After Feng Dongdong discovers Xue Lingqiao has been staying away from home, he finds him at the Taekwondo studio. Xue Lingqiao has just seen a student, Xiao Guai, and his mother off, accepting a gift of homemade cookies from the grateful mother. Witnessing this, Feng Dongdong angrily confronts Xue Lingqiao, accusing him of pursuing other women despite his connection to Tian Jingzhi.
Expressing a strong sense of possessiveness, which he likens to a childhood incident with a beloved toy, Feng Dongdong reveals that Tian Jingzhi waits up for Xue Lingqiao every night. Xue Lingqiao dismisses his concerns, stating that to him, there is no difference between Tian Jingzhi and the mother-child pair. He internally concludes that he must maintain distance from Tian Jingzhi to prevent her from treating him like a personal possession.
Despite this resolution, Xue Lingqiao returns to Tian Jingzhi’s home late that night. He finds her asleep on the sofa, just as Feng Dongdong had described, and gently carries her to bed before leaving again. The next morning, Tian Jingzhi wakes in her bed, hopefully rushing downstairs only to find him gone. Disappointed, she takes out her frustration on Feng Dongdong when he arrives to pick her up.
Later, Tian Jingzhi crouches outside her parents' house, waiting for Xue Lingqiao so they can arrive together and conceal their cold war. Meanwhile, a mysterious man named Xu Laibao continues to monitor Xue Lingqiao. Upon learning Xue Lingqiao was at the police station for helping someone, Xu Laibao grimly notes his old savior's tendency to get into trouble in the same way.
A flashback reveals that years ago, Xue Lingqiao saved a young Xu Laibao and his sick mother from soldiers. Now, Xu Laibao harbors a deep grudge, believing that if Xue Lingqiao had not hidden his supernatural nature back then, his mother might not have died. Ye Chen, having detected anomalies in Tian Jingzhi's blood sample, visits her on set.
He asks her to be a volunteer for a new experiment, but she vehemently refuses, wary of becoming a "human guinea pig." Undeterred, Ye Chen shares his theory with Li Yanzhi: the dormant corpse from the car accident has awakened.
