Mr. Swimmer Episode 20 Recap
> Mr. Swimmer Recap
Song Chacha reveals Bai Yongze's medical condition to Huang Donglei, requesting secrecy, but Fang Jingjing overhears. Angered by not being informed, Fang Jingjing advises Huang Donglei against letting Bai Yongze participate in the qualifying competition. Bai Yongze is either disqualified or not selected, but he insists on competing to prove he is healthy.
Lan Tian, attempting to persuade Song Chacha to talk to Bai Yongze, inadvertently lets Luo Guanjie (and later Jiang Shi in a separate incident) overhear about Bai Yongze's condition, much to Song Chacha's dismay as she tries to contain the secret. When Song Chacha goes to convince Bai Yongze not to compete, she accidentally reveals that his illness is widely known, upsetting him deeply, though he still remains resolute.
Despite her guilt and worry, Bai Yongze insists on proving himself through swimming. Fang Jingjing, drawing from her own past, attempts to persuade Bai Yongze to prioritize treatment for his long-term career and undergo psychological diagnosis. Bai Yongze is skeptical but Fang Jingjing shares her experiences. Lan Tian also urges Bai Yongze to cooperate with treatment and not blame Song Chacha.
He then reveals his plan to propose to Song Chacha if he places in the upcoming competition, further fueling Bai Yongze's desire to compete. However, Bai Yongze's condition worsens. He begins seeing black shadows in the water and fears it, leading him to seek sedatives from a doctor. Song Chacha discovers him with these sedatives, realizing they are prohibited in competition and that his condition is deteriorating. She tries to persuade him to stop taking them and accept treatment.
Bai Yongze tells her to leave him alone and be happy with Lan Tian, believing his sacrifice would lead to her happiness. Song Chacha counters that her happiness, even with Lan Tian, is intertwined with his well-being. Following this heartfelt exchange, they confess their love for each other and share a kiss, resolving to disregard external opinions. Influenced by Song Chacha, Bai Yongze decides to withdraw from the competition to focus on his recovery with Fang Jingjing.
He informs Huang Donglei, who is pleased, and clarifies to Song Chacha that he was momentarily confused and did not actually consume the prohibited drugs, or threw them up immediately. They agree to face future challenges together and and discuss when to reveal their relationship to Lan Tian. However, Lan Tian witnesses Bai Yongze and Song Chacha's intimacy, realizing their relationship. Enraged, he returns to his room and smashes everything.
Afterward, he pretends ignorance and confronts Bai Yongze, subtly trying to manipulate him by asking if his withdrawal is to support Lan Tian's proposal and to be his pacesetter, attempting to make Bai Yongze give up Song Chacha for the sake of their friendship. Bai Yongze's withdrawal sparks widespread media speculation about his health. Song Chacha actively seeks a nutritionist to support his physical recovery. Fang Jingjing begins psychological counseling, diagnosing Bai Yongze with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and believing his condition stems from unresolved childhood trauma, which Bai Yongze struggles to recall.
