Meeting You Recap

Episode 1 Recap

Nan Xi, a solitary boy in a white shirt and baseball cap, prepares for his first day back at school. His mother, speaking on the phone, mentions that a doctor confirmed his mental and emotional health is recovering well, and Nan Xi himself is happy to return to school despite the suddenness of the decision. She also speaks to Nan Xi's father, who is currently working on a European project. In contrast to Nan Xi, Xia Rui's morning is bustling.

She rushes through breakfast, playfully bickering with her grandparents, who lovingly send her off to school. At the school gate, with help from Lin Xiaoxiao and Cheng Erluo, Xia Rui attempts to avoid the strict Mr. Hu. However, while evading the director, she bumps directly into Nan Xi. Xia Rui apologizes and expresses concern, but Nan Xi's detached demeanor leaves a strange and curious first impression on her.

Before hurrying off, Xia Rui leaves her schoolbag with Mr. Yi, the owner of a nearby coffee shop. Mr. Hu, having just been promoted to director, immediately displays his strictness. He intercepts Nan Xi at the gate, ordering him to remove his hat, but lets him go after confirming his name. Moments later, he confronts Xia Rui for being late.

She claims she had a stomachache and was looking for the restroom, using the fact she didn't have her schoolbag to imply she was already at school. However, Mr. Hu sees through her lie, telling her to retrieve her bag and prepare an 800-word apology letter to be read during the flag-raising ceremony. Xia Rui expresses frustration that Nan Xi, who was also late, was not punished like her.

Coincidentally, Nan Xi is transferred into her class, and his impressive family background—his father a famous architect and his mother a bank vice president—quickly becomes the top gossip among students. Mr. Hu formally introduces Nan Xi, who remains silent when asked to introduce himself and quietly takes his seat. Mr. Hu then reminds Xia Rui to finish her apology letter. Determined to achieve "equality," Xia Rui uses her public apology to expose Nan Xi.

She brazenly states that Nan Xi was also late, calling for collective supervision of both their reflections. Her speech leaves the other students stunned by her boldness. Later, Cheng Erluo approaches Nan Xi, introducing himself as a basketball team guard and inviting him to play, but Nan Xi simply replies, "Sorry," and walks away.

Xia Rui then attempts to apologize to Nan Xi for embarrassing him, but his silent refusal infuriates her, leading her to accuse him of looking down on her because of his privileged background. In class, a teacher presents a difficult problem. Hoping to see him embarrassed, Xia Rui suggests Nan Xi attempt it. The teacher invites Nan Xi to the board, and he easily solves the complex question, leaving Xia Rui stunned as her classmates applaud.

After class, Xia Rui rushes to Mr. Yi's coffee shop. With her exceptionally sensitive palate, she immediately identifies notes of wine and plums in a new coffee, correctly tracing the flavor to sun-dried beans from Santa Clara, Panama. Impressed, Mr. Yi offers free drinks to Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu, upholding their long-standing deal. He praises her unique talent and offers to teach her coffee-making.

Meanwhile, other students gossip about Nan Xi's alleged IQ of over 140 and Mensa membership, remarking on his reclusive nature. Nan Xi returns to an empty home. His mother greets him briefly before informing him that she is departing for an international conference and will be gone for several days, having arranged for a housekeeper, Sis Liu, to look after him. Nan Xi observes her departure on a surveillance camera, his indifferent expression revealing he is accustomed to such solitude.

On the second day of school, during an English quiz, Nan Xi finishes effortlessly. To avoid being late, Xia Rui had skipped breakfast and now fakes a stomachache to get permission to leave the exam. She climbs over the school wall to eat a takeaway meal and, while climbing back, loses her footing and falls directly onto Nan Xi, who was sitting beneath a camphor tree.

The close contact allows Nan Xi to notice a whale-themed wooden carving around her neck, an object that seems deeply important to him. He startles her by grabbing her arm to get a closer look. Annoyed, Xia Rui tries to pull away and accidentally swings her arm back, punching the approaching Mr. Hu in the face. As punishment, Mr. Hu assigns Xia Rui to clean the school swimming pool for two weeks.

She is further annoyed to overhear Mr. Hu appointing Nan Xi as the English subject representative. Later, while begrudgingly cleaning the dark, empty pool area, Xia Rui is startled by a noise. To her surprise, Nan Xi appears and offers to help. Initiating a conversation for the first time, he asks about the whale pendant. As he reaches to examine it, they both lose their balance and fall into the pool.

Underwater, Nan Xi experiences a vivid flashback to his childhood, recalling the sound of a "baby whale singing" and the memory of giving the same pendant to a little girl. Xia Rui, seeing Nan Xi unconscious, prepares to administer artificial respiration. However, just as her lips are about to touch his, Nan Xi awakens, and their eyes meet. Startled and embarrassed, Xia Rui flees. Nan Xi follows her to the classroom and silently hands her a set of dry clothes from his bag, a gesture that reveals her unique significance to him.

Episode 2 Recap

Nan Xi reluctantly stepped onto the podium to distribute exam papers, enduring his discomfort for Xia Rui's sake despite having no desire to be the class representative. Mr. Hu then announced that Nan Xi would be the English subject representative, an offer Nan Xi accepted on one condition: that Xia Rui be appointed his vice representative. This arrangement surprised Xia Rui and the rest of the class. Later, Nan Xi approached Xia Rui as she dozed at her desk.

He gently lifted her fringe, revealing a scar on her left forehead. Nan Xi vividly recalled how his childhood friend had gotten a scar on her forehead from stitches after a fight. Seeing it on Xia Rui confirmed his long-held suspicion: he had finally found his "Little Bells" from all those years ago.

At Mr. Yi's coffee shop, Xia Rui complained incessantly about Nan Xi, much to the amusement of Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo, who jokingly felt "out of favor." Xia Rui recounted her mortification at being seen by Nan Xi while napping, convinced that nothing had gone right since he arrived. Before leaving, Xia Rui learned some coffee basics from Mr. Yi and left him her QQ number.

When Nan Xi entered, Xia Rui tried to avoid him, but he spotted the note with her number. Immediately after, he changed his QQ ID to 'X' and sent her a friend request. Xia Rui then went to her mother's house, where Mr. Hu was visiting. She was dismayed to learn her mother, whom she formally calls Madam Shao, had arranged for an English tutor and was secretly planning to send her to study abroad.

The tense lunch escalated into a heated argument, reinforcing that Xia Rui's choice to live with her grandparents was to escape her mother's overbearing control. Meanwhile, Nan Xi had a session with his psychiatrist, Aunt Lin, who noted his improved mood and acceptance of his new school. Aunt Lin explained to his mother that Nan Xi's social phobia stemmed from a lack of parental companionship and overprotection, and that the incident at his previous school was a minor conflict.

She acknowledged that her help was limited as long as Nan Xi remained in his comfort zone and advised giving him more time. That evening, Xia Rui saw the friend request from 'X' and, mistaking it for Mr. Yi, accepted. " X" (Nan Xi) asked about her opinion of him and suggested they become best friends, an idea she bluntly rejected.

Moments later, a defiant Xia Rui took a call from her mother and rashly promised to score above 90 on the English exam in two weeks. Spurred by this impossible challenge, she shocked her friends by arriving at school forty minutes early the next day to study. Upon arriving, Nan Xi presented Xia Rui with a small wooden box. Later, during lunch, Nan Xi accidentally bumped into Yang Yufei, ruining her clothes.

He reached into his bag before taking off his own school uniform and offering it to her. While Yang Yufei was captivated, Cheng Erluo witnessed the exchange and reported the "breaking news" to Xia Rui, causing her opinion of Nan Xi to plummet further. During class, when a sleepy Xia Rui was called on to read, Nan Xi discreetly dropped his book to point out the correct passage for her. Afterward, Xia Rui complained that long English words were hard to memorize without pictures. Nan Xi took note, planning to create illustrated vocabulary guides to help her.

Episode 3 Recap

Connected to the previous episode, Nan Xi has been secretly helping Xia Rui, even arranging for her to become the English representative. One morning, Xia Rui, filled with an unusual surge of energy, arrives at class early to study. Upon opening her drawer, she discovers a set of meticulously tailored monthly exam key points.

Believing it to be Zhao Yishu’s work, Xia Rui joyfully embraces her, offering to treat her to movies, an amusement park, or dinner after the exam, and even playfully offering herself if those options aren't appealing. Zhao Yishu, bewildered, clarifies that the study guide is not from her. Mr. Hu then enters, collecting English homework, and compliments Nan Xi on his neat handwriting.

After some discussion, Zhao Yishu notes that the study guide is exceptionally well-made, with compositions using simple words perfectly suited for Xia Rui. She speculates it might be from a top student acting out of pity, like "giving alms to the handicapped." After Cheng Erluo briefly interrupts, their investigation leads them to a conclusion: only someone with free time, who knows Xia Rui's academic level, and doesn't need to take the exam could create such materials.

Xia Rui declares it must be their teacher, Mr. Hu, with Zhao Yishu jokingly suggesting a "secret negotiation" between him and Xia Rui's mother, Madam Shao. Bolstered by the tailored review materials, Xia Rui feels confident for the upcoming exam, determined to score over ninety to prove herself to Mr. Hu and her mother. In the exam room, Xia Rui is surprised to find Nan Xi seated in front of her.

After realizing she forgot her eraser, Nan Xi lends her his, which helps her finish her paper just in time. After the exam, as Xia Rui thanks Nan Xi and returns his eraser, Yang Yufei approaches. She returns a set of clothes to Nan Xi and offers him her favorite book, expressing her hope that they can be in the honors class together after the grades are re-divided. Nan Xi accepts the clothes but not the book.

This interaction attracts the attention of Liu Bin, a senior who considers Yang Yufei his future girlfriend. He confronts Nan Xi, warning him to stay away from her. Xia Rui quickly steps in, asserting that since Nan Xi is her classmate, his affairs are her concern, while Liu Bin's are not. As Nan Xi and Xia Rui walk away, he appears distressed and struggles to breathe. Noticing her shoelace is untied, he kneels to tie it for her.

The awkward proximity causes Xia Rui to flee in embarrassment. When the exam results are announced, Mr. Hu praises Nan Xi for his high score and then commends Xia Rui for making the most progress, earning her a round of applause. Thrilled, Xia Rui later finds Mr. Hu and tearfully thanks him for secretly providing her with the study guides. A stunned Mr. Hu denies everything, stating that would be cheating and that he treats all students equally.

He reminds her that she is still two points short of her ninety-point goal, leaving her to face her mother. Utterly mortified, Xia Rui laments the "stain" on her life. At Mr. Yi’s shop, Xia Rui complains to Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo about her embarrassing mistake. The conversation turns to a book that "X," a contact on QQ, had recommended to her.

Xia Rui had assumed "X" was Mr. Yi, but he denies it, revealing he doesn't even have a QQ account. They realize "X" is the first letter of Nan Xi's name, concluding he must be the one who contacted her. The friends then discuss Nan Xi’s strange behavior.

They reveal to Xia Rui that Nan Xi has social phobia and transferred from his previous school after an incident where a new deskmate misinterpreted his need for personal space as a slight. The student cornered and harassed Nan Xi, causing him to have a panic attack. Shocked, Xia Rui recalls Nan Xi's odd behavior and asks if his "physical contact disability" is just a ruse to flirt, referencing the recent shoelace-tying incident.

They connect the dots: Nan Xi was present when Xia Rui mentioned her reading disorder, which explains why the study guide was so simple and visual. Recalling the small wooden box Nan Xi had given her, Xia Rui discovers it is missing from her desk, along with the study guide. Just then, Zhao Yishu produces the guide, revealing she had taken it to compare the handwriting with Nan Xi's.

The handwriting is a perfect match, confirming Nan Xi is the secret helper. Xia Rui arranges to meet Nan Xi and confronts him, asking why he pretended to be Mr. Yi and why he helped her. She also accuses him of faking his physical contact issues to flirt. Instead of answering, Nan Xi offers her a new wooden box, saying he made it because he heard she couldn't find the old one.

Upset that he would take things from her desk, Xia Rui pushes the box away, and it shatters on the ground. From the broken box, a delicate whale carving and a childhood drawing spill out. Nan Xi explains their childhood secret: the silent wood of the box represented him ("Xiaomutou" - little piece of wood), and the tiny bell inside represented the talkative her ("Xiaolingdang" - little bell).

Xia Rui suddenly remembers getting stitches on her forehead as a child from a fight to protect the original whale carving. Nan Xi recalls his childhood promise to make her a new one if she ever lost it, telling her she should never have to fight and that he would protect her. Tears filling her eyes, Xia Rui takes out the old, eyeless whale carving she wears around her neck and compares it to the new one. Nan Xi looks at her and says, "Xiaomutou, Xiaolingdang, I found you."

Episode 4 Recap

As a child, Nan Xi, then known as Xiaomutou, was punished for fighting back against bullies and being unable to explain himself. While being made to stand in the hallway, he met Xia Rui, his Xiaolingdang, who shared his sentiment that adults only listen to obedient children. To comfort him, Xia Rui told him a story about a brave baby whale named Xiaohui who got lost because its song was unique.

She then bravely retrieved his toys, asserting her role as his protector and promising him that the Rui in Chenghua School would be an even better protector than the Xiaolingdang in Xin Hua Kindergarten. Years later, Xia Rui instinctively stood in front of Nan Xi, ready to protect him. However, she found he had grown so tall she had to tiptoe to playfully touch his head.

Seeing her outstretched hand, Nan Xi subtly lowered his head, then took off his hat and knelt down, allowing her to pat his head just like when they were children. Xia Rui then placed the new whale carving Nan Xi had made for her around his neck, a symbol of their rekindled bond. They pledged to each other that neither would suddenly disappear again, promising that together they would face anything without fear.

Xia Rui playfully warned him not to get emotional, joking that she didn't want to lose face by crying too often. At Xia Rui’s casual remark that he looked better without his hat, Nan Xi took it off, revealing his handsome face to the class for the first time. This caused a stir among the students, with both girls and boys marveling at his appearance.

Nan Xi's sudden openness and his connection with Xia Rui didn't escape the notice of their friends, Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo. Prompted by their questions, Xia Rui invited them to a coffee shop after school and revealed that she and Nan Xi had known each other since kindergarten. Cheng Erluo expressed disbelief and joked that Nan Xi, who appeared like a Prince Charming, seemed to have an intense personality.

Despite Nan Xi's impressive academic abilities, evidenced by his amazing exam summary, his reserved nature created a rift. He declined Cheng Erluo's enthusiastic invitation to watch the latest EVA anime, making Cheng Erluo feel excluded and lament that a fourth person had suddenly disrupted their long-standing trio. Previously, Nan Xi had discussed Xia Rui’s academic struggles with their teacher, Mr. Hu.

Noting Nan Xi's own progress and willingness to help, Mr. Hu suggested to Xia Rui’s mother, Madam Shao, that Nan Xi tutor Xia Rui one-on-one instead of sending her to a cram school. Madam Shao, initially skeptical, agreed to the arrangement but on the condition that Xia Rui's score must reach one hundred on her next test.

