Judge Dee's Mystery Episode 31 Recap
> Judge Dee's Mystery Recap
Di Renjie still had a high fever, his consciousness was blurry, and he kept muttering "A-xiong". Cao An therefore asked Li Miao to decoct two more doses of medicine. However, as soon as Li Miao left, a gust of wind blew open the door, scattering the papers and old books all over the room. Among them, an album with ghost and monster patterns caught Cao An's attention.
She recalled that Li Miao had described Zhou Li claiming to have opened his celestial eye before his death, able to see unprovoked disasters and unjustly deceased ghosts. As Cao An flipped through the album, she felt as if there were eyes staring at her, and shivers ran down her spine. Suddenly, the door slightly opened, and the sandalwood that Di Renjie had asked Li Miao to give to Cui Haoran appeared out of thin air.
Cao An followed her memory to search for it, was almost discovered by the disciples in the academy, and in her panic, she rushed into a hidden underground palace. The underground palace corridor was winding and circuitous. Cao An followed the candlelight to the end, pushed open a stone door, and before her eyes was a huge palace. In the front were placed various statues of gods and Buddhas, and opposite was the altar used for sacrifices.
Just as Cao An felt doubt, Li Miao suddenly appeared and explained the whole story to her. It turned out that Chaoyun Academy was originally a Taoist temple in its early years, also named Chaoyun. Coincidentally, during times of chaos, the temple specially sheltered many common people and scholars in addition to the Taoist priests.
However, one night, a group of bandits broke into the Taoist temple and carried out an inhumane massacre inside the temple in search of non-existent treasures. From then on, Chaoyun Temple was completely abandoned and dilapidated, becoming a haunted house. It was not until later that Cui Haoran came here by chance, renovated Chaoyun Temple, and placed the remains of the deceased spirits in the underground palace.
Li Miao told Cao An that the underground palace was built to appease and offer sacrifices to the deceased spirits. He also believed that there were gods, Buddhas, ghosts, and monsters in the world, and therefore believed that what Di Renjie saw was not an illusion, but most likely the accumulation of resentment from the deceased spirits, forming an apparition due to their own obsessions.
Upon hearing this, Cao An felt fear and did not dare to stay in the underground palace for long. -------------------------------------------------- When Di Renjie woke up, the sky was slightly bright, and he did not see Cao An in the room. When he went out to look for her, he encountered several disciples with panicked expressions, hurrying forward carrying a corpse. He had to call out several times before they stopped. Cao An and Li Miao came from the side.
Di Renjie asked about the situation, but Li Miao did not respond and instead asked Cao An to explain the situation to Di Renjie. Cao An described Zhou Li's abnormal behavior before he jumped off the building to Di Renjie, including the man's footprint she had found.
When Di Renjie learned that the sandalwood had appeared at the door for no reason, he linked it to the white-robed child he had seen when he was unconscious, and felt that Chaoyun Academy held a secret.
However, Cao An was worried that the solar eclipse mentioned by Li Miao would trigger the ferocity of the deceased spirits and interfere with Di Renjie's mind, so she advised Di Renjie not to delve deeply into this matter, believing it might be due to his own obsession. As soon as this was said, both of them simultaneously thought of Di Ying. Di Renjie insisted that the dead would not interfere with the living.
Due to a moment of anger, he spoke without thinking, scoffing that Cao An couldn't forget Black Flame, but he would never let the other party interfere with him. Before Cao An could speak, Li Miao had already decocted the medicine and brought it over. Di Renjie silently took the medicine bowl and no longer paid attention to Cao An. After Cao An fell asleep, Di Renjie searched for clues within Chaoyun Academy.
He first visited Cui Haoran and found that the room was empty, but the large tung oil jar next to it was extremely conspicuous. Since the disciples were patrolling nearby, Di Renjie could not investigate further. He could only go to the underground palace according to Cao An's description to look for clues. As a result, he saw a white-robed boy who, upon turning around, looked exactly like A-xiong. Immediately afterwards, he collapsed to the ground and fainted.
At the same time, Cao An was woken up by the sound of a clay pot breaking. Following the sound, she found the medicine pot overturned on the ground, and a small wooden sword left beside the bookshelf. Li Miao asked the disciples to help Di Renjie back to the room. Seeing the overturned medicine pot, his expression was dark and unclear. In his unconscious state, Di Renjie muttered about the wooden sword.
Cao An quickly picked up the wooden sword and examined it carefully, noticing that there was a character "Wei" on it. She instantly thought of the other half of the blurred character on Zhou Li's palm.
