly stated that she understood and would diligently work within the club while pursuing He Yichen outside of it, much to Xu Ying's annoyance.
One day, Zhao Mosheng was tasked with delivering forty lunchboxes for the debate club, a task that left her overwhelmed. She spotted He Yichen and his classmate nearby and asked them to watch the remaining boxes while she delivered the first batch. She sneezed repeatedly, indicating she had a cold. Though He Yichen appeared indifferent, his classmate noted that Zhao Mosheng seemed to be overeating and had a cold. He Yichen then discreetly purchased cold medicine for her.
His classmate also mentioned that Zhao Mosheng had openly declared to Xu Ying her intention to work hard in the club and pursue He Yichen outside of it, asking He Yichen for his thoughts on being the "hero" of the situation. Zhao Mosheng, meanwhile, internally wondered if Xu Ying liked He Yichen, given her focus on her among all the freshmen. Later, Zhao Mosheng's roommate, Shao Mei, returned to their dorm injured, supported by another student.
Shao Mei was distraught, revealing that the money she earned that month from her part-time job had been stolen, and she needed the income for her next semester's tuition. Zhao Mosheng, concerned for her friend's safety, insisted that if Shao Mei absolutely had to work, she would accompany her. During a debate club meeting, Xu Ying remarked on Zhao Mosheng's prolonged absence, reiterating her earlier doubts about freshmen's perseverance and their tendency to quit when faced with difficulty.
He Yichen, needing to attend his internship at a law firm, left the meeting early. While at a café with a senior lawyer meeting a client, he was surprised to see Zhao Mosheng there. She explained that she was waiting for Shao Mei, who worked nearby, to ensure her safety on the walk home at night. He Yichen pointed out that the cost of her drink exceeded Shao Mei's earnings.
Zhao Mosheng admitted she hadn't told Shao Mei about her expenses, pretending she was merely studying and drinking free water, and asked him to keep it a secret. He Yichen, who was interning at the law firm, offered to walk Shao Mei home in the evenings if she didn't mind. Zhao Mosheng immediately rejected the idea, expressing discomfort with He Yichen and Shao Mei, a single man and woman, walking together.
She directly asked if he liked Shao Mei's type and, relieved by his response, declared that while it was acceptable for him not to like her, he "must not like other people." He Yichen then proposed that Zhao Mosheng could come to the law firm to study every night, and she could wait for Shao Mei there. Zhao Mosheng was thrilled by this arrangement.
However, Shao Mei, wanting to avoid burdening Zhao Mosheng and potentially interfering with her important matters, quit her job. Upset by this, Zhao Mosheng immediately dragged Shao Mei back to the boss to plead for her job back, but the boss had already found a replacement and refused. Faced with this setback, Zhao Mosheng decided to conceal Shao Mei's resignation from He Yichen and continued meeting him as arranged.
One rainy evening at the law firm, He Yichen and Zhao Mosheng encountered an agitated man named Mr. Zhang, who was yelling for Lawyer Mao, accusing him of taking bribes and deceiving him into a lost lawsuit. He Yichen calmly intervened, demonstrating his knowledge of Mr. Zhang's case and assuring him that there was new evidence and the firm would appeal. As Mr. Zhang left in the heavy rain without an umbrella, He Yichen gave him his own.
Zhao Mosheng questioned what He Yichen would do without an umbrella. He Yichen explained that while it was okay for him to get wet, Mr. Zhang was more vulnerable, and it was important to help those who are tricked and bullied and lack the means or knowledge to fight back. Zhao Mosheng praised him, saying that helping even some people was "awesome." He Yichen then noted that it was getting late and Shao Mei should be getting off work.
Zhao Mosheng nervously made a phone call, then informed He Yichen that Shao Mei had gone home alone, claiming she couldn't find the law firm. He Yichen drove Zhao Mosheng back to the university dorms. Upon arrival, Zhao Mosheng, unable to maintain the deception, confessed that Shao Mei had actually resigned because she was worried about Zhao Mosheng picking her up, and Zhao Mosheng had lied because she wanted to continue spending time with him.
She hoped for a "lighter sentence" for telling the truth. He Yichen, amused, told her that principle only applied to the police, and as a lawyer, he had other considerations. He then walked away, smiling subtly after she couldn't see him. Later, Zhao Mosheng approached He Yichen outside, offering him a drink to appease him. He Yichen declined, stating that too many sugary drinks would make her "stupid."
Back at the debate club, Xu Ying again confronted Zhao Mosheng about her previous absences. He Yichen intervened, stating that he had instructed her to come, citing her low attendance. Zhao Mosheng enthusiastically agreed, promising to make up for her mistakes. Xu Ying, frustrated, once more accused the two of turning the club into a place for romance. He Yichen calmly clarified that Xu Ying misunderstood.
When Xu Ying questioned Zhao Mosheng's utility to the club, the President reminded them of Zhao Mosheng's photography skills and assigned her the task of taking photos at the upcoming debate finals. Zhao Mosheng promised to do a great job. She then thanked He Yichen for speaking up for her, asking if it meant he had forgiven her. He Yichen maintained he was just being objective and acknowledged her photography skills.
Zhao Mosheng excitedly promised to make him look "super handsome" in her photos, to which He Yichen dryly replied, "You don't have to. Just make it look like a normal human being." The debate club later embarked on an away match. Before boarding the bus, Zhao Mosheng distributed breakfast to the members. She asked He Yichen to save her a front seat because she easily got carsick and also asked him to carry her camera bag.
He Yichen suddenly felt unwell, which his roommate later attributed to unclean lamb kebabs they had eaten. At the competition venue, He Yichen discovered his cue cards were missing. Xu Ying immediately blamed Zhao Mosheng, recalling that she had taken He Yichen's bag. Zhao Mosheng denied losing them, insisting she hadn't opened his folder.
He Yichen, however, interceded, stating that the cards were present when Zhao Mosheng returned the bag, and he likely lost them himself when he went to the bathroom. He confidently declared that a debater who needed cue cards to win was not a qualified debater. As the national college debate competition finals began, Zhao Mosheng diligently photographed the event. During He Yichen's summary speech, after a confident opening, he suddenly faltered and forgot his lines.