Although Xia Rui was frustrated that her life seemed to revolve solely around grades, Nan Xi, despite warning her of his strict approach, reassured her he would help. The next morning, Cheng Erluo excitedly invited Xia Rui and Zhao Yishu to watch the newly downloaded EVA movie on Saturday, and Xia Rui, forgetting her tutoring commitment, readily agreed.

Soon after, it was announced that Mr. Hu would be absent due to an emergency, turning the first grammar class into a self-study session. Mr. Hu tasked Nan Xi with providing answers for cloze passages and collecting questions. When Cheng Erluo tried to convince Xia Rui to skip the session and play basketball, she refused. Taking her role as a subject representative seriously, she actively maintained order in the classroom, much to Cheng Erluo's annoyance.

At lunch, Xia Rui again declined Cheng Erluo's plans, choosing to buy reference books with Nan Xi instead. Feeling increasingly abandoned, Cheng Erluo complained to their friend Mr. Yi at the coffee shop, dismayed that Xia Rui was prioritizing Nan Xi and using her subject representative title as an excuse.

Zhao Yishu defended Xia Rui, explaining she was worried Nan Xi couldn't handle the class alone and was just adhering to school rules, but Cheng Erluo remained unconvinced, feeling Xia Rui's generosity extended only to Nan Xi. He decided to confront her when they were supposed to watch the anime on Saturday. On Saturday, Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu waited for Xia Rui, only to be stood up.

Furious, Cheng Erluo found Nan Xi's address from Mr. Hu's office files and stormed over with Zhao Yishu to confront her. Unaware of their impending arrival, Xia Rui was at Nan Xi's house for their first tutoring session. Feeling tired, she leaned on Nan Xi's shoulder and fell asleep. Nan Xi, despite his arm growing sore, remained still to avoid disturbing her. This tender moment was what Cheng Erluo witnessed through the window, further fueling his anger.

Barging in, Cheng Erluo accused Xia Rui of ditching them to do homework with Nan Xi and demanded to know how many times she had stood them up since reconnecting with him. Xia Rui apologized, but Cheng Erluo, feeling their friendship was threatened, childishly demanded she choose between them, referencing an old "either-or happiness" game.

Xia Rui reminded him of how she had stood up for him when he was a chubby new transfer student being bullied in third grade, which was how their trio was formed. She urged him to be mature, asserting that Nan Xi was not a bully and that she knew him well. When she refused to make a choice, a defeated Cheng Erluo left angrily with Zhao Yishu. Xia Rui found his behavior childish but felt concerned, while Nan Xi remained silent, unable to comprehend the complex emotions behind the conflict.

Episode 5 Recap

On the school basketball court, a basketball struck Zhao Yishu on the head. The culprit, Li Da, not only failed to apologize but arrogantly blamed Zhao Yishu for not paying attention, which infuriated Cheng Erluo. Under the coach's intervention, Li Da reluctantly offered an apology. He then provoked Cheng Erluo, proposing a basketball match between his Class 15 and Cheng Erluo's Class 9, which Cheng Erluo accepted. Leading up to the match, Class 9 rallied to support Cheng Erluo.

Xia Rui reassured Nan Xi not to take Cheng Erluo’s pointed comments about unsupportive students personally, attributing it to his childish anger. Cheng Erluo later approached Nan Xi, clarifying that he wasn't upset with him. During the first half of the match, Cheng Erluo struggled to close the score gap against Li Da and consistently missed his free throws. By halftime, Class 9 was trailing by nine points, leaving Cheng Erluo disheartened.

Zhao Yishu reminded him of his childhood as "Chubby Cheng"—a plump boy who, despite being bullied, never gave up on his love for basketball. She admired his perseverance and hated to see him admit defeat. Nan Xi, who rarely joined class activities, quietly arrived at the basketball court, motivated by his desire for Xia Rui to see her friend win. Overcoming his usual aversion to crowds, Nan Xi devised a strategy.

He passed a note to Xia Rui, who relayed it to Cheng Erluo, detailing how to correct his inaccurate free throws by leaning two degrees to the right to counteract his habitual left lean. He also pointed out that Li Da's shooting was weak from the zero-to-thirty-degree angle. Equipped with Nan Xi’s precise guidance, Cheng Erluo clinched the victory in the final moments of the game.

Amidst the cheers of Class 9, Cheng Erluo confronted Li Da, demanding a proper apology to Zhao Yishu, which Li Da grudgingly gave. After the game, Cheng Erluo expressed immense gratitude and admiration for Nan Xi, declaring them "brothers." However, when Cheng Erluo moved closer, Nan Xi recoiled due to his discomfort with physical proximity, prompting Cheng Erluo to quickly back away and promise to respect his space.

Xia Rui commended Nan Xi for bravely taking a first step by helping. When Cheng Erluo offered a reward, Nan Xi declined, instead asking Xia Rui to come to his house after school. Later, while Xia Rui went to Nan Xi's home for tutoring, Zhao Yishu accompanied Cheng Erluo.

Still impressed by Nan Xi’s abilities, Cheng Erluo mused about Nan Xi's "special ability" to make Xia Rui fall asleep on his shoulder and naively asked Zhao Yishu if she felt sleepy around him. The question caused Zhao Yishu to blush, but Cheng Erluo remained oblivious to her growing feelings. He continued to admire Nan Xi, describing him as "silent, but loud," like a lead from an idol drama. Meanwhile, Nan Xi tutored Xia Rui.

Even though she only solved one problem correctly, he had a reward for her. He led her to his room and revealed a box filled with birthday gifts he had prepared for her over the years, each labeled with the date "December 31st." Overwhelmed and feeling guilty for not having anything for him, Xia Rui earnestly promised to grant him one wish, sealing it with a pinky promise.

In this moment with her, Nan Xi smiled, feeling a rare sense of relaxation. When the new exam results were posted, Nan Xi’s ranking as first in the entire school brought immense pride to Class 9. However, Yufei from Class 1 was confident that Nan Xi would be transferred to her elite class. Nan Xi expressed his desire to stay in Class 9 to his teacher, Mr. Hu, explaining he was happy and had friends there.

Mr. Hu clarified that as an arts and sports-focused class, Class 9's curriculum, especially in Grade 3, would become self-study based and detrimental to Nan Xi’s academic path for the standard college entrance exams. Despite secretly hoping Nan Xi would stay, Xia Rui feigned indifference, acting as if his departure was a given and casually enjoying snacks given to Nan Xi by his admirers. Her behavior deeply distressed and angered Nan Xi.

Later, Mr. Hu gave Nan Xi two application forms: one for a class transfer and one for the art exam, both requiring a parental signature. His parents' approval was the greatest obstacle to his wish to remain. He confided in Cheng Erluo about the art exam application, asking him not to tell Xia Rui.

Episode 6 Recap

Xia Rui passionately declared her belief in Nan Xi's natural talent for design, pointing to his unique creations like a little bell, a gift box, and various works in his studio as proof. She enthusiastically envisioned him as a dazzling, unique independent designer and herself as his proud assistant. Nan Xi, though initially undecided about his future, was clearly touched by her unwavering support and encouraged her to pursue her own passions as well.

Despite the high level of difficulty, Xia Rui promised to accompany him in finding his path. She jokingly suggested her whole life could be "wasted" on him, a sentiment Nan Xi readily accepted, referencing a saying about "good brothers for a lifetime." Later, at the library, Nan Xi was looking for architecture books when Yang Yufei approached him, congratulating him on surpassing her for first place in the recent monthly exam.

Her friend who was with her acted dismissively towards Nan Xi. Yang Yufei then noticed the book title "Discover Dreams Through Architecture" on Nan Xi's computer screen. She later gave a copy of the book to Xia Rui, asking her to pass it to Nan Xi and claiming she "unintentionally found out" he needed it. Inside, Xia Rui discovered a bookmark with a romantic message.

During class, as Nan Xi looked at the book, their teacher, Mr. Hu, saw them and confiscated it. Xia Rui immediately claimed ownership to protect Nan Xi, but Mr. Hu noted the refined penmanship wasn't hers. He sternly warned both of them about the serious implications of "puppy love" and vowed to investigate, especially after Nan Xi stated the book was not his and he didn't know who left it.

Outside the classroom, Xia Rui expressed her frustration, acknowledging the rumors that would spread about Nan Xi, the grade's top student. She initially feigned nonchalance about Yang Yufei's interest and Nan Xi's potential transfer to Class One, even pretending to be proud that her friend attracted the "campus belle." However, her true feelings surfaced as she accused Nan Xi of favoring Yang Yufei's book and questioned his honesty when he claimed he didn't know who sent it.

When he asked why she took the blame, she unconvincingly called it a "conditioned reflex." Unable to reveal his secret plans, Nan Xi couldn't explain his recent behavior, leading to a rift between them. Xia Rui later confessed to Zhao Yishu at Boss Yi's cafe that she kept talking about Nan Xi's transfer as a way to "numb" herself to what she felt was an inevitable reality.

Unbeknownst to Xia Rui, Nan Xi was secretly working to stay in Class Nine with Cheng Erluo's help. Cheng Erluo created a distraction for the reception office attendant by feigning grief over his grandpa's passing, whom he claimed looked just like the attendant. This act allowed Nan Xi to intercept a package from his mother and swap her application for him to join Class One with an application to transfer to the art class.

After their successful mission, Nan Xi and Cheng Erluo's friendship was solidified. When Mr. Hu received the art class transfer application, he noticed the envelope had been sealed twice, indicating it had been tampered with. Having already spoken with Nan Xi's mother, who wanted her son in Class One, Mr. Hu suspected something was amiss. However, he chose to respect Nan Xi's decision, accepting the signed form and understanding how difficult it was for Nan Xi to form close connections.

Meanwhile, Liu Bin from Grade 3, mistakenly believing Nan Xi was trying to steal Yang Yufei from him, plotted to ambush him at the library. When Liu Bin and his friends encountered Xia Rui and Zhao Yishu, he challenged Nan Xi through Xia Rui, daring him to show up or "voluntarily disappear from Yang Yufei's life."

Infuriated by Liu Bin's arrogance and protective of her friend, Xia Rui accepted the challenge herself, setting a time and place for a confrontation at Boss Yi's cafe. After class, Nan Xi learned about the situation from a distressed Zhao Yishu. Without hesitation, Nan Xi rushed to the scene. On the way, he overheard classmates discussing how badly Liu Bin had been "beaten up."

Fearing Xia Rui was in a real fight, he burst into the cafe, only to find Coach Yang, the formidable basketball coach whom Xia Rui calls her "Plus version," overseeing Liu Bin performing frog jumps while Xia Rui calmly recorded the scene. It was revealed that Xia Rui and Liu Bin's "confrontation" was a series of fiercely competitive arcade games, which Liu Bin lost. Coach Yang's presence was part of a tactic arranged by Xia Rui and Boss Yi.

Upon seeing Cheng Erluo arrive, Coach Yang promptly roped him into the frog-jumping exercise as well. Cheng Erluo then learned from Liu Bin that Coach Yang is Yang Yufei's young aunt, which is why Liu Bin dared not disobey her. Liu Bin then showed a sense of honor, insisting on taking the full punishment himself because one should answer for their own actions.

For breaking things in the cafe during his gaming rage, Liu Bin had to apologize to Boss Yi and commit to working for free for a week. After the commotion, Zhao Yishu helped a hobbling Cheng Erluo, whose knee was already bruised from a basketball game, head home. Xia Rui then took Nan Xi to a street-side skewer stall. Nan Xi admitted it was his first time ever trying skewers.

As they ate, Nan Xi confronted Xia Rui about fighting Liu Bin for his sake. She downplayed it, but he reminded her of the seriousness of the situation, making her promise to always tell him if anything happened. He then revealed his secret: he was not transferring. He was preparing for the art exam to ensure he could stay in Class Nine, which explained his recent secretive behavior with Cheng Erluo.

Xia Rui admitted she had been "testing" him by constantly mentioning the transfer, and she was relieved he "passed." When she spoke of "continuing to be together," Nan Xi corrected her with a heartfelt promise: "We will always be together." Their moment was interrupted by Aunt Lin, who recognized Nan Xi. Nan Xi introduced Xia Rui as his classmate. Aunt Lin's daughter, Meng Shiran, was also there. After they left, Nan Xi explained that Aunt Lin is his mother's friend.

Xia Rui then pieced together the "confusing connection": Aunt Lin is Meng Shiran's mother, and Meng Shiran is Yang Yufei's best friend. Nan Xi quickly reassured a concerned Xia Rui, stating firmly that he didn't like Yang Yufei and declared, "I only have you as my only friend."

Episode 7 Recap

After Xia Rui witnessed Liu Bin working diligently at a coffee shop, she realized he wasn't a bad person. His loyalty, particularly his willingness to take responsibility to spare his friends from punishment, impressed her. Resolving their past conflict, Xia Rui suggested they get to know each other, believing a new friend is better than a new enemy. Liu Bin accepted, and they humorously began calling each other "Brother Rui" and "Brother Bin," marking their unexpected friendship.

Meanwhile, the announcement of a school sports meet excited Class Nine. A side story developed when Yang Yufei, selected for a research program at the Provincial Art Museum, recommended Nan Xi for the second spot. Nan Xi declined, explaining he disliked crowds, and insisted on paying her fifty yuan for a book she had gifted him. Yang Yufei's friend, Meng Shiran, was often more upset by these rejections than Yang Yufei herself.

While comforting her friend, Meng Shiran revealed that Nan Xi was a patient of her mother, a psychiatrist. This conversation was overheard by Li Da, who immediately twisted the information into a rumor that Nan Xi had a mental illness. Later, as Nan Xi, Xia Rui, and Zhao Yishu watched Cheng Erluo play basketball, Li Da, still bitter about a previous loss, loudly taunted Nan Xi, calling him mentally ill.

He publicly revealed that Nan Xi had seen a psychiatrist and dropped out of his former school because he couldn't cope, connecting it all to Meng Shiran's mother. Deeply hurt by the public exposure of his private struggles, Nan Xi fled. Xia Rui chased after him, promising to always protect him and reminding him he was no longer alone, with friends like her, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu.

She reassured him that what happened at his old school would not be repeated. As the rumors spread throughout the school, Nan Xi was met with constant whispers and stares. Xia Rui and Cheng Erluo consistently shielded him from the scrutiny. During a class discussion about the rumors, the students' chatter became overwhelming for Nan Xi. Seeing his distress, Xia Rui placed her headphones over his ears, playing her own English recordings to block out the noise.

In class, Mr. Hu taught a lesson on the destructive nature of rumors. Spurred by the lesson and his classmates’ mixed reactions—some admitting they couldn't understand him because he was so withdrawn—Nan Xi made a brave decision. He stood up and openly explained that he had social anxiety disorder and was in treatment, expressing his willingness to let his classmates get to know him.

Determined to help, Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu researched treatments and decided on exposure therapy—gradually helping Nan Xi acclimate to social situations. The next day, Cheng Erluo walked to school with Nan Xi, talking nonstop, and in class, students gathered around him as planned. Though Nan Xi appeared calm, Cheng Erluo noticed he was wearing headphones, using them as a barrier. Still, his willingness to be physically near others was a major step.

