An Fei confided in Mimi, her landlord's cat, expressing her deep concern that Ye Tian was plotting against Ye Hai, intending to exploit his mental health issues. Unbeknownst to her, Ye Hai, who was still asleep, overheard her worries. He woke up, teasing her for muttering to herself so early in the morning and playing with the cat, while making it clear he understood her unspoken care for him.
An Fei, sensing his distress, asked him if he would truly do nothing to retaliate against those who wished to harm him, to which Ye Hai simply told her not to worry. Later, An Fei approached Mo Liang at the lab, her brow furrowed with worry. Mo Liang confirmed her fears, explaining that Jiang Zhi and Ye Tian were indeed escalating their actions against Ye Hai.
He warned her that as long as Ye Hai remained the owner of the private island, he would continue to face relentless threats. An Fei pleaded with Mo Liang not to harm Ye Hai, to which he advised her to remain composed and not allow the situation to confuse her. Jiang Zhi arrived at the lab, ostensibly to check on the situation, but Mo Liang was clearly unwilling to engage with him, suggesting he speak to Liu Lan instead.
Jiang Zhi then revealed a surprising secret to Mo Liang: he was Liu Lan's teacher. Ye Hai was set to appear on a live program about energy alongside Jiang Zhi. Before the broadcast, Ye Hai made it clear to Jiang Zhi that he should not bring up the topic of borrowing the island during the show. Ye Hai then pressed Jiang Zhi for information about Dr. C's whereabouts.
Jiang Zhi, adjusting his glasses, stated he was not well acquainted with Dr. C or the late Chairman Ye Feng, only having collaborated on a past experiment that unfortunately failed. Ye Hai then accused Jiang Zhi of seeking revenge for his family's actions, which he claimed had prevented that experiment in the past.
As the program commenced, Jiang Zhi challenged Ye Hai’s leadership at Han Hai, accusing him of being merely a figurehead who clung to conservative ideals, thus hindering the company's progress. Ye Hai, with a thinly veiled smile, retorted that the management of his company was an internal matter and none of Jiang Zhi's concern. Jiang Zhi persisted, bringing up the separation of hydrogen from seawater, implying Ye Hai was manipulating public opinion rather than leading.
He then sharply questioned why Han Hai had repeatedly obstructed the Poseidon experiment after sponsoring it, and mockingly referenced Ye Hai’s perceived mental instability, which had become a public joke. At this, Ye Hai rose dramatically, facing the camera with a pointed finger.
He declared himself Poseidon, the god of the sea, and passionately warned humanity against exploiting their planet, urging them not to repeat the "incessant dumb things" of previous generations, which had led to disasters like Atlantis and could culminate in a "great flood of the next life." He proclaimed the sea as his home and delivered a final, sincere piece of advice: "Do not step on the footsteps of people who came first."
Then, to everyone's surprise, he broke into a laugh, apologizing for forgetting his lines. He playfully revealed this entire outburst was a staged act, a clever prank to dispel any doubts about his mental stability. The director, finding his performance "interesting," allowed him to continue. The broadcast of Ye Hai’s program instantly captivated audiences, particularly enthralling countless young women.
After the program, Ye Hai confronted Ye Tian in the studio, asserting that his performance had successfully countered Ye Tian's attempts to use An Fei against him, and warned his brother to desist. Ye Tian, in turn, cautioned Ye Hai about the financial burden of delaying the Poseidon project, implying that Han Hai could collapse in their hands, but Ye Hai dismissed it as another one of his brother's "tricks."
Ye Hai then expressed concern about the circulating opinion that Han Hai might collapse under their management. Meanwhile, Ye Hai remained anxious about his inability to reach Dr. C, whose phone calls went unanswered and whose whereabouts Xu Pu couldn't determine. He even asked his assistant to find a boy named Jason. A Ming called An Fei, praising Ye Hai as a responsible and wealthy individual whom she should "hold onto really hard."
That evening, Ye Hai returned home to find An Fei smiling, awaiting him. She complimented his performance, acknowledging his intelligence and unwavering commitment to protect what he valued. Ye Hai then jokingly asked if she had been responsible for the positive articles posted about him (which An Fei had earlier confirmed to A Ming she arranged), which she denied, attributing them to his many admirers, though he dismissed her response as "sophistry."
Mo Liang accompanied Liu Lan home, reflecting on how they seemed to be returning to their past at the Hai Cheng Research Institute, though he acknowledged they could only move forward. He confronted her about concealing her teacher-student relationship with Jiang Zhi and about Mussen’s decision to allow Jiang Zhi into the lab, which he felt she should have rejected.
Liu Lan claimed she had wanted to tell him earlier but feared he would overthink it, reiterating that Mussen was behind Jiang Zhi's inclusion. Mo Liang expressed feeling increasingly distant from her, finding her recent actions puzzling. Liu Lan invited him upstairs to talk further. After she changed into a more casual outfit and offered to make him chestnut bread, Mo Liang, feeling uncomfortable with her secrecy, decided to leave.
Liu Lan tearfully embraced him, pleading for his trust, but Mo Liang, still troubled by her lack of honesty, ultimately departed. Later, while Liu Lan was privately distraught, Zhu Miaomiao arrived to collect some documents. In her haste, Liu Lan inadvertently placed Mo Liang’s medical report into a folder and handed it to Zhu Miaomiao, who then delivered it to An Fei.
Upon reading the report, An Fei was devastated to discover that Mo Liang had a severe illness that meant he wouldn't be alive for long. Her eyes welled with tears as she struggled to accept the news, feeling a desperate urge to help him complete his experiment, yet overwhelmed by her own limitations and inadequacy.
Lin Huayin sought out Ye Hai to apologize for Jiang Zhi’s actions on the program, explaining that her father had granted Jiang Zhi access to the experiment without her knowledge. She emphasized her innocence and asked if he could overlook her involvement. Ye Hai assured her he wasn’t angry, understanding she wasn’t capable of manipulating such events, and believed she wouldn’t intentionally harm him.
As a heavy rain began to fall outside, Ye Hai recognized it as a sign of An Fei's sadness. Making an excuse about being summoned, he promptly left Lin Huayin to go to An Fei. Lin Huayin, feeling his deep affection for An Fei, questioned if there was any place for her in his heart. Concurrently, Mo Liang discovered his own medical report, which confirmed his terminal illness. Despite this grim revelation, he composed himself, maintaining a facade of normalcy.
Meanwhile, Ye Hai's alter ego, Poseidon, observed An Fei's tears for Mo Liang. Poseidon urged Ye Hai to confront Mo Liang and "teach him a little lesson," but Ye Hai hesitated, fearing An Fei would hate him for it. Disgusted by what he perceived as Ye Hai's cowardice and An Fei's emotional wavering between two men, Poseidon took over and briefly appeared before Mo Liang in the lab.
Their encounter was short and awkward, with Poseidon subtly probing Mo Liang about his experimental goals and suggesting a hypothetical post-experiment journey at sea. After this brief interaction, Poseidon left. Dong Zilong approached Ye Hai, requesting his cooperation in lending the island. He argued that only by doing so could they uncover new evidence regarding the Naples experiment, which he claimed Liu Lan had sabotaged. Without access, the truth would remain hidden. Just then, Ye Hai received a message revealing that Dr. C had been taken. He immediately asked Dong Zilong to assist him in locating Andrew.
