Jiang Tianling found himself continually preoccupied with Zhe Zhi, often staring at her shoes, unable to focus on his studies. Later, Shui Wuxia inquired about Jiang Tianling's analysis of the prescription. He confirmed it was meant for irregular menstruation, which perplexed them as Jiang Baiyu's father and Ma Rulong would not have needed such a remedy, and Thousand Horses Hall had previously tested their drugs on men.

Shui Wuxia then speculated that the arrangement of the medicine cabinets might have changed from seven years ago. Jiang Baiyu remembered renovating the cabinet two months prior due to worm damage, potentially altering the herb placement. Fortunately, Jiang Tianling vividly recalled the original layout of the herbs. He discovered the prescription actually targeted a hidden heat/skin condition and issues arising from conflicting medicines. However, he concluded it was a "poison to quench thirst," designed to hasten death.

It appeared Jiang Baiyu's father's prescription remained unfinished. Shui Wuxia waited on the roof, convinced she understood Ma Rulong's intentions. She believed her brother was killed for refusing to test drugs for him and vowed to uncover the truth. As she wondered why Shen Qingli hadn't arrived, a note was thrown to her, instructing her to meet in a backstreet alley. Meanwhile, Fang Yuncheng was preparing medicine for Qi Delong's father.

When Qi Delong asked, Fang Yuncheng explained it was a tonic to supplement him. Qi Delong angrily remarked that her father's constant indulgence at Lantern Boudoir was the obvious cause of his poor health, declaring he needed more than a Qi supplement; he needed a "heart supplement," and Fang Yuncheng himself needed a "brain supplement" for being so nosy.

She sternly told him that his efforts to curry favor with her father would not make her like him, but rather increase her dislike. Fang Yuncheng expressed surprise at her strong hatred for her father, to which Qi Delong retorted that she disliked him, Fang Yuncheng, just as much for meddling. Following the note's instructions, Shui Wuxia walked through the streets, captivated by fireworks and a lively band playing on a bridge.

Her delight grew when a flower vendor presented her with flowers. However, the vendor then asked Shui Wuxia for payment, revealing that "Young Master Jiang" (Jiang Baiyu) had forgotten to pay. Shen Qingli, who had been observing from afar, quickly disappeared to avoid being discovered. Later, Shen Qingli privately reflected that Shui Wuxia's "extra dosage of spiritual herbs" for his supposed wound had almost caused him to "explode and die" since his injury had already healed.

Shui Wuxia, still believing Shen Qingli to be jealous, later met him and hastily explained that her relationship with Jiang Baiyu was merely a pretense and that she couldn't possibly like Jiang Baiyu, asking him not to misunderstand. In criminal investigation class, Hou Chang'an presented an unsolved case: a woman with a knife wound, found floating in the river, accompanied by a man. Qi Delong immediately suspected murder, puzzled why the man would drown if he were the killer.

The case file revealed the woman was a noble lady and the man a servant, yet both wore mandarin duck perfume sachets, hinting at a secret relationship. The lady's father claimed he witnessed the man injuring and abducting his daughter. Shui Wuxia interjected that love shouldn't be so impulsive and one must accept when others don't return their feelings. The lady's maid, however, stated that the knife wound was inflicted after death.

Qi Delong then deduced that the father was likely lying, inflicting the wound on his deceased daughter to cover up the disgrace of her elopement. Meanwhile, Jiang Baiyu opened the door from Zhe Zhi's room and found Jiang Tianling outside, realizing his younger brother seemed to have feelings for Zhe Zhi.

Jiang Baiyu cautioned his brother that he and Zhe Zhi were not a good match, citing their contrasting personalities: Zhe Zhi was unrestrained and inconsistent, while Jiang Tianling was mature and conventional. Zhe Zhi was skilled in singing and dancing, whereas Jiang Tianling was tone-deaf. He firmly believed they were unsuitable. That night, Shui Wuxia, unable to sleep, went to the roof. Shen Qingli found her there and invited her to be a hero with him.

She readily agreed, and together they embarked on a series of good deeds: providing silver to a man with an eye injury so he could seek treatment, rescuing a kidnapped girl, and delivering food to poor families.
