Pei Su left Luo's house with his luggage. He sat on a chair downstairs, looked up at the moon, and recalled the scene of being homeless when he was a child. Du Jia drove over to pick him up, laughing that he had been discovered by Luo Weizhao. Suddenly, a speeding car blocked their way. Luo Weizhao got out of the car and directly took his luggage. After the two returned home, Luo Weizhao said he knew about the basement.

Pei Su was surprised to hear this, which made him want to escape again. Luo Weizhao pulled him back, saying he saw him self-healing in the basement, and he felt sorry for Pei Su's injuries, not understanding why he did it. Pei Su interrupted him. Luo Weizhao expressed his inner thoughts, saying he subconsciously treated Pei Su as a projection object and was stricter with him than with others.

He knew that Pei Su instinctively lacked empathy but still had compassion for the world. He regretted letting Pei Su face it alone. Pei Su was silent for a long time. When Luo Weizhao turned to leave, he pulled him back and said that Pei Chengyu had used that basement. Pei Su said that Pei Chengyu was extremely terrifying, that he dominated and controlled everything, including Pei Su's mother, who was often punished.

Pei Su had wanted to break free since he was old enough to understand, but he was powerless until his mother committed suicide. Pei Su's mother had instilled the idea of freedom in Pei Su, but Pei Su's Apathy gene caused him to react coldly. Pei Su knew his mother had committed suicide but still intentionally let the investigation team get involved, not only to deal with Pei Chengyu but also the parasitic organization behind Pei Chengyu.

Luo Weizhao thought it might be the Glorious Foundation. Pei Su said the Glorious Foundation was just a shell and they needed to find the real manipulator behind the scenes. That year, when Pei Su's grandfather learned his mother was pregnant, he died in a car accident on the way to visit her.

Pei Su suspected that the organization behind Pei Chengyu had done it, but he didn't expect Pei Chengyu to suffer a backlash, falling out with the organization because of the Binhai District project. The behind-the-scenes organization was too greedy, not satisfied with Pei Chengyu's control, and wanted to grasp more leverage over wealthy people to build their own vast leadership.

Pei Chengyu lost control and no longer provided funding, but the organization still found new sponsors and, conversely, silenced Pei Chengyu. Luo Weizhao recalled the Zhou Huaijing case and suspected that the organization had more than just Pei Chengyu as a backer. Luo Weizhao mentioned Yang Zhengfeng and asked Pei Su if he had any suspicions about this matter. That year, Yang Zhengfeng found clues about the Purifier and was then silenced unexpectedly. He didn't understand the Purifier's purpose.

Pei Su mentioned the cases of Feng Bin and Su Ruowan, both of which had suspicious points. He knew the organization was looking for new sponsors again, and he fit their requirements. Luo Weizhao couldn't bear to listen and didn't want Pei Su to get involved. Pei Su admitted that he had been approached by the organization but had not agreed.

He wanted to bring down the organization at a critical moment and revealed that his joining the special investigation team was suspicious. The agreement that Qiming read that year was in Pei Chengyu's basement. Luo Weizhao didn't believe Pei Su was the Purifier. He told Pei Su not to mislead him with the gene theory, believing that Pei Su was different from other Apaths, and hoping he could trust himself.

Zhang Yifan made up his mind to write about what happened at school to mourn the deceased Feng Bin. Wei Wenxuan and others were taken away by the police. Xiao Hanyang requested to return to the team, but Luo Weizhao didn't agree for the time being. Pei Su said he needed to find Wang Xiao and asked Xiao Hanyang to go to her home with him.

When the two arrived at Wang Xiao's doorstep, Wang Xiao hesitated for a long time whether to open the door. Pei Su left his phone number, asking Wang Xiao to contact him after she had thought it through. After the two left, Pei Su indeed received a call from Wang Xiao. Wang Xiao said she had nothing to say. Pei Su kept guiding her, seizing upon Wang Xiao's inner weakness.

After hearing this, Wang Xiao couldn't help but want to cry. She hesitated several times, wanting to speak but stopping, and finally said that she had heard of Du Guosheng from Liang Yujin. From her description, Pei Su knew that Du Guosheng was Wei Wenxuan's friend and was in the hotel. Wang Xiao was not confident but still pulled open the curtains to look at them, recounting her feelings of inferiority. Xiao Hanyang encouraged her with his own personal experiences.
