Love Like White Jade Episode 2 Recap
> Love Like White Jade Recap
Shui Wuxia and Qi Delong arrived at the Jiang Mansion and greeted Old Madam Jiang, who complimented their beauty. Recognizing Qi Delong, Old Madam Jiang then asked Shui Wuxia if she was indeed Shui Wuxia, realizing that she and Jiang Baiyu had already met. Shui Wuxia explained that she had intervened when Jiang Baiyu encountered some trouble recently, a fact Jiang Baiyu confirmed. Old Madam Jiang then understood why Jiang Baiyu had previously wanted Shui Wuxia to be his maid.
However, Jiang Baiyu quickly denied it, claiming Shui Wuxia was too wilful and rash for him. Old Madam Jiang was perplexed, noting that he had just been praising her and reminding him that Shui Wuxia was considered the top maid at Lang Ya Pavilion. Jiang Baiyu dismissed this as a mere rumor, doubting her true competence. Master Jiang suggested a pitch-pot competition, a popular game in Chong'an, which Old Madam Jiang approved.
Shui Wuxia flawlessly threw an arrow into the pot, earning praise from Old Madam Jiang. Jiang Baiyu, however, insisted that a Lang Ya Pavilion maid, being an advisor, should not be judged on such skills. He challenged Shui Wuxia to teach him how to make a shot, promising to take her surname if he succeeded. Shui Wuxia accepted.
As Jiang Baiyu prepared to deliberately miss, Shui Wuxia surprised everyone by guiding his hand and steadying his posture, ensuring the arrow landed perfectly. Old Madam Jiang, impressed by Shui Wuxia's martial prowess and ability to silence Jiang Baiyu with her words, declared that Shui Wuxia would be Jiang Baiyu’s advisor. Jiang Baiyu attempted to protest, pointing out that he had met Shui Wuxia in the Lantern Boudoir, hinting at her unsuitability.
Shui Wuxia countered that she was there to bid on a treasure, unlike his indulgence in "physical pleasures," and warned that he might suffer "physical damage" if she became his advisor. He expressed his preference for Qi Delong, citing bad luck whenever Shui Wuxia was near. However, Qi Delong humbly stated that Jiang Baiyu's rebellious nature was beyond her capabilities and that the clever Shui Wuxia was a better match.
Convinced, Old Madam Jiang finalized her decision, believing only Shui Wuxia could tame him. Shui Wuxia immediately took charge, discarding many of Jiang Baiyu’s "useless items." She informed him that only Old Madam Jiang and Master Jiang could give her orders, and he had no right to defy her. His monthly allowance, she added, would now require her approval. Jiang Baiyu attempted to apologize for his past behavior at the Lantern Boudoir, hoping to appease her.
Unmoved, Shui Wuxia laid out her plan: she would move into a wing room in his courtyard the next day, attend classes with him, and provide exclusive training after hours, strictly forbidding him from leaving her sight for more than fifteen minutes. Jiang Baiyu, asserting his status as the Jiang Family’s Young Master, deemed her actions "too far." He tried to escape through the back door, only to find it locked as per Shui Wuxia's instructions.
His subsequent attempt to jump from a window left him tangled in her rose vines, unable to descend. Shui Wuxia instructed him to remain there overnight to reflect, citing the abundance of bugs. Meanwhile, Qi Delong presented Junior Young Master Jiang Tianling with a detailed monthly schedule for his studies and martial arts training.
Jiang Tianling was impressed, finding the plan meticulous and echoing his own rigorous daily routine, which included early morning martial arts, midday law review, and evening strolls by the lake for relaxation and poetic contemplation. He commended Qi Delong for her dedication, acknowledging the challenges faced by women in such pursuits, and expressed confidence in her success.
Qi Delong lamented the societal limitations placed on women, but Jiang Tianling countered with examples of powerful women like Hua Mulan and Empress Wu Zetian, and praised the capabilities of Lang Ya Maids. Later, Jiang Tianling dismissed Qi Delong to rest, as he still had tasks for his late-night schedule. Overhearing him, Qi Delong was delighted, feeling she had found a kindred spirit. Concurrently, it was revealed that the "Golden Phoenix Pin" had become a significant issue.
