Xu Xiaodong effortlessly bypasses the security at Yao Yang Tech and confronts Zhao Yaoyang in his office. He gives Zhao a 24-hour ultimatum: reveal the truth about the patent theft from ten years ago, or Xu Xiaodong will expose all of Zhao's dirty secrets. A panicked Zhao Yaoyang immediately calls Wei Xuanhe, warning him that he underestimated Xu Xiaodong and that their past secrets are about to be uncovered. He then retreats to a secret villa to hide.
Furious that Zhao is trying to shirk responsibility, Wei Xuanhe orders his assistant, Li Geng, to find Zhao and to keep a close watch on both Xu Xiaodong and Lei Chuxia. Xu Xiaodong, having discovered the location of Zhao's villa through his own investigation, prepares to stake out the location with Jin Xiaorui. Feeling that he is being followed and not wanting to endanger Lei Chuxia, he tells Jin Xiaorui to keep their destination a secret from her.
However, Yuan Yuan gets the information from Jin Xiaorui and, believing Lei Chuxia has a right to be involved in clearing her own name, accompanies her to the villa. The two women follow the men, and the four of them set up camp outside the property. Xu Xiaodong has installed a motion capture system that will alert them to any activity inside, allowing them to rest.
That evening, as they wait, Xu Xiaodong sits under an old tree, lost in thought. He tells Lei Chuxia that the spot reminds him of his father, who used to share his joys and sorrows with a tree just like it. He opens up about his rebellious youth and his determination to clear his father's name.
As they gaze at the stars, he points out the Neo comet, explaining that it won't pass by Earth again for another six thousand years. Lei Chuxia muses that its return must be a "trajectory of love," drawn back by something it holds dear on Earth. Just then, a meteor streaks across the sky, and she quickly makes a wish. Their romantic moment is abruptly interrupted by Yuan Yuan and Jin Xiaorui.
Later that night, to ensure the women can sleep peacefully in the tent, Xu Xiaodong and Jin Xiaorui sit outside, offering themselves up as bait for the mosquitoes. The next morning, Zhao Yaoyang finally emerges from the villa, only to be ambushed by Li Geng and his men. Xu Xiaodong's alarm goes off, and he rushes in to help, saving Zhao from a severe beating. During the fight, Xu Xiaodong's arm is badly injured.
In return for his help, Zhao Yaoyang reveals a piece of the truth: the patent was given to him by a woman named Gu Xiaoqi. Xu Xiaodong is stunned, recognizing her as his father's trusted secretary. Zhao refuses to say more, telling them that Wei Xuanhe knows everything. Xu Xiaodong is rushed to the hospital, where his arm requires over twenty stitches. Enraged and worried, Lei Chuxia goes to Cyber Tech to confront Wei Xuanhe.
She accuses him of colluding with others to steal the patent and frame her. Wei Xuanhe coldly denies everything and demands proof. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lei Chuxia removes her bracelet, causing the lights and electronics in his office to flicker and short out, a silent threat of her uncontrolled power. Though he appears calm, Wei Xuanhe is secretly terrified.
He immediately contacts Wang Yixin, demanding that he repair his machine and make Lei Chuxia disappear, uncaring of the risk that she could be permanently lost in the universe. Meanwhile, Yuan Yuan shows Lei Chuxia some old photos from their university days with a person cut out. She reveals that the missing person is Gu Xiaoqi, who was once their close friend. However, their friendship became strained for unknown reasons shortly before Lei Chuxia's disappearance ten years ago.
After she vanished, Gu Xiaoqi never once reached out, which prompted an angry Yuan Yuan to literally cut her out of their memories. The new lead seems promising, but when Xu Xiaodong and Lei Chuxia go to Gu Xiaoqi's last known address, they learn from a neighbor that she died in a car accident eight years prior. Once again, their investigation hits a dead end.
In the wake of his confession, Xu Xiaodong and Lei Chuxia find themselves feeling awkward when they're alone together. Noticing the strange tension, Yuan Yuan advises Lei Chuxia to be direct and confess her own feelings. However, her attempts are repeatedly and comically thwarted by an oblivious Jin Xiaorui. As an apology for his interruptions, Jin Xiaorui gives Lei Chuxia two tickets to a "Future of High-Tech Artificial Intelligence" exhibition, knowing it's something Xu Xiaodong would love.
Lei Chuxia gives the tickets to Xu Xiaodong, hoping he'll understand it's an invitation for a date. Instead, he gets excited about the exhibition and immediately suggests taking Jin Xiaorui, completely missing her romantic intentions.