To clarify the situation, the school had Meng Shiran's mother, Doctor Lin, speak with those involved. In a conversation with Xia Rui and the friends, Dr. Lin expressed her astonishment at Nan Xi's progress, noting it was rare for someone with social anxiety to voluntarily disclose their condition. She praised his bravery, citing his public rejection of Yang Yufei and his recent classroom confession.

She also revealed that Nan Xi had once rushed through a crowded street, conquering his fear, to protect Xia Rui when he thought she was in danger. Dr. Lin affirmed that Xia Rui's friendship was the most effective "medicine" for Nan Xi, helping him step out of his isolated world. In the following days, Nan Xi’s condition improved significantly. Once solitary, he began eating meals with Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu.

Though still quiet, he no longer shied away from social contact, and the bond between the friends grew stronger. Xia Rui continued to encourage him, reminding him to smile and let go of his guard.

Episode 8 Recap

Following Mr. Hu's announcement that the rumors about Nan Xi have ceased, he turns the class's attention to the upcoming sports meeting. However, Nan Xi has lost his registration form. With strict new rules this year requiring student IDs on each unique form to prevent past registration issues caused by Class Eight, losing the form means he cannot participate. Cheng Erluo suggests that Nan Xi act as Class Nine's "adviser" instead, analyzing the events from the sidelines.

On the day of the sports meeting, Nan Xi meticulously records data for Class Nine, calculating their odds in the fierce rivalry against Class Fifteen. He determines that despite losing points in the high jump, a well-placed cheerleading speech could make up the difference. Meanwhile, Xia Rui competes in the shotput. After Cheng Erluo's clumsy attempts to help her warm up, she proves her strength with an impressive 8. 3-meter throw, securing a vital score for her class.

However, she overexerts herself and slightly sprains her waist. Nan Xi immediately rushes to the medical room to care for her, bringing her an apple. Their moment is interrupted when a frantic Cheng Erluo arrives with shocking news: Nan Xi is registered to run the final leg of the 4x100m relay, replacing another student.

A check of the official list confirms his name is on a registration form, meaning someone stole his original and signed him up to sabotage Class Nine. Though Li Da from Class Fifteen is the prime suspect, he denies any involvement. Coach Yang explains that due to a past incident where a school hired professional athletes, the rules are now absolute: the person on the form must run, or the team is disqualified.

Driven by a desire for his class to win, Nan Xi agrees to compete despite the pressure and his inexperience. Xia Rui, though worried, encourages him, telling him to ignore the crowd and focus only on her at the finish line. The 4x100m relay, a crucial five-point event and Class Nine's specialty, begins. Cheng Erluo gives them a strong start, but a subsequent runner drops the baton, severely damaging their chances.

As Nan Xi takes the final handoff, his hat flies off from his speed. Seeing this, Xia Rui shouts his name to refocus him. With his eyes fixed only on Xia Rui waiting with open arms, Nan Xi sprints with all his might, crossing the finish line just ahead of the competition to win first place. Overjoyed, he embraces her.

After the race, Li Da confronts his friend, Yang Li, who confesses to stealing Nan Xi's form to make Class Nine lose. Coach Yang overhears and intervenes, disqualifying Class Nine's 4x100m result and ordering Yang Li to apologize directly to Nan Xi. Nan Xi accepts the apology, and Mr. Hu lets the coach's decision stand. During the award ceremony, Mr. Hu, as the dean, accepts the overall first-place trophy for the grade.

In his speech, he singles out Nan Xi, praising his sprint as the embodiment of the sports meeting's spirit of persistence and self-challenge. Afterward, Nan Xi gives his first-place medal to a thrilled Xia Rui, who has never won one before. He thanks her for being his "destination."

To celebrate, Nan Xi, Xia Rui, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu go to Boss Yi's coffee shop, where they find Mr. Hu giving Boss Yi comical advice on how to woo Coach Yang. Mr. Hu then spots a sticky note on the message board that reads, "Mr. Hu, the great demon king! Go away!" and immediately recognizes Xia Rui's handwriting. After she fumbles through an excuse, he playfully lets it go and reminds Nan Xi to continue tutoring her.

That evening, Xia Rui finds her grandpa secretly watching an idol drama. She gently coaxes him to bed, reflecting that since her mother remarried, she has become the sole emotional pillar for her grandparents. Before sleeping, she receives a text from Nan Xi, who says he will cherish the "gift" she has given him. Her happiness is momentarily deflated when she sees his next message: a list of English passages to recite for Monday.

Episode 9 Recap

With the sports meet concluded, the high school second-year students turned their focus entirely to preparing for their final exams, which marked the end of a demanding academic year before the even more rigorous third year. Their head teacher, Ms. Hu, rallied them with encouraging words and energetic slogans, urging them to embrace the challenge and avoid repeating the year. Meanwhile, Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu formed a study partnership at Boss Yi's coffee shop.

Cheng Erluo, valuing their "revolutionary friendship" over mere studying, often diverted from their tasks. He frequently complimented Zhao Yishu, even teasing her about her blushing face. During one study session, he brought her ice cream, playfully smearing it on her face. As he wiped it clean, their faces drew close, making Zhao Yishu blush even more. Cheng Erluo remained oblivious to her evident affection, consistently referring to her as his "most important revolutionary partner" and "most reliable revolutionary comrade."

After their final exams, the students gathered, excitedly discussing their performance. Everyone acknowledged Nan Xi's exceptional ability to accurately predict key questions, including the Chinese and English compositions and the Physics final question. Cheng Erluo joked that he and Zhao Yishu had benefited greatly from Xia Rui's close connection to Nan Xi, suggesting they might owe Nan Xi a fee for his predictions.

Xia Rui, on the other hand, candidly shared her unorthodox exam strategy, which involved following Nan Xi's tips for math problems by filling in partial solutions and dots to give the impression of effort, hoping to earn points for her good attitude. Later, Ms. Hu announced the official start of summer vacation, tantalizing them with the perks awaiting them as third-year students, like special seating and better food in the cafeteria.

She then delivered a mixed bag of news: due to the exams being particularly challenging, results would be delayed until after the break, but their summer vacation would be significantly shortened to a mere two weeks to allow more time for review. Despite the students' protests, Ms. Hu remained firm. On the first day of summer vacation, Nan Xi arrived promptly at their agreed meeting spot.

Suspecting Xia Rui would arrange to meet Nan Xi alone, Cheng Erluo, accompanied by Zhao Yishu, decided to follow them covertly. Zhao Yishu questioned why they couldn't just join them, but Cheng Erluo insisted that Xia Rui adopted an "everyone is her brother" persona in a crowd, and he wanted to observe her true self when she was alone with Nan Xi.

Before meeting Nan Xi, Xia Rui was at home having breakfast with her mother, Madam Shao, and her younger brother, Haohao. Xia Rui was trying to convince Madam Shao to buy her a coffee machine. Madam Shao initially set a high bar of 500 points on the final exam.

After some lively negotiation, during which Haohao playfully intervened, Madam Shao eventually lowered the requirement to 400 points, but only if Xia Rui agreed to stay home and supervise Haohao's art homework. Faced with this difficult condition, Xia Rui immediately called Nan Xi for help. When Nan Xi arrived at Xia Rui's door, Haohao playfully pushed Xia Rui, causing her to stumble into Nan Xi's arms. Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu, who had been secretly observing, witnessed the accidental embrace.

Haohao, acting like a miniature adult, demanded Nan Xi release his sister. He then proceeded to size up Nan Xi, remarking on his gentle appearance and desirable temperament before directly questioning what Nan Xi liked about his sister. Xia Rui tried to distract Haohao, but he quickly turned the tables, threatening her coffee machine deal by claiming he couldn't find artistic inspiration. With Nan Xi's subtle agreement, Haohao managed to bargain for a trip to an Anime Convention.

Ultimately, Nan Xi suggested a hike up the mountain to find inspiration for Haohao and to collect rare timber for his wood carving hobby. The trio embarked on their hike, unknowingly followed by Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu. Xia Rui complained about the strenuous climb, teasing Nan Xi for being a "Little Wood" and Haohao for calling her "Auntie." Nan Xi, despite the playful banter, was focused on collecting various pieces of wood.

Xia Rui, while warning him about the danger, showed a surprising amount of concern. Haohao, meanwhile, continued to make sarcastic remarks, teasing Xia Rui about her apparent interest in Nan Xi's looks and threatening to expose her "puppy love" to their mother. Exhausted from the hike, Cheng Erluo grumbled about Nan Xi's unusual choice of "date" spot and wanted to turn back, but Zhao Yishu, surprisingly energetic, insisted on continuing to explore another direction.

Reaching a pavilion at the mountain summit, Xia Rui, utterly exhausted, leaned against a wooden pillar and fell asleep. Noticing her uncomfortable posture, Nan Xi gently adjusted her head to rest on his shoulder. Haohao, sitting nearby, diligently sketched the scene on his drawing pad until he too succumbed to sleep. Their peaceful nap was abruptly interrupted by a phone call from Zhao Yishu.

Her voice filled with panic, she explained that she and Cheng Erluo had gotten lost while following them and were now stranded in a square-shaped pavilion somewhere on the mountain. Alarmed by the news and the setting sun, Xia Rui, Nan Xi, and Haohao immediately set out to find them.

Nan Xi, utilizing his extensive knowledge of local trees and their specific habitats, expertly navigated the terrain, pinpointing the location of the pavilion and leading them directly to their lost friends. Upon reaching the pavilion, Xia Rui was relieved but also annoyed, scolding Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu for causing such anxiety. Zhao Yishu quickly took responsibility, explaining that she had wanted to revisit the pavilion because it held a special childhood memory.

She recalled playing there with Cheng Erluo when they were children. While other kids teased Cheng Erluo for being "fat," she had asked him to be her prince, even promising he'd be her prince forever. Cheng Erluo, visibly embarrassed by the revelation, quickly dismissed it as mere "children babble thoughtlessly."

The reunion dissolved into playful arguments, with Cheng Erluo accusing Xia Rui of being unreasonable and suggesting she wanted to keep their mountain "date" a secret because they had an "impure relationship." Haohao, ever the instigator, chimed in, asking if Cheng Erluo also believed his sister had an "impure" relationship with Nan Xi. Zhao Yishu expressed her amazement at Nan Xi's ability to find them, remarking that he seemed to "speak to the timber here."

As night fell, everyone safely descended the mountain. Xia Rui struggled with a sleeping Haohao on her back. Seeing her difficulty, Nan Xi, without hesitation, gently took the boy from her and carried him, also offering to carry her bag. Xia Rui, though touched, continued to insist that their bond was merely that of "brothers." Once they arrived home, Haohao immediately burst into action, revealing that he had been "pretending to sleep" the entire time.

He dramatically criticized Xia Rui and Nan Xi's interactions as a "terrible idol drama" and scoffed at Xia Rui's "good brothers" comment. When Xia Rui attempted to scold him, Haohao quickly held up the drawing he had made on the mountain, threatening to show it to their mother as "evidence of your crime of puppy love."

Flustered, Xia Rui quickly tried to appease him, vehemently denying any "puppy love" and reiterating that she and Nan Xi were just "good friends" and "brothers." The brief summer respite quickly dissolved into a new routine of studying for Cheng Erluo. Zhao Yishu, ever diligent, forced him to focus.

He complained dramatically about staying up until 3 AM to copy her review summaries, but then, looking at her, he expressed genuine confusion before complimenting her clear handwriting, level of detail, and organization, calling her "adorable."

Episode 10 Recap

As the new semester began, the final exam results were released. Despite Xia Rui's immense effort, her ranking dropped by thirty places, severely impacting her confidence. The school also required students to fill out college application forms on the very first day. Zhao Yishu, with her art exam prospects, and Cheng Erluo, with his sports specialty, both set their sights on Binhai University. Nan Xi's excellent grades also made it a straightforward choice for him.

However, for Xia Rui, gaining admission to the same university seemed an insurmountable challenge, creating significant anxiety about being separated from her closest friends or holding them back from their dreams. Overwhelmed, Xia Rui sought relaxation at Yi's cafe. Finding Boss Yi absent, she confidently took charge, making coffee based on her observations. Liu Bin, a senior who had to repeat a year due to flunking, was also working there part-time.

He watched Xia Rui with interest, seemingly finding a kindred spirit in her due to their shared academic struggles. Liu Bin's carefree attitude provided Xia Rui a temporary reprieve. Seeing her downcast, he good-naturedly goaded her into abandoning her stressful studies for a round of arcade games. Meanwhile, Nan Xi, on his way home from evening self-study, spotted Xia Rui playing with Liu Bin outside the cafe.

Though he didn't interrupt, his resolve to help Xia Rui focus on her studies intensified, as he desperately wished to attend the same university as her. However, the more Nan Xi pressured her, the more Xia Rui wanted to evade him. Zhao Yishu, noticing Xia Rui's distress, feigned a craving for Grandma Xia's dumplings and accompanied her in skipping self-study. During their time together, Xia Rui confessed her deep anxiety about the future.

She revealed that Nan Xi's high expectations were making her feel suffocated, as she couldn't bear the thought of one day being separated from her friends. Stumped on how to help Xia Rui, Nan Xi sought out Cheng Erluo. He even resorted to causing a disturbance in class, deliberately getting himself and Cheng Erluo punished to stand outside, just to have a chance to discuss strategies. Nan Xi's increasing confidence and a more open, approachable demeanor were becoming evident.

Cheng Erluo advised Nan Xi that Xia Rui couldn't be controlled and needed to be willing, even sharing a "secret weapon" on how to "chase and coax girls." Later, Nan Xi, Zhao Yishu, and Cheng Erluo discussed Xia Rui's situation, realizing she felt more understood by Liu Bin due to their similar academic struggles. They concluded that the constant talk of Binhai University was highlighting the academic gap and increasing her pressure.

They resolved to support her without adding more burden. Later, Mr. Hu organized a tripartite meeting with students and their parents to discuss college applications. Nan Xi's mother, President Ren, arrived, expressing her hope that Nan Xi would attend Binhai University, particularly its architecture department, a prestigious program well-suited to his interest in wood art.

Mr. Hu acknowledged Nan Xi's strong foundation but pointed out his fluctuating grades, attributing it to a past period of academic inactivity, which worried him given the pressures of the college entrance exam. However, when Nan Xi was asked about his own preference, he blurted out that he only wanted to be with Xia Rui, surprising his mother and leaving Mr. Hu at a loss.

Nan Xi rushed out of the office and saw Xia Rui, lost in thought, letting water overflow while filling her cup. In his concern, Nan Xi accidentally scalded his hand. This sight enraged President Ren, who, without understanding the situation, pushed Xia Rui's hand away and angrily accused her. Just then, President Shao, Xia Rui's mother, walked by and would not tolerate her daughter being blamed. She fiercely defended Xia Rui, leaving President Ren speechless.

