Feng Wanqing tells An Lan that she shakes her phone to inflate her step count, which her mother checks daily, to prevent her from worrying about Wanqing's undisclosed illness. She hopes to tell her mother later, so she will cry less. Wanqing also expresses her fear of dying and the pain it would cause her mother, brother, and An Lan, even wondering if memories could be erased to spare them grief.
Separately, Mo Yuanzhi reviews his impressive academic credentials from Ivy Bay University in biomedical engineering, stating his resolve not to let Wanqing's family suffer. Ding Qi lists various past "loop days," explaining that RN356 could predict danger by retaining memories from these loops, much like a rehearsal before the final outcome. He reveals he has been experiencing these loops for seven years, beginning on December 24, 2017, when he repeatedly fell into a lake near Ivy Bay University.
An Lan deduces he might also be a RAN drug infectee, as each loop cycle is five days, and today is the fourth, meaning the irreversible "final outcome" is tomorrow. She asks if she will forget today's events. An Lan also mentions a lab mouse with nerve damage that regained mobility after being injected with a RAN-Y reagent, a development she hopes signifies a breakthrough.
Ding Qi then asks about RN356's death, and An Lan describes its rapid organ aging and death within a month of its tenth month of life, symptoms identical to what she had experienced herself. Ding Qi informs An Lan that in a previous loop, an explosion at the Zhao family's wedding killed many, including Mo Yuanzhi.
He insists they must uncover Moma Biotech's core secrets before midnight, linking it to the fact that Han Yufei and Tang Xin's fathers both mentioned Mo Yuanzhi's laboratory before their deaths. An Lan confirms Mo Yuanzhi has a sealed lab, but notes that according to the blueprints, its size is too small for large-scale experiments. She wants to know what he is doing there but doesn't have the access code. Ding Qi then reveals he has the password.
An Lan questions how Ding Qi obtained the lab password. He confesses to having used her, explaining that in previous loops, Yu Shiya failed to obtain an equity transaction code from Han Yufei. This time, by subtly altering An Lan's actions, he enabled Yu Shiya to succeed. A flashback reveals Yu Shiya confronting Mo Yuanzhi, who admits to texting her to check on her mother's surveillance. He then offers to end their arrangement if she provides the lab password.
Ding Qi informs An Lan that Mo Yuanzhi will be attending the Zhao family wedding that night, presenting them with their best chance. An Lan muses on the terrifying implications of such power falling into evil hands, allowing untraceable killings, "just like Squid." Ding Qi then directly asks An Lan for her help, emphasizing their limited time. The Zhao family wedding commences, and Yu Shiya and Han Yufei make a late entrance.
During the wedding, Mo Yuanzhi asks An Lan if the day his mother had an accident was a loop day, to which An Lan replies she wishes it was. An Lan also asks Mo Yuanzhi about the lifespan of a normal lab mouse compared to RN356. Meanwhile, Ding Qi and An Lan drive rapidly to the laboratory, infiltrate it, and discover an image of Squid, identical to those sent by the killer, confirming it as Squid's hideout.
They find numerous experiment reports, a marked "loop day" chart, and Ding Qi's attention is drawn to the prominent number "28." An Lan, realizing the implications, whispers, "Mo Yuanzhi is Squid," and wonders if the secrets mentioned by Han Song and Tang Shaorong before their deaths are truly located here. The wedding concludes with a tipsy Yu Shiya apologizing to Mo Yuanzhi, her thoughts drifting to their own marriage.
Inside the lab, An Lan discovers research on primary spinal cord cancers and cell proliferation caused by genetic mutations, realizing this condition directly relates to Wanqing. She then shares her observation with Ding Qi that the lab's layout differs from the blueprints; the current square space suggests a larger, rectangular area is missing, leading her to believe there's a hidden compartment.
An Lan then notices a painting on the wall, recalling it from a video call with Wanqing, and upon touching it, a secret door opens. Inside, she finds a large nitrogen tank, concluding its size and volume could preserve a human. Confirming her suspicion, she finds Wanqing's frozen body inside and calls out her name in distress. The news of Ding Qi and An Lan's intrusion reaches Mo Yuanzhi's phone.
He immediately shuts down the lab's system, causing gas to be released, trapping them. An Lan notices the gas, and Ding Qi reassures her, saying, "An Lan, trust me. No matter what happens, in a minute, everything will start over. This is not the final ending. Trust me." As an explosion becomes imminent, An Lan spontaneously kisses Ding Qi. The "Fifth Loop" day dawns. Ding Qi experiences a sudden, inexplicable heart pain, a premonition of danger.
He attempts to contact An Lan but cannot reach her. Meanwhile, Mo Yuanzhi leaves early in the morning, instructing Yu Shiya to cease following him, contacting her private detective, or plotting with Han Yufei, and simply to embrace her role as Mrs. Mo. Ding Qi, recalling the previous loop, realizes that Mo Yuanzhi must have become aware of their secret and likely targeted An Lan.
Indeed, Mo Yuanzhi had already given the order to Ye Kun to "do it," implying an attack on An Lan. In the lab, An Lan regains consciousness. She notices a previously paralyzed lab mouse now active, a sign of the RAN-Y reagent's effect. Ding Qi calls her urgently, warning her that she is in great danger and must leave the lab immediately, explaining that Mo Yuanzhi is Squid and is likely coming for her.
While on the phone, An Lan quickly copies critical data and videos. Ding Qi instructs her to avoid driving, instead using the basement and escalator to meet him outside. After completing her task, An Lan heads towards the underground parking lot. She hears Mo Yuanzhi's approaching footsteps and quickly ducks into a fire escape, narrowly avoiding detection. Ding Qi rushes to the company, where they finally meet safely and embrace.
Back at the lab, Mo Yuanzhi discovers An Lan's absence and, enraged, proceeds to his secret laboratory. There, he looks at the unconscious Feng Wanqing, his mind flashing back to a past conversation with her. In this flashback, Wanqing, recognizing Mo Yuanzhi's exhaustion from his relentless research into a risky experimental drug, wants to try it, believing she has nothing left to lose.
Mo Yuanzhi forbids it, emphasizing the drug's dangers and her already fragile health, pleading for more time to find a safer solution. Wanqing expresses her deep anguish at seeing him suffer and her fear of losing him, insisting that trying the drug is the last thing she can do for him, even if it only provides clinical data. Mo Yuanzhi, however, dismisses the value of any data if it means losing her.
Despite his pleas, Wanqing is resolute, and he tries to comfort her as she cries. He has been tirelessly experimenting to cure his beloved Wanqing, but his looping ability has ultimately failed to heal her.
