He shared a personal story about a friend, implied to be himself, who, due to family pressure, chose to break up with the girl he loved and later regretted not living a simpler life.
Lin Xing Chen explained that she no longer wanted to live for her mother's expectations, a life that had exhausted her, and desired to pursue her own path, potentially becoming a manga artist. Convinced by her determination, Zheng Meng Xi offered to help her secure a chance to study at Miyazaki Hayao's workshop, provided she continued to work hard and learn.
Lin Xing Chen then cleverly deduced that the friend Zheng Meng Xi spoke of was himself, and the girl was Yan Xiao, observing that one cannot hide love in their eyes. Daniel took Lin Xing Chen to an abandoned factory, where she defiantly declared her family's bankruptcy, asserting that he would gain nothing from her kidnapping. Daniel, however, was not interested in ransom; he sternly ordered her to call Chen Ming Li and instruct her to marry Ye Kai, threatening to harm her if she refused.
Lin Xing Chen resisted, claiming she didn't remember Chen Ming Li's phone number and that her family didn't care about her anyway. Realizing her predicament, Lin Xing Chen quickly devised a clever plan. Feigning a severe hunger brought on by her "princess attitude," she demanded that Daniel go buy her a specific order: french fries and a comic book titled "The Innocent Tenant and the Cool Landlord" from Yan Xiao's manga store.
She insisted that only coaxing, not coercion, would work on her. Arriving at the location where Lin Xing Chen was last seen, Jiang Nian Yu and the others found no immediate clues beyond Lin Xing Chen's dropped phone. Zheng Chu Yao, frustrated, suggested deploying a large search party, but Jiang Nian Yu, trusting Lin Xing Chen's intelligence, predicted she would find a way to contact them. He decided they should wait at Yan Xiao's manga store, anticipating her ingenuity.
Their patience paid off when Daniel appeared at the store, requesting french fries and a copy of "The Innocent Tenant and the Cool Landlord." Jiang Nian Yu and his companions covertly followed Daniel back to the abandoned factory. Inside, Zheng Chu Yao created a diversion, allowing the others to subdue Daniel, only to discover that Lin Xing Chen had already made her own escape, having freed herself and climbed out a window while Daniel was away.
Jiang Nian Yu found her precariously balanced on a narrow, suspended ledge outside. He calmly instructed her not to look down, but to focus on him and slowly reach for his hand. As she stretched out, the ledge beneath her gave way, and she plummeted. Without hesitation, Jiang Nian Yu leaped after her, catching her in his arms while also grabbing onto the ledge with his other hand.
Just as his strength seemed to wane, Zhou Wei and Liang Qi Fan swiftly pushed a large trash bin filled with bags beneath them. Jiang Nian Yu expertly dropped himself and Lin Xing Chen into it, cushioning their fall. Lin Xing Chen lost consciousness in his embrace. This perilous ordeal, especially holding Lin Xing Chen so tightly, miraculously cured Jiang Nian Yu's long-standing phobia of physical contact, likely connected to the trauma of his sister's death.
Lin Xing Chen was rushed to the hospital, regaining consciousness three or four days later. During her recovery, she learned that Daniel had been arrested and Ye Kai was under investigation. She mused that Ye Kai's elaborate schemes were merely to marry her mother, Chen Ming Li, regretting that she missed the supposedly dramatic scene where her mother reportedly berated him until he cried.
Despite missing many events, including the Four Leaf Symphony Band's performance, Lin Xing Chen found solace in the fact that she had not missed Jiang Nian Yu, the person who held her tightly in his arms even at the brink of death. They surrounded her, signaling a heartfelt farewell performance. The Bear Knight, a familiar figure from her past, also made an appearance. Jiang Nian Yu then removed the Bear Knight's head, revealing his identity. He gazed deeply into Lin Xing Chen's eyes and gently placed a diamond ring on her finger, symbolizing their enduring bond.
This joyous moment united everyone in happiness, seemingly dissolving all past grievances. In the years that followed, many characters found their own paths. Chen Ming Li, Lin Xing Chen's mother, courageously started her own business at the age of fifty, successfully opening three buyer shops in Paris. Ye Kai continued his pursuit of Chen Ming Li, though now using more conventional methods. Julia, meanwhile, successfully turned her hobby into a career by opening an online second-hand shop.
Zheng Meng Xi persistently continued his pursuit of Yan Xiao, although he had yet to make breakthrough progress, but he tirelessly enjoyed the chase. Zheng Chu Yao was dispatched to Europe by his father to expand the family business; before leaving, he purchased a building directly across from Lin Xing Chen's home, often returning to flaunt his sports car.