It was revealed that President Ren's overprotective behavior stemmed from her guilt over not having enough time to accompany Nan Xi, which she believed contributed to his social anxiety, making her excessively anxious about his every move. After the heated exchange, President Shao and Xia Rui accompanied Mr. Hu to the office for their meeting. Xia Rui unhesitatingly stated her ambition to attend Binhai University.

However, President Shao dismissed her daughter's dream as unrealistic and, ignoring Xia Rui's wishes, reiterated her plans to send Xia Rui to study abroad, despite Xia Rui's poor English and vehement refusal. This unilateral decision-making once again brought the meeting to an abrupt and unhappy end. Back at the cafe, Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Zhao Yishu, and Cheng Erluo brainstormed alternative paths for Xia Rui.

The idea of an art exam came up, but Xia Rui felt she had no artistic talents like singing or drawing. Nan Xi then shrewdly suggested broadcasting and hosting. This idea instantly ignited Xia Rui's confidence. She playfully practiced, mimicking a news anchor, much to the delight of her friends, who praised her natural talent and charisma.

They reassured her that unlike other art forms, broadcasting could be cultivated with high school training, making it a viable option for college admission. On the way home, President Ren secretly followed Nan Xi, observing him as he smiled and laughed freely with Xia Rui. She felt a mix of nostalgia and envy, realizing it had been years since Nan Xi had opened up to her or smiled with such uninhibited joy in her presence.

Later, Nan Xi apologized to Xia Rui for the pressure he had put on her. Xia Rui, in turn, acknowledged her fault for keeping her feelings to herself and for sometimes evading self-study or playing games. They agreed to support each other, and Xia Rui promised to tell Nan Xi everything and study diligently, aiming to attend college with him.

They discussed a new study plan that would integrate the art exam preparation, a prospect that Nan Xi initially suggested might cut into her rest time, causing a momentary playful disagreement before they found a way forward together.

Episode 11 Recap

Following the tense meeting with the school counselor, Xia Rui returned home, bracing for a major confrontation with her mother. To her astonishment, her mother smiled and agreed to let her apply for the Broadcast Host major at Binhai University. Confused, Xia Rui saw her stepfather and younger brother behind her mother, frantically shaking their heads and signaling to her.

Since her mother agreed to wait a year for her college entrance exam results, Xia Rui accepted the deal without question, knowing it was a rare opportunity. The stakes were high: if she failed, she would have to surrender her freedom and follow her mother's arrangements completely. To prepare for this crucial exam, Xia Rui and Nan Xi resumed their one-on-one tutoring sessions. Before diving into their studies, they took a day to relax and shop.

Nan Xi bought Xia Rui a cute notebook for taking notes and got an identical one for himself to track mistakes. However, Xia Rui decided her new notebook was too precious for schoolwork and instead used it to write her personal "wish list," filling it with desires like watching the sunrise from a mountaintop and traveling with Nan Xi.

Later, while Xia Rui was studying at his home, Nan Xi's mother warmly welcomed her, expressing gratitude for the positive changes she saw in her son. After Xia Rui left, Nan Xi mistakenly picked up her notebook, discovering her wish list and her deepest feelings for him. Meanwhile, Chenghua High School's long-standing adult ceremony was abruptly canceled because it conflicted with the joint entrance exams.

The decision infuriated Cheng Erluo, who felt the transition to age eighteen was a significant milestone that demanded celebration. Arguing that the "spirit of becoming an adult can never be canceled," he was further inspired when a student named Qin Fen made two bold, public declarations of affection to different girls despite the principal's warnings against "premature love."

Calling it a "textbook-like youth," Cheng Erluo rallied his classmates to hold their own secret adult ceremony on the school rooftop, planning to skip evening study on Sunday. He also secretly intended to use the event to create a romantic moment for Nan Xi and Xia Rui, even showing Nan Xi the fireworks he had bought to set the mood. On Sunday night, the students snuck past the sleeping security guard and onto the rooftop.

However, Cheng Erluo had mistakenly bought loud fireworks instead of silent ones. The deafening explosions immediately alerted the school's patrol staff, sending the students scattering in panic. While hiding with a terrified Zhao Yishu, Cheng Erluo decided to protect her. He deliberately revealed himself to a patrol officer, allowing himself to be caught. As he was led away, he glanced back at Zhao Yishu's hiding spot with a reassuring look, becoming a hero in her eyes.

Nan Xi, who already knew about Cheng Erluo's firework mistake, had come prepared with a blanket, sleeping bags, snacks, and Xia Rui's cherished bamboo thermos. He led Xia Rui to a secluded balcony corner, where they settled in to watch the city lights. Xia Rui confessed her growing fear of the future, worried that as everyone grew up and became successful, she would be left behind, losing her friends and even Nan Xi.

Nan Xi reassured her, promising he would never lose her again and would always be her "little wood." They made a pact to never be separated, even after they grew up. Xia Rui eventually drifted off to sleep. She stirred briefly, dreaming Nan Xi's face was close to hers, before he gently woke her for real. He pointed to the horizon, where a magnificent sunrise was breaking. On her eighteenth birthday, Xia Rui's first wish—to watch the sunrise with Nan Xi—had come true. They wished each other a happy eighteenth birthday as they watched the view.

Episode 12 Recap

After a school incident involving fireworks, Cheng Erluo was called into Mr. Hu's office for a stern lecture. Mr. Hu, his English teacher, warned him that such an act could lead to the cancellation of his special recruitment qualifications for Binhai University, especially given his low scores. As punishment, Cheng Erluo was tasked with writing a 10,000-word self-criticism. When he attempted to negotiate the length, Mr. Hu threatened to double it to 20,000 words, prompting Cheng Erluo to reluctantly agree.

As he was leaving, he overheard Mr. Hu telling another teacher that due to the approaching final exams and students preparing for art tests, their class would likely not participate in the New Year's party. Upon hearing this, Cheng Erluo returned to class and passionately rallied his classmates, insisting they should still hold a New Year's party as it would be their last group activity before the college entrance examinations.

His enthusiasm was momentarily dampened when Zhao Yishu reminded him of the 10,000-word self-criticism he had to write. Cheng Erluo immediately pleaded with Zhao Yishu for help. Feeling partly responsible for his predicament and using the excuse that it would keep his hands free for basketball practice, she agreed to write it for him. At the Yi Ze coffee shop, Xia Rui was preparing for her broadcast host art exam by reciting "Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again."

Despite her usual carefree demeanor, she became nervous and felt disconnected from the performance. Observing her anxiety and lack of stage experience, her friends suggested she perform at the New Year's party to practice. Nan Xi then unveiled a collection of simple, beautifully crafted wooden instruments he had made for them to use. The group, consisting of Cheng Erluo, Zhao Yishu, Nan Xi, and Xia Rui, enthusiastically decided to form a team and practice for the party.

On the day of the party, the group secretly signed up to perform to surprise Mr. Hu. However, just before their turn, Xia Rui realized she had forgotten her instrument, a wooden hammer, at home. She rushed back to get it, but as their performance time drew near, she had not returned and was unreachable by phone.

Worried, Nan Xi went to find her, while Cheng Erluo, Zhao Yishu, and the others, though anxious, decided to stay and prepare to perform to honor Xia Rui's hard work. Nan Xi hurried to Xia Rui's house and found her asleep with a high fever. Overcoming his social anxiety, Nan Xi went to a crowded pharmacy to buy medicine. He then meticulously cared for her, giving her medicine and preparing a simple meal.

While Xia Rui was resting, her younger brother, Xia Haozi, video-called to wish her a happy eighteenth birthday. Seeing Nan Xi in her room, Xia Haozi mistakenly assumed they were a couple and urged Nan Xi to treat his sister well. However, Nan Xi had already come to see Xia Rui as the most important person in his life.

After the party, Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu were walking on the street when they were accosted by a group of thugs. They were chased into a deserted alley, but just as the situation turned dangerous, Mr. Hu appeared and intervened. He threatened to call the police, causing the thugs to flee. While waiting for the police after reporting the incident, Zhao Yishu felt unwell from the fright, so Cheng Erluo carried her on his back.

Zhao Yishu expressed concern for Xia Rui, but Cheng Erluo dismissed it, saying they shouldn't disturb Nan Xi and Xia Rui's time together. Though astute about others' relationships, he remained completely oblivious to Zhao Yishu's feelings for him. Thanks to Nan Xi's careful attention, Xia Rui woke up the next morning fully recovered. Her grandparents, having just returned from a trip, warmly greeted Nan Xi and invited him to stay with them for the rest of the New Year's holiday.

Xia Rui was pleasantly surprised when Nan Xi, who typically prefers quiet, readily agreed. After dinner, her grandparents devised a plan to have Xia Rui and Nan Xi wash the dishes together. Unfamiliar with housework, Nan Xi struggled at first but soon found joy in playfully splashing water with Xia Rui in the kitchen as her grandparents watched on with deep contentment.

Episode 13 Recap

In the kitchen, Nan Xi and Xia Rui's playful moment is interrupted by Xia Rui's grandparents. Her grandmother produces old family photos, much to Xia Rui's embarrassment, which she calls her "black history." Grandma fondly reminisces about Xia Rui's childhood, noting that her mother started her career and her father passed away when she was young, leaving her upbringing largely to her grandparents. Feeling awkward, Xia Rui tries to change the subject to watching TV.

Later that night, Xia Rui finds Nan Xi awake in the living room. She attempts a "magic trick" to help him forget the embarrassing photos, but he teases her by insisting he cannot forget. Xia Rui then asks Nan Xi if he would ever want to return to his childhood. He replies no, and she agrees, stating she is very happy now, especially with her "Xiaomuto."

However, Xia Rui expresses a small regret: being ill meant she missed celebrating New Year's and her birthday with him. Nan Xi gently assures her that they can celebrate every future birthday together and wishes her a "Happy Birthday" before tenderly carrying the now-sleeping Xia Rui back to her room. On the first day after the holiday, news of Mr. Hu heroically protecting students has spread throughout the school.

At a coffee shop, Zhao Yishu notes to Xia Rui that Mr. Hu is now taking the bus because of his injuries. Cheng Erluo's heroic deed is discussed among students, with Zhao Yishu confirming that Mr. Hu intervened to save her and Cheng Erluo from gangsters on New Year's Eve. Xia Rui defends Cheng Erluo from criticism, explaining they were stunned by Mr. Hu's shouting and simply followed his command to leave.

The students deduce that Cheng Erluo spread the news before leaving for his training, unconcerned about Mr. Hu's reaction. Later in class, Mr. Hu enters limping and downplays his injuries as a mere fall in the bathroom. The students, genuinely concerned, give him a round of applause. Though emotional, Mr. Hu tries to maintain his strict demeanor, warning them not to butter him up for fewer quizzes.

He then announces a series of important seminars featuring professors from various universities, advising students to pay close attention. Zhao Yishu later discusses an upcoming lecture by an architecture professor with Xia Rui. Xia Rui initially wants to tell Nan Xi, but Zhao Yishu reminds her of Dr. Lin's warning that even slight emotional fluctuations can affect Nan Xi's grades, citing his recent drop from ninth to twelfth place.

Zhao Yishu points out that if Xia Rui asks Nan Xi to attend, he will feel obligated to go, which could backfire. She advises Xia Rui to let Nan Xi decide for himself. Nan Xi's tutoring sessions for Xia Rui become increasingly strict, making her copy sentences multiple times and memorize long poems. At the coffee shop, Mr. Hu scolds them for not studying, even mentioning that Teacher Wang had reported Xia Rui's poor dictation.

The coffee shop owner, Mr. Yi, a friend of Mr. Hu's, shows the girls a notebook Mr. Hu left behind. It contains detailed records of every student's academic situation and areas for improvement, revealing his deep dedication. Xia Rui realizes Mr. Hu is the one influencing Nan Xi's new strictness. When she confronts Nan Xi, he simply tells her to focus on memorizing the poem.

Later, Xia Rui expresses her concern that tutoring her might be negatively impacting Nan Xi's own academic performance. Nan Xi reassures her, stating that studying with her actually makes him more efficient. Relieved by his response, Xia Rui becomes determined to do something significant for him. Driven by this resolve, she corners Professor Gu, a distinguished architecture professor, in the school corridor to recommend Nan Xi. A mortified Nan Xi pulls her away.

Mr. Hu apologizes to the professor for the interruption but subtly adds that he has already mentioned the talented boy. Unwilling to give up, Xia Rui intercepts Professor Gu again as he leaves the school. She passionately advocates for Nan Xi, and her persistence draws the professor's attention to the unique wooden bag she is carrying. Xia Rui proudly explains that Nan Xi made it, highlighting its surprising lightness and clever design.

Impressed by the craftsmanship and swayed by Xia Rui's determination, Professor Gu agrees to wait for Nan Xi at the university's recruiting event. Overjoyed, Xia Rui rushes to Nan Xi's home and excitedly tells him the news, seeing it as a guarantee that removes the pressure of the entrance exams. However, Nan Xi doesn't share her excitement and instead asks if she has finished memorizing her poem.

He then reveals his true concern: if Xia Rui can't get into the same university, he won't go either. While architecture is his dream, his priority is being with her. Xia Rui confidently reassures him that she will get in. On the day of the Binhai University recruiting event, Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Zhao Yishu, and Liu Bin pose for a photo at the university gate.

Liu Bin jokes that only tourists take pictures there, and they are mocked by some passing students. Liu Bin mentions that Cheng Erluo couldn't join them because he has his final game. As they talk, a boy surrounded by a group of girls walks past, his gaze lingering on Zhao Yishu.

Episode 14 Recap

As the Binhai University independent enrollment exam approached, Nan Xi was surprised when Xia Rui arrived with breakfast. She gave him her whale necklace, telling him to take it as if she were by his side, which eased his nerves. Cheng Erluo, who was supposed to take Nan Xi to the exam, arrived, expressing annoyance at Xia Rui's presence. Claiming she was on her way to her own exam, Xia Rui left.

Outside the exam hall, Professor Gu Siming, Deputy Dean of the Architecture College, noticed the necklace and complimented its design, leaving him with a positive impression. With the necklace as a source of comfort, Nan Xi felt at ease and performed well in his exam. Meanwhile, Xia Rui was taking her art exam for broadcast hosting.

Although she started her poem recitation confidently, she became increasingly nervous, repeating lines and eventually forgetting them entirely, leading the examiners to cut her performance short. Distraught, Xia Rui hid in a restroom, where she spoke to herself in the mirror, trying to steel her emotions and forcing a smile so that Nan Xi wouldn't see her upset and worry about her.

Back at school, students buzzed about Nan Xi’s excellent performance and Professor Gu's favorable impression, which seemed to guarantee his admission to Binhai University. With her art exam being her only alternative path, Xia Rui began studying for the college entrance examination with an intensity that surprised even Cheng Erluo, who joked that she was "possessed by a savant."

When the art exam results were distributed, Xia Rui was the only one in their group who didn't receive an acceptance letter. She tried to downplay her disappointment, claiming the exam was just a trial run. Upon learning of Xia Rui's failure, Nan Xi decisively discarded his own pre-admission letter, declaring to Xia Rui, "I will go wherever you go."

