As college entrance examination results were released, Nan Xi achieved an outstanding score of 697, leading his friends to joke about him taking over Binhai University. Xia Rui, the last to check, anxiously learned her score was 449, just one point below the typical admission score for Binhai Education University.

Nan Xi was even more distraught than Xia Rui, especially when she revealed a promise made to her mother, Shao Zong: if she failed to get into a university in Binhai, she would be sent abroad. Fearing separation, Nan Xi reassured a panicked Xia Rui, asking her to trust him so they could find a way to stay together. Xia Rui discussed her options with her mother, who noted her decent English score and suggested applying to overseas universities.

However, Xia Rui asked for three days to present an alternative plan, a request her mother reluctantly granted. During these three days, Xia Rui and Nan Xi meticulously prepared their proposal, with Nan Xi teasing her about the complexity of the plan and how he never imagined telling her to "shut up." Dressed formally for the presentation, Nan Xi and Xia Rui faced her family.

Their serious attire, combined with her grandmother calling Nan Xi a "good little boyfriend" and her cousin wondering if he was there to propose, made Shao Zong anxious. Nan Xi opened by stating his disagreement with sending Xia Rui abroad and began a passionate speech about his deep bond with her, declaring his intention to be responsible for her future. Shao Zong, flustered, misinterpreted his words as a premature marriage proposal from two eighteen-year-olds.

To clarify the misunderstanding, Xia Rui presented their "career proposal." While Shao Zong cynically examined it, asking if they were trying to "sell her daughter," the two explained their plan. They proposed Binhai Business School's hotel management program, which was a top-ranked local option. Nan Xi pointed out that based on statistical conversions, Xia Rui's score of 449 was likely sufficient for admission. Xia Rui argued that studying locally was safer and more convenient for supervision.

She also highlighted a nearby acclaimed café, a hub for national barista competitions, where she could gain valuable experience for her passion in coffee-making. She insisted her goal was to build confidence and skills locally, not to escape failure. Meanwhile, her grandfather, impressed with Nan Xi, privately vowed to support their relationship to Shao Zong. Despite their thorough plan, Shao Zong worried about Xia Rui's over-reliance on Nan Xi, questioning if she could be responsible for her own life.

Nan Xi countered, declaring that Xia Rui was not alone and that they were mutually dependent. He explained that without her, he wouldn't have navigated high school successfully, and vowed they would always be together, never to be separated again. His sincerity began to sway Shao Zong. Later, the friends learned that the Bird Tea Cafe was closing.

The owner, Lao Yi, had left to pursue Coach Yang, who was moving to another province, leaving Xia Rui a parting gift of rare coffee beans. As Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Meishu helped clean the cafe, they reminisced. Unseen by Xia Rui, a sticky note she peeled off a board contained a heartfelt confession from Nan Xi.

In it, he had written that his words to her mother were the sincere truth—he wanted to be with her forever, not just as a friend, but to hold her hand and grow old with her.
