Bai Yongze, known as the "Oriental Black Fish" and a formidable swimmer for the Jiexing Swimming Club, clinched the gold medal at the Los Angeles national swimming competition, triumphing over his arrogant rival, Anderson. He humbly dedicated his victory to his best friend, Lan Tian, heir to the Lan Group. After the win, Bai Yongze left with new actress Li Bao, but their interaction was secretly photographed by paparazzi Mr. Xu.
Bai Yongze confronted Mr. Xu, smashing his camera, which Mr. Xu later avenged. Lan Tian hosted a lavish party to celebrate Bai Yongze's victory. During the party, Anderson confronted Bai Yongze, insulting him as a "swimming tool" and a "dog" picked up by his parents. Enraged, Bai Yongze violently beat Anderson, making headlines. This incident, coupled with leaked photos of him and Li Bao, led to the Lan Group withdrawing their sponsorship from Jiexing Club, resulting in Bai Yongze's expulsion.
His adoptive father, Bai Father, desperately tried to beg Chairman Lan, the head of Lan Group, for a reversal. Bai Yongze stopped his father, but was deeply hurt when Bai Father retorted that a Bai Yongze who couldn't swim was useless. Meanwhile, Song Chacha, Lan Tian's former girlfriend or fiancée, faced hardship after her family's bankruptcy left them with heavy debts. While working to pay off creditors, she was trapped in a KTV by debt collectors.
She managed to escape into Bai Yongze's private KTV room. Bai Yongze, drinking alone, helped her by pretending they were kissing to deceive the pursuers and lent her his jacket to escape. Unbeknownst to Bai Yongze, his phone was in the jacket. After this, Bai Yongze sought comfort from Li Bao, who, fearing for her acting career due to their scandal, rejected him and demanded he delete all their photos. Bai Yongze then realized his phone was with Song Chacha.
Lan Tian, learning of Bai Yongze's plight, struck a deal with his father, Chairman Lan. He threatened to marry Song Chacha – which would burden Chairman Lan with Song Chacha's family debts – unless Chairman Lan agreed to re-sponsor Bai Yongze and allow Lan Tian himself to return to swimming. Chairman Lan reluctantly agreed, secretly plotting to prevent the marriage.
Lan Tian called Bai Yongze with the good news, but Song Chacha, still possessing Bai Yongze's phone, answered, causing Lan Tian to hang up in confusion. Chairman Lan then manipulated Song Chacha, telling her that Lan Tian remembered their marriage agreement and would arrive directly from the airport at their wedding as a surprise. Despite her skepticism due to Lan Tian's long absence, Song Chacha, recalling his past promise, believed Chairman Lan and prepared for the wedding.
On the wedding day, Song Chacha waited alone in her white gown, but Lan Tian never appeared. Chairman Lan feigned disappointment and left, intending for Song Chacha to resent Lan Tian and thus prevent their union. Lan Tian returned to China, hired his former Coach Huang to assemble a new swimming team, and began training with Bai Yongze. At the swimming club, Bai Yongze found Lan Tian's phone left in the locker room.
Remembering his own phone was still missing, he used Lan Tian's phone to call his own number. Song Chacha, feeling betrayed after the failed wedding, answered the call, angrily demanding to know if this was the "surprise" Lan Tian had arranged.