Worried that her failure would hinder Nan Xi’s path, Xia Rui was reassured by Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo, who reminded her that her grades had improved significantly and she still had a chance with the main college entrance exam. In response, the friends formed a support system: Nan Xi took charge of her academic studies, Cheng Erluo was responsible for her physical conditioning, and Zhao Yishu oversaw her emotional stability.

Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu also pledged their unwavering support, promising to accompany her no matter how difficult the path to Binhai became. Later, Nan Xi invited Xia Rui to the coffee shop where he worked. As a reward for her progress on the first model exam, he personally made her a coffee with latte art.

At the cafe with their friends, Xia Rui confessed her deeper fears of growing up and losing her friends, her fearlessness, and even Nan Xi himself. Nan Xi comforted her, promising he wouldn’t lose her again and telling her she was his "destination," not a burden. Emboldened by their support, Xia Rui resolved to study even harder. Nan Xi explained that the latte art was his "return" for the courage her necklace had given him.

Boss Yi then appeared and gave Nan Xi a gift of premium coffee to help him prepare for his own exams. In class, Mr. Hu reviewed the second model exam results. He praised Nan Xi, Lin Xiaoxiao, and Zhao Yishu for their excellent performances, and commended Xia Rui for improving her grade ranking by 73 places. Seeing many students disheartened by their own scores, Cheng Erluo suggested watching comedy movies to relieve stress.

Mr. Hu rejected the idea but promised a Sunday outing if the class behaved well. On Sunday, Mr. Hu led the students on a mountain climb, choosing a difficult, winding path instead of the main road, to the students' dismay. During the hike, Cheng Erluo offered to piggyback a tired Zhao Yishu. Xia Rui jokingly asked why he didn’t offer to carry her, and he playfully refused, saying Nan Xi should do it.

Nan Xi immediately offered, but Xia Rui declined. Mr. Hu quickly intervened, prohibiting piggybacking on the dangerous terrain. Later, Nan Xi confronted Xia Rui about her joke, making her promise that only he could piggyback her. After she clarified that close family didn't count as "outsiders," she agreed, and he added that she was also not allowed to piggyback others.

Finally, at the summit, Mr. Hu explained that he chose the rugged trail so they could experience how overcoming hardship makes achieving a goal more meaningful. He connected this lesson to their exam results, assuring them he wasn't disappointed as long as they didn’t give up on themselves. Moved by his words, the students shed tears. As the sun set, Mr. Hu encouraged them to shout out their dream universities, and together, they ended the day by yelling, "I know, spring is ours!"

Episode 15 Recap

As college entrance examination results were released, Nan Xi achieved an outstanding score of 697, leading his friends to joke about him taking over Binhai University. Xia Rui, the last to check, anxiously learned her score was 449, just one point below the typical admission score for Binhai Education University.

Nan Xi was even more distraught than Xia Rui, especially when she revealed a promise made to her mother, Shao Zong: if she failed to get into a university in Binhai, she would be sent abroad. Fearing separation, Nan Xi reassured a panicked Xia Rui, asking her to trust him so they could find a way to stay together. Xia Rui discussed her options with her mother, who noted her decent English score and suggested applying to overseas universities.

However, Xia Rui asked for three days to present an alternative plan, a request her mother reluctantly granted. During these three days, Xia Rui and Nan Xi meticulously prepared their proposal, with Nan Xi teasing her about the complexity of the plan and how he never imagined telling her to "shut up." Dressed formally for the presentation, Nan Xi and Xia Rui faced her family.

Their serious attire, combined with her grandmother calling Nan Xi a "good little boyfriend" and her cousin wondering if he was there to propose, made Shao Zong anxious. Nan Xi opened by stating his disagreement with sending Xia Rui abroad and began a passionate speech about his deep bond with her, declaring his intention to be responsible for her future. Shao Zong, flustered, misinterpreted his words as a premature marriage proposal from two eighteen-year-olds.

To clarify the misunderstanding, Xia Rui presented their "career proposal." While Shao Zong cynically examined it, asking if they were trying to "sell her daughter," the two explained their plan. They proposed Binhai Business School's hotel management program, which was a top-ranked local option. Nan Xi pointed out that based on statistical conversions, Xia Rui's score of 449 was likely sufficient for admission. Xia Rui argued that studying locally was safer and more convenient for supervision.

She also highlighted a nearby acclaimed café, a hub for national barista competitions, where she could gain valuable experience for her passion in coffee-making. She insisted her goal was to build confidence and skills locally, not to escape failure. Meanwhile, her grandfather, impressed with Nan Xi, privately vowed to support their relationship to Shao Zong. Despite their thorough plan, Shao Zong worried about Xia Rui's over-reliance on Nan Xi, questioning if she could be responsible for her own life.

Nan Xi countered, declaring that Xia Rui was not alone and that they were mutually dependent. He explained that without her, he wouldn't have navigated high school successfully, and vowed they would always be together, never to be separated again. His sincerity began to sway Shao Zong. Later, the friends learned that the Bird Tea Cafe was closing.

The owner, Lao Yi, had left to pursue Coach Yang, who was moving to another province, leaving Xia Rui a parting gift of rare coffee beans. As Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Meishu helped clean the cafe, they reminisced. Unseen by Xia Rui, a sticky note she peeled off a board contained a heartfelt confession from Nan Xi.

In it, he had written that his words to her mother were the sincere truth—he wanted to be with her forever, not just as a friend, but to hold her hand and grow old with her.

Episode 16 Recap

The morning sun roused Xia Rui, who was brimming with excitement for her first day at university. After heartfelt goodbyes to her family, who offered blessings and concerns, she embarked on her new chapter. Nan Xi, too, was leaving home for the first time. His mother was visibly worried about his ability to adapt to dormitory life, but Nan Xi, more expressive than before, reassured her he would be fine, alleviating some of her fears.

Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu had already arrived the previous day, as Cheng Erluo had early morning basketball club training and Zhao Yishu had accompanied him. This left Nan Xi and Xia Rui to travel to Binhai University together, their journey filled with lighthearted banter. Xia Rui playfully corrected Nan Xi’s English grammar, while Nan Xi, more relaxed than ever, reciprocated her teasing.

Xia Rui expressed her annoyance that Cheng Erluo’s early departure had ruined their initial travel plans, lamenting the wasted playing cards she had bought. Zhao Yishu, who had kept Cheng Erluo company on the train, later reassured Xia Rui that they would have plenty of other opportunities to travel together. Upon their arrival, Zhao Yishu was waiting to greet them.

Seeing the crowded registration area, Xia Rui decided to register for Nan Xi herself, asking Zhao Yishu to stay with him. When Xia Rui announced Nan Xi’s name to the registrar, everyone's attention immediately turned to her. It quickly became apparent that Nan Xi was already renowned at Binhai University as the "double first-place" student.

The registrar, upon seeing a female student registering for a male one, mistakenly assumed they were a couple, prompting Xia Rui to clarify that they were just friends and she would be helping him with his affairs. When Xia Rui returned, she found Nan Xi and Zhao Yishu surrounded by a group of freshmen.

Two students, claiming to be from the press team, were filming without consent, boldly declaring Zhao Yishu the prettiest freshman and Nan Xi the top student in architecture, a "match made in heaven." The public spectacle clearly made Nan Xi uncomfortable. Xia Rui immediately intervened, confronting the self-proclaimed reporters for infringing on their privacy, secretly filming, and spreading rumors. She deleted their footage, much to their dismay, especially after one of them dropped his "oil cake" in the commotion.

The escalating confrontation was ended by the arrival of Cheng Erluo and Lu Sibo. Lu Sibo, a respected senior and the basketball team captain, reprimanded the "reporters" for their unprofessional conduct, reminding them that the university's official press team always sought consent before filming. The two students promptly apologized. Cheng Erluo introduced Lu Sibo, and Nan Xi and Xia Rui recalled meeting him briefly during Nan Xi's art exam.

Admiring Nan Xi's talent, Lu Sibo offered his assistance should Nan Xi ever need anything. After he left, Xia Rui reflected on her own uncharacteristic lack of confidence during the incident, which prompted Cheng Erluo to humorously reintroduce her as "Brother Rui." Cheng Erluo then described the undesirable conditions of the male dormitories, vividly explaining the overwhelming "scent of man." Concerned for Nan Xi’s comfort, Xia Rui insisted on inspecting his dorm room with him.

The hallway was chaotic, and inside, Nan Xi’s designated roommates were the intrusive "paparazzi" student and the one who had complained about his dropped "oil cake." It was immediately obvious that the living environment was unsuitable for Nan Xi. Nan Xi firmly decided he could not live in the dormitory. Xia Rui supported his decision and contacted Uncle Wang, his mother's friend in Binhai, to help find off-campus housing.

Overhearing their phone conversation, Cheng Erluo comically misunderstood and accused them of planning to "cohabit," which Xia Rui vehemently denied. They told Uncle Wang they needed a place within two kilometers of the university with at least two bedrooms—one for living and one for a studio. To Nan Xi's clear disappointment, Xia Rui stated she would not be moving in with him, believing it was unsafe for a girl to live off-campus.

Uncle Wang first showed them a luxurious villa that was far beyond their budget, followed by a small, old, and cramped bungalow. Finally, inspired, he led them to an industrial park and showed them a former design company office. The double-story loft, with its clean, quiet environment and appealing layout, was perfect for Nan Xi to use as a living space and a studio for his architecture studies. Satisfied, Nan Xi agreed to lease the space.

After signing the paperwork, exhausted from their day, they rested on a sleeping mat on the floor. As Xia Rui watched Nan Xi sleep, she felt an irresistible urge to lean in closer, her face drawing near his. Just as the moment turned intimate, a phone call from Cheng Erluo shattered the atmosphere. He was enthusiastically inviting them to a highly-rated skewers shop to celebrate the start of their university life.

Though Nan Xi was visibly annoyed by the interruption, he reluctantly agreed. At the shop, the four friends discussed Nan Xi’s unbearable roommates and Cheng Erluo declared that their high school friend group, "Cheng Yi Nan Xia," must now work together to help furnish Nan Xi's new home and ensure an exciting university life ahead.

The next morning, Xia Rui sent Nan Xi a lengthy, enthusiastic voice message, but he responded with a typically succinct two-word reply, leaving her comically exasperated. In his first class with Professor Gu Siming, Nan Xi's dorm mates speculated about their mysterious fourth roommate. Professor Gu then introduced Gao Ting, a student Nan Xi had briefly encountered during his admissions exam. Gao Ting appeared cold and aloof, but he surprisingly remembered Nan Xi and greeted him directly.

Nan Xi's roommates worried about two "icy cold" individuals sharing a room, though one of them quickly revealed he had already investigated Gao Ting and discovered he was a Binhai local whose parents worked at the university, making it unlikely he would actually live in the dorm.

Episode 17 Recap

The new semester began with an immediate group assignment: an architectural model design due in two weeks, to be completed by dorm units. In class, a new student, Gao Ting, was introduced. Also in Nan Xi's dorm unit were Hu Jing and Hao Tian, the duo who had acted like paparazzi on the first day of school. After class, Hu Jing and Hao Tian approached Nan Xi to discuss the group project.

Before they could get far, Gao Ting confronted Nan Xi, noting that he had lost to Nan Xi in the entrance examination and was eager for a rematch, dismissing Nan Xi's previous work as a "0. 5 version." Shortly after, Xia Rui arrived. Hu Jing and Hao Tian then apologized for their behavior on the first day before trying to discuss the assignment with Nan Xi, using a metaphor of "dumplings in a steamer" to describe their shared fate.

However, the conversation was inconclusive. Meanwhile, Xia Rui was busy helping Nan Xi set up his new home. The rented industrial loft was initially empty, which Nan Xi preferred for renovation. Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu frequently joined them to assist, and despite Cheng Erluo's grumbling about the physical labor, the four friends transformed the space into a warm and vibrant home.

As a special touch, Xia Rui secretly arranged for Nan Xi's mother to send some of his old wooden art pieces, hoping to give him a surprise and make the house feel more personal. However, Nan Xi's reaction was not what she expected. He considered his past works "semi-finished and experimental products" that were not suitable for display. Seeing Xia Rui's hurt expression, Nan Xi quickly clarified that he liked everything she did for the house.

He pointed out two celery stalks she had placed in a vase, cherishing them because they were the one thing in the house made by her. Mollified and delighted, Xia Rui called him a "bootlicker" but happily agreed to his suggestion of getting fresh flowers daily. Once the house was furnished, the four friends planned to have dinner.

Cheng Erluo insisted on staying, eager to taste Nan Xi's cooking, only to be surprised that Nan Xi and Xia Rui had already used the kitchen. His hopes were dashed again when the group could not agree on what groceries to buy, with Nan Xi and Xia Rui giving conflicting lists. They ended up ordering pizza, much to Cheng Erluo's dismay, who vowed he would get to taste Nan Xi's cooking eventually.

One afternoon, while helping Nan Xi install shelving, Cheng Erluo lost his footing on a ladder and fell, instinctively shielding Zhao Yishu. In the process, they both noticed the name "Rui" carved into Nan Xi's bed frame. Cheng Erluo immediately deduced Nan Xi's feelings for Xia Rui and later confronted him, offering to help their relationship along with extravagant ideas like candlelight dinners. Nan Xi, however, sternly warned him not to tell Xia Rui and to be more mature.

Later, Xia Rui left abruptly after receiving a parcel for Nan Xi. She confided in Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu that she had accidentally opened it and found a surveillance camera. She worried Nan Xi intended to install it outside his bedroom door as he had done at home, effectively isolating himself again. She feared her efforts to help him adapt had backfired.

Zhao Yishu comforted her, suggesting that pushing Nan Xi into a dorm right away might have been too much too soon, and advised her to speak with him directly. The next day, Xia Rui confronted Nan Xi about the camera. He assured her he wouldn't install it, explaining he was too busy with a difficult "dormitory homework." Xia Rui quickly understood he was struggling not with the project itself, but with how to approach his roommates.

Praising him for not trying to escape the group work and for taking the difficult first step of opening up, she encouraged him that presenting his ideas would be easy and offered to accompany him. They went to the university workshop, where Hu Jing and Hao Tian were overjoyed that Nan Xi was joining them, especially after he revealed he had already completed the design drawings.

In their excitement, they carelessly remarked that with Nan Xi, the "No. 1 professional," the second-ranked Gao Ting seemed "less important." Gao Ting, who had just arrived at the entrance, overheard them. He entered briefly, stated he would work by himself since he wasn't important anyway, and left, clearly hurt. Unaware of the impact of their words, Hu Jing commented, "A mountain cannot tolerate two tigers."

Episode 18 Recap

Following through on his decision to collaborate, Nan Xi leads his dorm mates, Hao Tian and Hu Jing, to a first-place victory on their group project, earning them an additional five academic points. Gao Ting, who worked alone, comes in second and, though disappointed, applauds Nan Xi's success. To celebrate, Xia Rui suggests a hotpot dinner.

