The episode begins with a hopeful phone call from Professor Chen to Xu Xiaodong and Lei Chuxia. He announces that his lab has received a generous donation, providing the necessary funds to develop a device that can control Chuxia's unstable energy. Overjoyed, Chuxia realizes this could be her ticket to freedom and a reunion with her parents.
What she doesn't know is that Xu Xiaodong orchestrated the entire thing, having his friend Jin Xiaorui make the donation under the guise of the famous game developer, Winter. Xiaorui created a cover story, telling the professor that Winter needed his expertise for a new universe-themed game. Seeing Chuxia's radiant smile, Xiaodong feels his efforts are all worthwhile.
He continues his charade as the benevolent Winter, using the foundation's funds to arrange for Chuxia's parents to attend a recuperation program at a nearby nursing home, giving them a much-needed rest. However, a new threat emerges at the lab. Professor Chen's ambitious student, Wang Yixin, learns about Chuxia and sees her not as a person in need, but as a priceless scientific specimen.
He argues that experimenting on someone transported through time is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could lead to historic breakthroughs. Professor Chen is appalled by the suggestion of human experimentation and sternly forbids it, reminding his student that the purpose of science is to bring happiness, not harm. Despite the warning, Wang Yixin remains fixated on his unethical plan. Meanwhile, Wei Xuanhe grows increasingly desperate in his search for Chuxia since seeing her at the memorial.
Frustrated by the lack of progress, he coldly dismisses a concerned Qin Yue, leaving her heartbroken. Shortly after, Zhao Yaoyang, the founder of Yao Yang Tech, pays him a visit to discuss the "Family Always Present" app, a new system from Xuanhe's company, Shan Yun Hulian. The app's launch is stalled by technical difficulties, and Zhao impatiently suggests that Xuanhe plagiarize the work of a smaller, unprotected team.
When Xuanhe balks at the idea, Zhao ominously reminds him of their past, revealing that ten years ago, they stole the work of Xu Xiaodong's father, Xu Weiyi. With her parents away at the nursing home, Chuxia convinces Xiaodong to take her to her family home in hopes of jogging her memory. Though she doesn't recall much, she instinctively knows where her parents hide the spare key.
Inside, they find old photos and childhood essays, but nothing substantial comes back to her. Xiaodong then takes her to a dessert shop called Summer Time, where they find a young woman, Yuan Yuan, pleading with the landlord to let her continue renting the closed shop. She reveals she has been paying the rent for ten years, waiting for her best friend to return. That friend is Chuxia.
Their reunion is emotional, though Yuan Yuan is devastated to learn of Chuxia's amnesia. She immediately begins sharing stories of their lifelong friendship to help Chuxia remember. Their reunion is interrupted by the arrival of Wei Xuanhe, who tracked Chuxia to the shop. Yuan Yuan is openly hostile towards him for refusing to cancel the memorial's livestream when she called him. Xuanhe ignores her and introduces himself to Chuxia as her boyfriend.
When Chuxia questions him about her disappearance ten years ago, he lies, claiming he was too busy with his startup and simply found her gone one night. He offers to help her regain her memories, suggesting they meet at their old university. Although Xiaodong is suspicious and jealous, Chuxia is desperate for answers and agrees to meet him. The next day, Xiaodong reluctantly accompanies Chuxia to meet Xuanhe at Tongcheng University.
The two men are immediately at odds, with Xiaodong constantly making sarcastic remarks as Xuanhe attempts to recreate romantic moments from his and Chuxia's past. He takes her to a tree where he claims she used to wait for him and to the library where he alleges she confessed her love. Chuxia, however, feels no connection to these supposed memories, only an increasing sense of awkwardness.
During their tense tour of the campus, Xiaodong receives a call from Professor Chen with fantastic news: the energy-controlling device, fashioned into a bracelet, is complete. Back at the lab, after Chen proudly places the finished bracelet on his desk and leaves, Wang Yixin sneaks in. Muttering about Chuxia being a unique specimen he cannot let go, he tampers with the device, adding a sinister component for his own secret experiment.