Master Ma ordered that news be spread throughout the black market that they were seeking to purchase the pin. He also issued a grim command: if Shen Qingli, whom he viewed as meddlesome, interfered with their plans again, he was to be killed without mercy. The candidates for the Inspector exam, including Jiang Baiyu and Jiang Tianling, attended a class taught by the head instructor, Hou Chang'an, also known as "Chang'an Monkey" due to his cunning.
Hou Chang'an explained that the exam was in 30 days and would comprise four sections, beginning with literature and martial arts fundamentals. When asked to define an Inspector, Jiang Baiyu offered a humorous, albeit partly correct, description of a powerful, high-ranking official. Hou Chang'an elaborated, stating that an Inspector operates independently of local government but holds sway over various matters within their jurisdiction, emphasizing that "with more power comes greater responsibility."
For the literature test, students were tasked with writing a poem, to which Jiang Baiyu submitted a nonsensical rhyme. The class then moved to martial arts, specifically archery. Shui Wuxia coached Jiang Baiyu on proper form, instructing him to raise his bow higher, shift his weight back, and, most importantly, to "follow his heart" when releasing the arrow. With her expert guidance, Shui Wuxia remarkably struck the tail of Jiang Tianling's arrow, splitting it in two.
Jiang Tianling was astonished by Shui Wuxia's skill, admitting he couldn't have made such a precise shot himself, while Jiang Baiyu boasted about his maid's prowess. Shui Wuxia continued Jiang Baiyu’s training, using his prized Luowan Bamboo to test his reflexes by having ink flow down it, which he had to prevent from staining his cherished perfume sachet, a gift from the Lantern Boudoir's "Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter" girls.
Though furious, Jiang Baiyu was forced to comply to save his sachet. Shui Wuxia clarified that these exercises were designed to enhance his archery speed and precision. She then made him sort soybeans to cultivate patience and willpower. Exasperated, Jiang Baiyu instead blended all the beans into soymilk, declared he lacked patience, and stormed off. In retaliation, Shui Wuxia tossed his monthly allowance into a snake cage, instructing him to retrieve it himself, and refused his pleas for help.
Jiang Baiyu eventually retrieved the money, but got his revenge by placing a snake in Shui Wuxia's bed with a note. Shui Wuxia, sensing something was amiss, cautiously checked her bed and was startled by the snake. In response, she hung Jiang Baiyu upside down in his room, commanding him to memorize all the legal texts pasted on his walls by morning, warning him of severe repercussions if he failed. Seeking fresh air, Shui Wuxia encountered Jiang Tianling.
He confirmed her presence was due to his brother. Shui Wuxia confessed that she had never encountered such a defiant person as Jiang Baiyu, puzzled by his self-destructive behavior despite his privileged background. Jiang Tianling explained that his brother was once a gentle, intelligent, and superior individual, but had changed after their uncle's accident. He considered Shui Wuxia's presence a blessing for Baiyu.
Jiang Tianling apologized for being her rival due to his grandmother’s orders, then playfully suggested he might win the exam and then she would be the one apologizing. He then asked for further clarification on her "follow your heart" archery advice. Shui Wuxia taught him stretching exercises, explaining that his years of martial arts practice without proper relaxation led to pain and prevented him from achieving the "unity of man and arrow."
She advised him to incorporate these stretches into his post-training routine. Afterward, Jiang Tianling asked Shui Wuxia to deliver a letter to Qi Delong. Returning to Jiang Baiyu's room, Shui Wuxia discovered that Fang Yuncheng had been substituted for Jiang Baiyu. She interrogated Fang Yuncheng, who eventually confessed that Jiang Baiyu had gone to the black market. Shui Wuxia rushed there, finding Jiang Baiyu hiding. He pulled her close and embraced her, urging silence as black-clad men passed by.
Her hair became entangled in his clothes, and she had to untangle it herself due to his fumbling. He then claimed he had seen a rat, his greatest fear, and insisted they return home. Elsewhere in the black market, Zhezhi inquired about the Golden Phoenix Pin. A vendor showed her a letter from the seller, detailing the pin's price of 8,000 taels and a proposed trade at his shop the following evening. Zhezhi found the price exorbitant.
She later reported to her superior that the seller had taken the bait, and another buyer had appeared that night, who didn't match Shen Qingli's description but might be an accomplice. They planned a comprehensive deployment in the black market the next evening to apprehend everyone involved. As punishment for his escapade, Shui Wuxia found Jiang Baiyu and forced him to spend the night in a cow shed, warning him of potential snakes and rats.