While buying ingredients, she runs into Gao Ting and invites him to join, but the aloof architecture student declines, stating he isn't close to them. The brief encounter reminds Xia Rui of Nan Xi's former self. She quickly moves on, joining Nan Xi and his dorm mates for the meal. Annoyed by their messy eating and fearful for his nearby drawings, Nan Xi suggests they move to a more secluded spot.

They find a corner of the campus they believe is free of surveillance, only to realize they were filmed on their way there. Moments later, the school patrol team arrives, forcing the four to don paper bags as masks and flee. The next day, a blurry picture of their escape is posted on the school bulletin board.

Worried she'll be identified by Gao Ting, Xia Rui panics, but Nan Xi reassures her he will take full responsibility if they are caught. A call from Cheng Erluo reminds Xia Rui and Nan Xi of their housewarming appointment. At the new apartment, Nan Xi gifts a grateful Cheng Erluo a coveted 2013 James championship ring as thanks for his help.

Cheng Erluo playfully suggests they all move in together as "The Four Auspicious Treasures," which Xia Rui jokingly counters with "Roast Duck of 4 Treasure." After Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu leave to give them privacy, Nan Xi unveils a surprise for Xia Rui: a beautiful painting he made of them, titled "Our Home." He confesses his deep feelings, explaining he moved not to escape, but to build a life with her.

He admits his terror when she considered studying abroad made him realize the depth of his love. Touched, Xia Rui promises to always look at him from now on. Their conversation then turns to the camera that previously caused a rift between them. When she asks if he still plans to install it, Nan Xi reframes its purpose, saying he wants to place it at the doorway to protect not just her, but "our home."

Though officially a couple, Xia Rui feels shy about living together. To show his commitment, Nan Xi takes her for a spin on a carousel, a "theme park tailored just for her." Xia Rui confides that no one has played with her so joyfully since her father passed away and reflects on her life-long desire for a real home.

Nan Xi lovingly corrects her, saying the apartment is "our home" and tells her that instead of "thank you," they should only say "I like you." They embrace, exchanging "I like yous." Their moment is interrupted by a call from Xia Rui's mother, who is going on vacation and needs Xia Rui to look after her younger brother, Hao.

After negotiating a generous "nanny" salary, Xia Rui plans to stay with Hao in a hotel, but Nan Xi convinces her it would be more cost-effective for them to stay at the new apartment, framing it as a trial run for having roommates. Xia Rui agrees on the condition that Nan Xi is fully responsible for Hao.

The boy quickly makes himself at home, calling Nan Xi "brother-in-law" but sparking a comedic war over sleeping arrangements when he discovers the single bed and insists on sleeping with his sister to "protect" her. Meanwhile, Cheng Erluo's deep affection for Zhao Yishu remains obvious to everyone but himself. He skips a team dinner to escort her to a Drama Club event, telling his curious teammates their bond is beyond a normal person's understanding.

He admits to her that he has been reading nasty comments about her on the school forum and vows to protect her. When she gently probes his own romantic plans, he dismisses the idea, stating he must focus on basketball for the next few years. Oblivious to her feelings, he then advises her not to date anyone without his and Xia Rui's approval, reinforcing his purely protective stance. Despite her disappointment, Zhao Yishu encourages him for his upcoming game, promising she’ll be there to cheer him on.

Episode 19 Recap

After finally getting the rambunctious Chen Hao to sleep, Nan Xi insisted on taking the boy to sleep on the sofa. Later that night, Xia Rui found herself watching Nan Xi sleep and, unable to resist, stole a quick kiss before retreating to her room with a mix of guilt and delight.

The next morning, while Xia Rui was trying to quietly grind coffee, Chen Hao teased her about becoming a "strict wife and a good mother" for Nan Xi's sake. Wanting to keep the precocious boy out of trouble, Xia Rui decided to leave him with Cheng Erluo. Meanwhile, Cheng Erluo approached Zhao Yishu with breakfast, awkwardly relaying health tips he claimed were from Xia Rui.

Their senior and tutor, Tian Rui, mistook them for a couple, commenting on what a handsome match they made. Cheng Erluo's hasty denial annoyed Zhao Yishu. Later, she confronted him, asking if he truly wanted her to find a boyfriend so she would stop bothering him. Utterly oblivious, Cheng Erluo said it was normal for girls to date and that it wouldn't affect their friendship, even encouraging her to keep "bothering" him, which only deepened Zhao Yishu's frustration.

Xia Rui dropped Chen Hao off with Cheng Erluo, but he quickly became distracted by a staring contest. Seizing the opportunity, Chen Hao slipped away and found Nan Xi in the middle of a lecture. Declaring himself Nan Xi's "brother-in-law," Chen Hao demanded Nan Xi spend the day with him. When Nan Xi tried to text Xia Rui, Chen Hao blackmailed him, threatening to accuse Nan Xi of abuse to their parents once his relationship with Xia Rui became public.

He framed his demands as a way for them, as future family, to get acquainted. Nan Xi's first attempt to placate Chen Hao with university coffee was met with disdain. The boy expertly critiqued its lack of aesthetic appeal and poor taste compared to Xia Rui's. Impressed, Nan Xi decided to take him on a tour of local coffee shops. Though Chen Hao complained throughout, he went along with it, preferring the adventure to his homework.

Nan Xi meticulously took notes in a journal as Chen Hao evaluated each cup, noting subtle flavors like blueberry and chocolate, and qualities like purity and fruity sourness. During their tour, they ran into Yang Yufei. She assumed Nan Xi was Xia Rui's boyfriend and expressed her envy. Chen Hao played along, continuing to call Nan Xi "brother-in-law" and even jokingly telling Yang Yufei he would pursue her when he was older.

Elsewhere, Xia Rui found a dejected Zhao Yishu, who confessed her despair over Cheng Erluo's cluelessness. She explained that after numerous hints, she concluded he simply didn't see her romantically and had decided to give up to preserve their friendship. Xia Rui sympathized, calling Cheng Erluo "stupid, dull, and dumb." Her comforting was cut short by a call from her mother, who announced she and Uncle Chen were coming to Binhai that night to pick up Chen Hao.

Panicked, Xia Rui realized Nan Xi's phone was off and Chen Hao was missing, terrified of what would happen if her mother discovered the truth. Xia Rui enlisted Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo for a frantic search. They learned from Yang Yufei, who showed them photos Chen Hao had sent, that the pair had been visiting coffee shops. Following the lead, they arrived at a cafe just as Nan Xi and Chen Hao were leaving.

Xia Rui spotted them down the street and called out, but Nan Xi instructed Chen Hao not to look back, and they both broke into a run, successfully evading their pursuers. Later, having made a pact, Chen Hao explained to Nan Xi that while their afternoon adventure was for Xia Rui's benefit, Nan Xi should be careful about revealing his relationship too soon, as a breakup could cause family complications.

Nan Xi confidently stated he wouldn't break up with her, but then amended his words, recalling that TV dramas teach one not to be too certain. Soon after, Xia Rui's mother called for their location. Xia Rui finally found Nan Xi and Chen Hao and directed her family's driver to them. After Chen Hao was safely sent off, a bewildered Cheng Erluo asked Nan Xi about his secretive behavior, but Nan Xi dismissed him.

Cheng Erluo was left wondering why both Xia Rui and Zhao Yishu were annoyed with him. Finally alone with Xia Rui, Nan Xi presented his surprise: a hand-drawn "Coffee Map," the result of his and Chen Hao's extensive tasting adventure, created just for her.

Episode 20 Recap

University life continues for Nan Xi and Xia Rui, a mix of romance and academics. However, a noticeable change has occurred: Cheng Erluo no longer sees the familiar figure of Zhao Yishu waiting for him during his basketball games. When she briefly appears at the court, his spirits lift, but he is crestfallen to realize her attention isn't on him. Seeking to spend more time with Xia Rui, Nan Xi sits in on her morning English class.

Xia Rui is surprised, asking why he is there since he has no morning classes, to which he simply replies that he missed her. Their notoriously strict professor, Deng, catches Xia Rui late and reading a novel. She threatens to fail Xia Rui unless she makes up for her poor attendance. Nan Xi intervenes and learns that Xia Rui has been late six times and must recite six English texts to avoid retaking the course.

Despite Xia Rui's resistance, who finds the task daunting and prefers retaking the class with a different teacher, Nan Xi reassures her that he will help her, promising his support. Frustrated about memorizing English texts, Xia Rui laments that Professor Deng is even stricter than her high school teachers and playfully blames Nan Xi for her predicament. Nan Xi then reveals his own problem: he is struggling to choose an elective course before the deadline.

Seizing the opportunity, Xia Rui gleefully offers to help, and Nan Xi agrees to take any course she picks. Xia Rui sees this as a perfect chance to playfully retaliate. In the school cafeteria, Cheng Erluo runs into Si Bo, a recent graduate. Si Bo congratulates Cheng Erluo on becoming the basketball team's reserve captain and offers to practice with him. He then subtly shifts the conversation to Zhao Yishu, noting her absence.

Cheng Erluo readily shares details about Zhao Yishu's drama troupe tour and her expected return. He fondly describes her unique preferences, like her love for spicy hot brine and ice cream, and recalls their childhood together, unaware that Si Bo's casual questions stem from a romantic interest in her. While in the library with her roommate Wan Ling, Xia Rui meticulously reviews elective courses for Nan Xi.

After dismissing Taekwondo as too dangerous, her attention settles on "Social Development Training," believing its gradual approach to improving social skills would be beneficial for Nan Xi. She enrolls him in the course and later admits to Wan Ling that she also recruited their friend Hao Tian to join the class as her "undercover agent," forcing him to abandon his preferred flower arrangement class to report back on Nan Xi's activities.

Hao Tian reluctantly confirms this to Nan Xi, explaining Xia Rui coerced him. The first social development class begins, and the instructor announces the main activity will be ballroom dancing, requiring fixed male-female partners for the semester. Although Nan Xi is initially hesitant, he reluctantly agrees to participate, knowing it was Xia Rui's choice. After one student's request to partner with Nan Xi is denied, another girl, Yang Yufei, successfully partners with him.

The class proceeds with basic dance steps, during which Nan Xi and Yang Yufei hold hands and waists as required. While Xia Rui is diligently studying, Cheng Erluo approaches, bewildered by her sudden studiousness. He shows her photos circulating online of Nan Xi and Yang Yufei ballroom dancing, with comments praising them as a "golden couple." Xia Rui initially feigns indifference, claiming Nan Xi already told her and that physical contact is normal for dancing.

However, after Wan Ling teases her about Nan Xi and Yang Yufei's shared past and potential future, her jealousy becomes apparent. Later, she sarcastically asks Nan Xi if he had "fun" dancing with Yang Yufei. She playfully pulls him close, mimicking a dance hold, and though she denies it when Nan Xi points out her "sour" mood, her discomfort is clear. Upon Zhao Yishu's return from her tour, Si Bo is waiting at the school gate.

He insists on carrying her luggage and escorting her to her dormitory. He first claims he was "passing by" but then admits he waited specifically for her. At her dormitory, Si Bo presents her with hot brine and ice cream, mentioning he heard she liked them. Recognizing Cheng Erluo as the source, Zhao Yishu politely but firmly declines the gifts. She explains her preference is for a specific shop from her hometown that she and Cheng Erluo frequented as children.

She then candidly tells Si Bo that while she appreciates his kindness, she already has feelings for someone else: Cheng Erluo. Si Bo is surprised to be rejected before he can even formally confess. He stops Zhao Yishu from apologizing, stating that there is no right or wrong in emotions, and reveals he was captivated by her when he first saw her during her university arts exam.

He explains that he no longer needs a reason for his feelings, as simply caring for her brings him happiness. He asks her not to feel burdened and to accept his kindness by treating him as a caring older brother, a request she finds difficult to accept, feeling she doesn't deserve his efforts. Despite her rejection, Si Bo insists on remaining in her life.

Episode 21 Recap

Since starting university, Xia Rui missed the days when she and Nan Xi could do homework together. Nan Xi, ever thoughtful, had already completed her assignments, allowing her to check her work against his once she finished. Xia Rui expressed her gratitude, to which Nan Xi playfully reminded her of their "old rules": every time she says thank you, she must do her homework.

With Nan Xi in class, Cheng Erluo at training, and Zhao Yishu resting after a performance, a bored Xia Rui decided to explore the coffee shops from a list Nan Xi had curated. At a cafe near campus, she immediately recognized the coffee's distinct taste as Boss Yi's. She was surprised to learn that Nan Xi and Boss Yi had conspired to let her discover the cafe on her own.

Boss Yi also informed her that Coach Yang and Shengnan had moved to Binhai and introduced her to another old acquaintance, Liu Bin, who was now working there. Meanwhile, Cheng Erluo met Zhao Yishu to make up for not picking her up from her performance. He insisted on taking her for a meal, but when she subtly tried to express her feelings by suggesting hot brine—implying the company mattered more than the food—he remained oblivious.

He focused on the practicalities, like getting extra meat from the boss, leaving Zhao Yishu so exasperated that she asked if he was truly clueless or just avoiding the issue. Elsewhere, Nan Xi's roommate revealed that the entire university, including Xia Rui's campus, knew about him dancing with Yang Yufei. Nan Xi, who had been stoic about the dance, grew concerned, realizing Xia Rui must have heard the news.

Xia Rui had indeed seen the post but wrestled with her feelings, ultimately deciding not to look at it to show she trusted Nan Xi. Xia Rui stayed late at Boss Yi's cafe and, finding it more enjoyable than studying, agreed to start working there part-time. During their chat, Liu Bin affectionately referred to Yang Yufei as "Feifei" and asked about her, revealing his long-standing crush.

A call from her roommate Wan Ling alerted Xia Rui to the impending dorm curfew. She rushed back, but her phone died, and she found herself locked out for the night. With nowhere else to go, Xia Rui sought refuge at Nan Xi's apartment. He warmly welcomed her and gently combed her hair, a gesture that made her heart melt. She found comfort in the familiar scent of his shampoo on her hair and on his pillow.

Though she hoped they might share the bed, Nan Xi clarified that she would take the bed while he slept on the sofa, leaving her feeling both shy and slightly disappointed. The next morning, Xia Rui, who had been feigning sleep, was woken by the sounds of Nan Xi preparing breakfast. She felt a pang of self-doubt, wondering why nothing had happened between them, questioning her own attractiveness. Nan Xi, who had caught her pretending, encouraged her to eat.

Delighted, Xia Rui declared that he would be in charge of their future breakfasts, a role he readily accepted. At the cafe, Xia Rui encountered rude customers, particularly female students envious of her relationship with Nan Xi, who audibly questioned what he saw in someone so "ordinary." Later, when Yang Yufei visited, Liu Bin angrily confronted her about the online post, which included a poll comparing her to Xia Rui.

He accused her of intentionally trying to damage Xia Rui and Nan Xi's relationship. Yang Yufei denied creating the post, claiming she just liked the photo. Disgusted, Liu Bin declared he was blind to have ever liked someone who would undermine others and stormed off. Unfazed, Yang Yufei dismissed his outburst as "interesting," confident he would eventually apologize. Later, Xia Rui confessed her insecurities to Nan Xi, admitting the online post made her feel she wasn't good enough for him.

To reassure her, Nan Xi taught her the ballroom dance steps from his class. During their talk, Xia Rui mentioned her new job would likely cause her to be locked out of the dorms often. Hearing this, Nan Xi suggested she move in with him, reminding her that the house was half hers and already their shared home. Overwhelmed by the sudden proposal, Xia Rui said she needed to "consider" it and went to bed. As she slept, Nan Xi stood over her and softly said, "Xia Rui, welcome home."

Episode 22 Recap

Xia Rui officially moved in with Nan Xi, securing Wan Ling’s silence about their cohabitation by promising to cover her milk tea expenses for over a month. After Xia Rui spent a long time organizing her belongings, Nan Xi entered the room only to find it overflowing with various items. Xia Rui, however, proudly showed off her "perfect" storage system, which included piles of reusable clothes, designated areas for pants, and conveniently placed books.

Nan Xi, accepting her unique method, simply stated it was fine as long as she was comfortable. The following day, Nan Xi joined Xia Rui at the coffee shop at Yi Ze's invitation. Yi Ze admitted his true intention was to use Nan Xi’s good looks to attract more customers, likening him to a mascot. To compensate Xia Rui for “lending out” her boyfriend, Yi Ze, in a rare move, personally taught her the core technique of coffee latte art.

While at the cafe, Liu Bin appeared, reflecting on his past misunderstanding of Yang Yufei. He had learned from Xia Rui that Yang Yufei had actually helped delete a malicious post about her and Nan Xi on the university forum, making him realize he had wronged her. To apologize, Liu Bin ordered and attempted to drink six cups of espresso, much to Yi Ze's amused disbelief, who had secretly diluted them.

Yang Yufei, forgiving him readily, had to leave for class, leaving a relieved Liu Bin to happily clean cups. Back home, Nan Xi found Xia Rui staying up late and, assuming she was gaming, disconnected the internet at 11 PM to enforce an earlier bedtime. He then discovered she was only staying awake to keep him company while he worked on architectural designs. Feeling guilty, Nan Xi apologized.

As a condition for her forgiveness, Xia Rui demanded they play a game, and he agreed. Their playful antics ended with both covered in hard-to-wash-off marker stains, a small, endearing moment in their new living arrangement. Meanwhile, while Xia Rui's relationship flourished, Zhao Yishu felt her patience with Cheng Erluo wearing thin.

She confided in Xia Rui that she had waited for him to mature, but despite her clear hints, he remained oblivious, even offering to help another person, Si Bo, pursue her. Frustrated by his insensitivity, Zhao Yishu decided she couldn't wait any longer and found solace by focusing on her new TV show rehearsals. To ease the tension between Zhao Yishu and Cheng Erluo, Xia Rui invited them to a housewarming party, with Nan Xi preparing the meal.

During dinner, Xia Rui and Nan Xi jokingly complained about each other's cohabitation habits. Xia Rui accused Nan Xi of being overly tidy, making it impossible for her to find things he'd put away, and of walking so silently he nearly gave her heart attacks. Nan Xi, in turn, pointed out her tendency to leave things everywhere and forget to close the bathroom door. Despite their contrasting habits, both firmly believed that living together would not break their bond.

The dinner took a turn when Cheng Erluo, still oblivious, began lecturing Zhao Yishu about the pragmatism of matchmaking. His comments deeply upset Zhao Yishu, who believed love should be the foundation of a relationship. Feeling misunderstood, Zhao Yishu abruptly left the party. Cheng Erluo followed, expressing his frustration that she was ruining the gathering, still failing to grasp the true reason for her anger.

Zhao Yishu, though furious, hesitated to confess her feelings directly, fearing their friendship would be irrevocably broken. Their argument ended with them still at an impasse. Later that night, Xia Rui suddenly experienced stomach pains. A concerned Nan Xi, experiencing such a situation for the first time, nervously prepared brown sugar water and applied a heating pad after consulting Zhao Yishu for advice on dealing with menstrual cramps.

He was comically mortified when Xia Rui revealed her pain was merely from eating expired ice cream, not her period. Academically, Nan Xi’s architecture peers discussed an upcoming competition whose winner would receive a year-long exchange opportunity in Italy. Despite his clear talent, Nan Xi expressed no interest, stating he designs out of passion, not for competition. Meanwhile, Yi Ze revealed he had received an invitation to the World Barista Competition (WBC).

After feigning hesitation, he offered the opportunity to Xia Rui. Despite her initial lack of confidence, Nan Xi encouraged her, offering to accompany her to Jiangzhou for the competition and reassuring her that he believed in her abilities.

Episode 23 Recap

On a sweet, ordinary day, Xia Rui made herself a glass of ginger cola. Nan Xi, immediately concerned she had a fever, insisted on drinking it with her as a show of solidarity, despite her reassurances that she was just trying to boost her low resistance. After brewing a second glass for himself, Nan Xi's comical reaction to the unique taste amused Xia Rui, who playfully urged him to take another sip. Zhao Yishu performed poorly during her end-of-semester rehearsal.

Her senior director critiqued her inability to produce tears of resentment for a role about unrequited love, a scene that was meant to be a climax. Zhao Yishu argued that she interpreted the character's feelings not as resentment, but as silent devotion and waiting. Later, Cheng Erluo approached her, apologizing for his past immaturity.

After they both apologized for their roles in their recent conflict, he enthusiastically announced his return as her "bodyguard," eager for others to see they had reconciled. At Yami Cafe, Xia Rui was worrying about her upcoming competition when the others arrived. Si Bo also appeared but tried to leave abruptly. Cheng Erluo, however, stopped him, eager to ask about a sports video. The awkward avoidance between Si Bo and Zhao Yishu was apparent to everyone.

Though Cheng Erluo even pointed it out, he remained completely oblivious to the underlying reason and his own feelings, instead gushing to Zhao Yishu about how much he admired Si Bo. Feeling that the situation was untenable, Nan Xi unusually intervened, encouraging Zhao Yishu to confess her feelings to Cheng Erluo. He used drinks as a metaphor, explaining that human emotions encompass various tastes that both parties must experience and understand.

Though Zhao Yishu felt it would be awkward, Nan Xi stressed that with a third party like Si Bo involved, she couldn't just let things be, especially since Cheng Erluo was too insensitive to figure it out himself. Zhao Yishu finally agreed to tell Cheng Erluo the truth after her end-of-semester report. The much-anticipated coffee machine, a reward for Xia Rui's past efforts, arrived.

She immediately declared that both she and Nan Xi would be "guinea pigs," testing new recipes together. She presented Nan Xi with various concoctions, explaining her methods, but Nan Xi struggled to taste the promised flavors and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of samples. Their tasting session culminated in a sleepless night of constant trips to the bathroom, leaving them both exhausted. As the coffee competition approached, Xia Rui perfected her recipes but felt her latte art lacked originality.

Boss Yi's advice that "the highest level of latte art is originality" resonated deeply with her. To help, Nan Xi guided her hand as she sketched designs, focusing on the "Baby Whale" pattern that held special meaning for them. He meticulously taught her how to make the design more intricate and less monotonous, bringing them even closer. Nan Xi's final exam and Xia Rui's coffee competition unfortunately fell on the same day.

After exchanging heartfelt encouragement, Xia Rui began the preliminary round. She performed admirably, earning an approving smile from Boss Yi, and it was soon announced that she had successfully entered the rematch along with four other contestants. However, the rematch was scheduled to start in just three hours, and an unprepared Xia Rui grew nervous.

Boss Yi advised her to clear her mind and think only of the person she loved most, assuring her that coffee made with such an intention would be the best. Meanwhile, after receiving a message from Xia Rui, Nan Xi rushed through his exam, submitting his paper half an hour early without checking it, and raced to the competition venue. He arrived just as Xia Rui was finishing her "Baby Whale" latte art, skillfully adding ocean waves around the design.

Xia Rui and Nan Xi nervously held hands awaiting the results but learned they had not qualified for the finals. Unfazed, Xia Rui felt that even reaching the rematch was an unexpected surprise. She consoled a visibly disappointed Nan Xi, assuring him that the coffee she made that day, despite not winning, was the best she had ever tasted. While Nan Xi was in the restroom, an Italian judge, Mr. Umberto, approached Xia Rui.

He expressed profound admiration for her talent and unique understanding of coffee, extending an invitation for her to study professionally in Italy. Xia Rui respectfully declined, explaining that she and Nan Xi had fought hard for her to remain in China after high school, and accepting the offer would invalidate their past struggles. Mr. Umberto understood her devotion to people more important than dreams and left his card in case she changed her mind. Unbeknownst to Xia Rui, Nan Xi had returned just in time to overhear their entire conversation.

Episode 24 Recap

Upon returning home after a competition, Xia Rui prepared a feast, but Nan Xi's attention was drawn to her scalded hand. Pained by her injury, Nan Xi gently yet firmly declared that he would take over the cooking from now on, forbidding her from the kitchen.

At Yami Cafe, Xia Rui's competition coffee, "Little Whale," was launched as a new product, serving as another opportunity for Nan Xi and Xia Rui to display their affection, much to the exasperation of Cheng Erluo and Liu Bin. During this time, Xia Rui's friends expressed concern about her decision to give up the opportunity to study in Italy. Xia Rui explained that she was staying to help Yami shine.

To her surprise, Nan Xi then revealed that he had already registered her for language classes at Mr. Umberto's training school. Although Xia Rui initially resisted, Nan Xi proposed they go to Italy together. Determined to ensure their future together, Nan Xi later sought out Professor Gu to confirm that the first-place winner of the upcoming College Student's Design Competition for architecture would receive an exchange student opportunity in Milan.

Despite his usual aversion to competitions, Nan Xi declared his intention to participate, stating that he would do it to be with Xia Rui. Cheng Erluo finished his basketball training and received a dinner invitation from Zhao Yishu. He was excited, believing it would be a casual group meal, and even encouraged Si Bo to join them, hoping it might ease any tension between Si Bo and Zhao Yishu.

However, upon reaching the restaurant, Si Bo immediately noticed Zhao Yishu sitting alone, evidently nervous and expectant. Recognizing the romantic significance of the chosen venue, Si Bo excused himself, telling Cheng Erluo that he hoped he would become a better version of himself. Cheng Erluo, oblivious to Si Bo's true intention, felt deeply moved by his words. At the table, Zhao Yishu explained that Nan Xi and Xia Rui couldn't make it.

Cheng Erluo, still focused on Si Bo's encouraging words, enthusiastically recounted how Si Bo had inspired him. Zhao Yishu grew increasingly anxious, struggling to express her true feelings. As she attempted to confess, Cheng Erluo repeatedly emphasized their "friendship," using terms like "best friends," "buddies," and "bestie." This made Zhao Yishu unable to voice her confession, and she eventually gave up, excusing herself by saying she wasn't feeling well.

Later, Zhao Yishu visited Xia Rui, confiding that she hadn't confessed to Cheng Erluo. She admitted that her life had always been very structured by her parents and even Xia Rui's protection, making her question if her feelings for Cheng Erluo were genuine love or merely a habit formed from his constant presence since childhood. She felt the need to re-evaluate her feelings and asked Xia Rui to keep their conversation confidential from Cheng Erluo and Nan Xi.

Nan Xi then returned home, and Zhao Yishu quickly departed. One evening, Liu Bin, after finishing work, spotted Yang Yufei walking alone. Noticing a suspicious man stealthily following her, he immediately drove after them. When the man attempted to attack Yang Yufei in a secluded alley, Liu Bin intervened just in time, subduing the assailant.

He then calmed the visibly shaken Yang Yufei, offering her his phone number and assuring her he would accompany her home whenever needed, declaring that he would always protect his friends. As Liu Bin drove her home, Yang Yufei felt a strong sense of security. She recalled that Liu Bin's past exam results were only slightly lower than Xia Rui's.

She encouraged him to consider retaking the university entrance exam, recognizing his meticulous, patient, quick-minded, righteous, and sentimental qualities, assuring him he could achieve it. Liu Bin, deeply touched by her words, promised to consider it. The upcoming architectural design competition's theme was "First Impression." Nan Xi and Xia Rui, however, interpreted the most beautiful aspect of life not as initial attraction but as the enduring understanding and companionship found after getting to know each other.

Their design concept revolved around two imperfect pieces of wood coming together to form a perfect whole, symbolizing their own relationship. They embarked on a search for suitable wood, visiting several shops without success and even getting caught trying to collect wood from trees in a park. Eventually, Uncle Wang, a helpful acquaintance, directed them to a large root carving market.

There, Nan Xi found two seemingly "rotten" pieces of wood that, despite their irregular shapes, had originated from the same tree and were root-connected, having "lived together" for approximately 360 years. Nan Xi and Xia Rui recognized these pieces as the perfect embodiment of their theme of lasting companionship.

Episode 25 Recap

As the competition drew near, Nan Xi was deeply engrossed in his artwork, meticulously cleaning wood pieces that transformed from decaying scraps into something extraordinary under his touch. His friends, Hao Tian and Panghu, served as his biggest supporters, diligently assisting him. To express her gratitude, Xia Rui prepared a generous spread of tea and snacks, explaining the large quantity was for Nan Xi to share with his helpful roommates.

Confident in Nan Xi's victory, Hao Tian and Panghu joked about how they should be credited for their help. One evening, a sudden power outage plunged the area into darkness, startling Xia Rui, who was showering. Her cry alerted Nan Xi, leading to an awkward encounter where he repeatedly insisted he "didn't see anything" to a flustered Xia Rui. They sat far apart on the sofa, a palpable tension between them.

Noticing Xia Rui's wet hair, Nan Xi gently took a towel and began to dry it for her. Xia Rui remarked that his tender care reminded her of her grandmother, making her feel profoundly at ease. As a comfortable silence enveloped them, they instinctively leaned closer, their lips almost meeting. However, at that precise moment, the electricity returned. The sudden light shattered the intimate atmosphere, and a mortified Xia Rui quickly retreated to her bedroom, internally chastising herself.

Nan Xi, equally flustered, acknowledged the boundary they had almost crossed. The night before the competition, Xia Rui stayed up with Nan Xi to put the finishing touches on his elaborate artwork. Exhausted, they both fell into a deep sleep, waking abruptly at eleven in the morning. Realizing the submission deadline was noon, panic set in.

Nan Xi's piece, a "water flowing table" design that had earned the highest score in the preliminaries, was too large and heavy to move on their own. Xia Rui desperately called a moving company, only to be informed all vehicles were busy. With time rapidly dwindling and the organizers calling to inquire about the missing piece, Xia Rui urgently reached out to Si Bo for assistance. With just minutes to spare, Si Bo arrived with his car.

Together, they managed to transport Nan Xi's artwork to the exhibition hall just as the event was about to begin. At the 18th Binhai University Student's Creative Design Competition, Nan Xi unveiled his piece: a "solid ocean" with two irregularly shaped wood pieces as neighboring islands. Explaining the theme "First Impression," Nan Xi stated that while many consider it fleeting, he believes it can be eternal.

He described the wood pieces, which came from the same tree that had stood for a century, as a symbol of a lasting promise. He acknowledged their flaws, comparing them to people who are born imperfect. However, he argued that when these individuals find each other and embrace, they become complete. During the press conference, when asked about acquisition offers from design companies, Nan Xi firmly stated his work was "not for sale," as it "belongs to Xia Rui."

He explained that "without Xia Rui, there would be no first impression," and to the crowd's delight, publicly declared she was his girlfriend. To thank Si Bo for his crucial assistance, Xia Rui organized a celebratory meal. However, Cheng Erluo, who usually admired Si Bo, displayed unexpected hostility towards him. Earlier, Cheng Erluo had seen Zhao Yishu in Si Bo's car, fueling his fear of losing her.

This fear was compounded by recent events: Zhao Yishu had stopped attending his basketball games, telling him she was "never a basketball fan," and Xia Rui had urged him to look up the "Best Restaurant" online, a place known for romantic confessions, to understand what Zhao Yishu had been trying to tell him during their failed date there.

At the meal, a drunk Cheng Erluo lamented his own shortcomings compared to Nan Xi and urged him to take care of Xia Rui in Italy, though Nan Xi's plans were unconfirmed. As the evening progressed, an intoxicated Cheng Erluo confronted Si Bo, telling him to leave. When Zhao Yishu arrived, Cheng Erluo drunkenly admitted that he was a fool, a label she had given him before.

He loudly and repeatedly confessed, "Zhao Yishu, I like you," insisting it was the truth. He admitted he was sad seeing her with someone else and hurt by her absence from his games. Zhao Yishu pressed him, asking if his declaration stemmed from genuine affection or simply from being unaccustomed to her absence. He replied that he finally understood why she wasn't a basketball fan and wanted to be her "prince," awkwardly asking her to dance.

In turn, Zhao Yishu revealed she had waited for him for years, only to be met with indifference. She explained that just as she had finally decided to move on, he chose to confess. Overwhelmed, she pushed him away, stating she needed time to think. As she left, a desperate Cheng Erluo called out, promising to wait for her.

Episode 26 Recap

Nan Xi returned home extremely drunk, clutching a wine bottle tightly. He confessed it was his first time drinking but found it "really good," adamantly refusing to give up the bottle because Xia Rui had bought it for him. He declared, "Xia Rui is mine. No one is allowed to snatch her." Although disoriented and unable to recognize Xia Rui, he instinctively obeyed her.

To coax him to sleep, Xia Rui proposed a game where they would count to three and see who could sleep the longest. Nan Xi immediately succumbed to sleep, and in his slumber, he softly murmured Xia Rui's name, promising they would "definitely be together forever and ever." Xia Rui was deeply touched by his heartfelt words. The next morning, Nan Xi woke with a headache.

When he admitted he might drink again, Xia Rui playfully scolded him for being disobedient. With the design competition over, Xia Rui told Nan Xi she would work diligently to avoid dragging him down, vowing to study Italian rigorously so she could "go to Italy with you." She even devised a slogan, "I'll try hard. I'll succeed. I'm going to Italy," which Nan Xi, after some reluctance, joined her in chanting.

Later, while Xia Rui was working at the Yami coffee shop, Yang Yufei arrived to drop off materials for Binzi, who was considering taking the university entrance exam. Learning that Xia Rui was studying Italian, Yufei shared that Xia Rui had been hand-picked by an Italian master during a coffee competition, who offered her a year of study abroad if she mastered the language.

Yufei, who had a second degree in Italian, generously offered to help Xia Rui with daily conversation practice in exchange for a VIP card at the coffee shop. The two also seized the opportunity to apologize for past misunderstandings. Yufei admitted she had envied Xia Rui in high school, seeing her as effortlessly "free and at ease" with a loyal group of friends who called her "boss." They immediately commenced their first Italian lesson.

As the design competition results were still pending, everyone was optimistic, noting that Nan Xi's entry held a commanding first-place lead, almost guaranteeing his win. With the New Year fast approaching, Nan Xi's mother announced that she and Xia Rui's mother, Jing, had decided to celebrate together. This led Binzi to observe that the two mothers had become so close they "should be together," before playfully teasing Xia Rui about her own relationship "good news," a question she quickly deflected.

On New Year's Eve, Nan Xi and his mother arrived at Xia Rui's home and were warmly welcomed by her family. Playful banter ensued, with Xia Rui's brother, Chen Hao, amusingly misusing an idiom to describe Xia Rui, prompting a correction from her. Xia Rui's mother suggested that Nan Xi should take care of Xia Rui, but Nan Xi gently corrected her, stating that it was Xia Rui who took care of him.

Binzi then remarked on the mothers' deepening friendship and humorously recalled an incident where Xia Rui's mother, while drunk, had complained to her husband, President Ren, that after raising their daughter for eighteen years, she couldn't bear the thought of Nan Xi whisking her away to Italy. Afterward, Xia Rui patiently taught Nan Xi how to make dumplings. As the New Year countdown began, both families gathered, exchanging warm wishes and red packets.

Xia Rui's grandfather presented Nan Xi with a red packet, affectionately calling him his "grandson-in-law," and Nan Xi's mother gave Xia Rui a thoughtful gift: a set of handmade coffee pots. Following the joyous countdown, Nan Xi and Xia Rui, surrounded by their families, exchanged heartfelt "I like yous." Later, Nan Xi's mother sought out Xia Rui to express her profound gratitude. She noted that Nan Xi had been smiling significantly more since Xia Rui entered his life.

She confessed her past worries about their relationship and her own shortcomings as a mother, admitting she had "never asked Nan Xi what he needed" and hadn't truly understood him. She credited Xia Rui with helping her "know Nan Xi all over again" and expressed her complete trust, stating she now felt comfortable "handing Nan Xi over" to her. Touched, Xia Rui promised to take good care of Nan Xi and ensure no one would bully him.

After the New Year festivities, the day of the awards ceremony arrived. Xia Rui carefully selected an outfit for Nan Xi, telling him he "must look handsome on stage" and assuring him of her unwavering support. Backstage, Hao Tian, Cheng Erluo, and Xia Rui gathered to calm Nan Xi's nerves. Hao Tian playfully advised Nan Xi to imagine the audience was him if he felt nervous, while Xia Rui coached him through deep breathing exercises.

The awards ceremony began but was abruptly interrupted by Professor Gu, who announced that Nan Xi was being sued for infringement, leading to the cancellation of his entry, ranking, and bonus. Stunned, his friends immediately protested, while Nan Xi vehemently denied any plagiarism. Professor Gu urged them to discuss it after the ceremony, but Xia Rui insisted they could not wait, accusing someone of framing Nan Xi. Despite their protests, the organizing committee proceeded to announce Nan Xi's withdrawal.

As staff attempted to remove them, Xia Rui demanded evidence, and a magazine featuring an identical design was presented. Nan Xi then discovered his original design diagram for the water-flowing table was missing. At the same time, Binzi arrived and showed them a campus forum post announcing Nan Xi's disqualification for plagiarism, solidifying their realization that he was being framed. Hao Tian pointed out that even if the missing diagram were found, it would lack credibility.

Professor Gu explained the identical design had appeared in "Ge Wu" magazine, submitted by an anonymous private designer, making the original author untraceable. He suggested that proving Nan Xi's idea for the water-flowing table originated "two months ago" could clear his name, but admitted this was difficult. He advised keeping the matter quiet to avoid an official investigation, which could lead to Nan Xi's expulsion. Nan Xi, however, insisted on facing the investigation to prove his innocence.

Xia Rui questioned if he was doing it for her, saying they didn't need to go to Italy to be together. But Nan Xi, pointing to her collection of Italian books, revealed he knew how much she cherished the opportunity and declared, "I do not want to break our promise." Xia Rui then proposed they wait for the controversy to subside and apply to study in Italy independently, acknowledging the plagiarism accusation would hinder their admission.

Episode 27 Recap

Noticing Xia Rui studying books about Italy, Nan Xi worried she was sacrificing her dream of going abroad for his sake. Xia Rui reassured him, recalling how his past decision to stay in China after high school had been the right one, as it led to her entering the World Barista Competition. Believing this new challenge was similar, she declared her resolve to face the plagiarism issue head-on so they could fulfill their shared dream of going to Italy.

Strengthened by her conviction, Nan Xi agreed, feeling they could overcome anything together. Xia Rui, Nan Xi, Cheng Erluo, and Zhao Yishu gathered to formulate a plan. Xia Rui proposed a two-pronged approach: first, contact the magazine for the contributor's information, with Si Bo's help, to prove there was no connection between the parties. Second, find Nan Xi's original design files to establish that his work predated the magazine's publication.

The group divided the tasks, with Nan Xi searching for his original design while Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu handled communication with the magazine. As Zhao Yishu drafted an email, Cheng Erluo grew emotional over the magazine's weak response. Zhao Yishu calmly explained their strategy: by pursuing the matter, they would also highlight the organizer's negligence in publishing a work without verifying its originality.

Cheng Erluo then shifted the topic, trying to mend things with Zhao Yishu by inviting her to his first-ever CUBA league debut match. Despite her noncommittal reply, he insisted he would save her a VIP seat. Meanwhile, students gossiped relentlessly about Nan Xi's alleged plagiarism, comparing him unfavorably to the second-place winner, Gao Ting. Hao Tian and Panghu's attempts to defend Nan Xi online proved futile.

Overwhelmed in class, Nan Xi instinctively tried to retreat under his hat, but Xia Rui gently placed headphones on his ears, offering him a moment of peace and silently reaffirming her unwavering support. Later, Cheng Erluo lamented to Nan Xi and Xia Rui about Zhao Yishu’s continued coldness. They promised to attend his game to cheer him on, but he remained anxious about her absence.

Elsewhere, Hao Tian was compiling a post to defend Nan Xi when Cheng Erluo playfully snatched his phone, discovering Hao Tian's private account filled with photos of Nan Xi. Among them was a crucial picture showing Nan Xi working on his design, with a clearly visible timestamp on the computer screen, providing the perfect evidence. They immediately presented the photo to Professor Gu.

After reviewing the evidence, he confirmed it proved Nan Xi's innocence and promised to report it to the school administration, assuring them the award ceremony would be reorganized and Nan Xi's academic standing would be unaffected. They also decided to forward the photo to the magazine. Despite this victory, Cheng Erluo’s personal life remained fraught. He again confronted Zhao Yishu, confessing he only started playing basketball because of her.

She remained firm, stating she did not like basketball and had decided to move on from their past. During his debut match, Cheng Erluo suffered a leg injury. Zhao Yishu received an urgent call and rushed to the hospital. Seeing him injured, she was flooded with childhood memories of encouraging "Chubby Cheng" to play basketball and making a pinky promise to always support him.

At his bedside, Cheng Erluo expressed his regret for not realizing her importance sooner and his wish to have won the game for her. Deeply moved, Zhao Yishu finally let her guard down, and the two reconciled with a heartfelt embrace. Now officially a couple, Cheng Erluo and Zhao Yishu were openly affectionate. Meanwhile, the magazine, having received the photo evidence, emailed the anonymous contributor's contact information and offered to issue a formal apology.

The group's attempt to add the contributor on QQ was rejected, though they noted the profile picture was of a girl. Nan Xi, however, no longer cared about the plagiarist's identity and considered the matter resolved. Just as they forwarded the contact to Hao Tian and Panghu for investigation, Nan Xi received a call confirming that the owner of the email address had been found.

Episode 28 (Ending) Recap

After discovering that the same email address used to frame Nan Xi for plagiarism was also used to submit a design for a school award, Hao Tian traced the owner to Gao Ting. The search had been difficult because Gao Ting was reclusive and kept no contact with anyone in his department. While Xia Rui and Hao Tian were furious, Nan Xi wished to meet Gao Ting calmly.

Having previously seen Gao Ting's early design work, Nan Xi noticed a stark difference between his past and recent designs. He believed Gao Ting had lost his way, and his inner world had become as fragmented as his current work, which is why Nan Xi wanted to talk to him. Gao Ting was tricked into meeting Nan Xi at a cafe, where he defiantly admitted to the plagiarism scheme.

He challenged Nan Xi to expose him, expressing deep resentment for what he perceived as Nan Xi's superior attitude. Gao Ting confessed that he felt Nan Xi had stolen his spotlight, making him feel mediocre after having always been considered a genius. He claimed he had tried to befriend Nan Xi, but misinterpreted Nan Xi's social anxiety as disdain. Nan Xi, unmoved, questioned if that was the only reason, asking, "Does others' failure mean nothing to you?"

Nan Xi decided against publicly exposing Gao Ting, stating he only ever wanted to clear his name, not punish anyone. Having experienced the pain of being gossiped about himself, he simply told Gao Ting he wished they had never met and that their paths would never cross again. Subsequently, the magazine published a formal apology, and the school prepared a new award ceremony for Nan Xi. Before the ceremony, Nan Xi asked Xia Rui about her dreams for the future.

She shared her hope to be with the person she loves, become a barista, and own a coffee shop, and Nan Xi promised to help her achieve it. On stage, Nan Xi acknowledged that the honor was hard-won and dedicated his award to his friends and to Xia Rui, his inspiration, stating, "Without you guys, there would not be this moment."

In a heartfelt reflection, Nan Xi mused that his life once felt like a lonely boat adrift in darkness until Xia Rui appeared like a lighthouse, illuminating his path. She brought warmth and laughter into his world, giving him the courage to love and grow. He concluded that meeting her was the best thing that ever happened to him. Three years later, their lives have evolved.

Zhao Yishu is a sought-after actress, while Cheng Erluo has become a basketball star in Binhai, though he still playfully calls Yishu his "wife." Encouraged by Yang Yufei, Liu Bin gained admission to Binhai University, and the two are now a couple. Nan Xi and Xia Rui have just returned from Italy, eager for the familiar comforts of home.

Before they left, Nan Xi had bought the house they used to rent, valuing the memories it held far more than its now-skyrocketing monetary worth. The group of friends reunited at Nan Xi and Xia Rui's home for a celebratory dinner, also intending to help plan the wedding for Yi and Coach Yang Shengnan. However, their plans were upended when a cake arrived with a note from Yi.

He announced that he and Shengnan, realizing their dream was to travel the world together, had decided on a travel wedding and had already departed. In the note, Yi also entrusted his beloved Yami Cafe to Xia Rui, calling her the most talented barista he knew. Though surprised, the friends continued their joyful reunion. During the gathering, Xia Rui reflected in a voiceover that their adult lives had turned out even better than they had imagined.

She felt as though time had paused, with everyone still embodying their essential selves, and she expressed gratitude for their enduring bond. Later, at the closed Yami Cafe, Xia Rui contemplated Yi's offer. Nan Xi was supportive, suggesting he would reserve a spot in the cafe for her to use as a desk for her future work as an independent designer.

The episode ends with the two reflecting on their good fortune, as Xia Rui tells Nan Xi that meeting him was the luckiest thing that ever happened to her, a sentiment he warmly returned.
