> Joy of Life Season 2 Recap

The Empress immediately recognized that all the figures in Li Chengqian’s paintings were of Li Yunrui. Enraged, she furiously yelled at Li Chengqian. If this matter were to spread, it would not only be a royal scandal, but Li Chengqian’s position as Crown Prince would also be at risk. Realizing the severity of the situation, Li Chengqian burned all the paintings on the spot and swore to sever his feelings for Li Yunrui.

Only then did the Empress relent, eagerly asking him about the situation in Shijiazhen. Li Chengqian had no choice but to admit that the horrific massacre was carried out by him, intending to deepen the enmity between Fan Xian and Li Chengze. Wang Qinian returned home to discuss with his wife. As long as Fan Xian offered him generous treatment, he was willing to follow Fan Xian’s lead.

Fan Xian wanted to use the smuggling incident to bring down Li Yunrui and Li Chengze, but Qing Di spared no effort in protecting them and even threw away Fan Xian’s Inspector's badge. After painstaking investigation, Fan Xian uncovered the crucial lead of Shijiazhen, only to have it all destroyed in a fire set by Li Chengze. Fan Xian felt an unprecedented sense of defeat.

With no outlet for his frustration, he took a bucket and cloth and cleaned the stone tablet in front of the Imperial Inspectorate until it was spotless. It was something his mother Ye Qingmei had left behind—a beautiful wish she made, and also Fan Xian’s lifelong aspiration. But now, he was struggling with every step. Wang Qinian stayed by Fan Xian’s side, offering words of comfort. Feeling helpless, Fan Xian threw a tantrum and threatened to quit.

Wang Qinian encouraged him and swore to do everything he could to help. But Fan Xian still couldn't get over it. Chen Pingping witnessed this and returned the Inspector's badge to Fan Xian, encouraging him not to lose heart. He advised Fan Xian to first understand his opponent’s true intentions and to know both himself and the enemy; otherwise, he would suffer another defeat.

Fan Xian swore to fight Li Chengze to the end, to seek justice for those who had died unjustly like Old Jin and Teng Zijin. Chen Pingping gave Fan Xian some guidance, first advising him to form his own team, and appointing him as the Chief of the First Division of the Imperial Inspectorate. Since Zhu Ge’s death, the First Division had been leaderless.

Its main task was to monitor the officials of the capital, with broad jurisdiction—both a place of disputes and intense battles. Fan Xian could make full use of the division's advantages to expand his power and take on Li Chengze. Fan Xian was immediately interested and poured out all his pent-up feelings. His trip to Northern Qi had made him realize that all his actions from childhood were manipulated by Chen Pingping.

Chen Pingping didn’t want to explain too much; his feelings for Ye Qingmei ran deep, and he was even willing to die for her. He treated Fan Xian as his own son and wanted to arrange everything for him. Fan Xian was half convinced, knowing there were still secrets Chen Pingping hadn’t told, but he didn’t press further. Fan Jian hurriedly arrived at the Imperial Inspectorate, shouting at Chen Pingping.

Fan Xian had just returned from Northern Qi, had been summoned to the palace by Qing Di, and was now at the Inspectorate—he hadn’t even been home yet. The more Fan Jian spoke, the angrier he became. Chen Pingping clarified that he hadn't summoned Fan Xian. Fan Xian explained that he came on his own, just to clean the stone tablet. Without another word, Fan Jian dragged Fan Xian home.

Fan Jian had heard about Fan Xian’s ordeal in the palace and warned him not to confront Li Chengze head-on, nor act hastily. Fan Xian wanted to establish his team quickly. Fan Jian taught him some officialdom tricks, which Fan Xian memorized. He wanted to get off midway to see Lin Wan’er, but didn’t want to disappoint Fan Jian, so he agreed to stay home for a couple of days.

Fan Jian told him to comfort Fan Ruoruo, who constantly worried about him. As soon as Fan Xian got home, he looked for Fan Ruoruo, only to find that she had tried to flee her marriage with her luggage. But she soon returned, believing that Fan Xian would find a way to break off the engagement. Fan Xian promised to help her no matter what it took.

Upon learning that Fan Sizhe had secretly opened a brothel, Fan Jian summoned him. Fan Xian recounted how Li Chengze used the Baoyue Brothel to frame Fan Sizhe. Liu Ruyu was anxious that Fan Sizhe might be punished and wanted to take him to Danzhou to lie low for a while. Fan Xian found that unwise and planned to send Fan Sizhe to Northern Qi instead. Liu Ruyu was reluctant to send Fan Sizhe to faraway Northern Qi to suffer.

Fan Xian patiently explained the stakes to him: only by leaving Southern Qing could he completely escape Li Chengze’s frame-up. After much consideration, Fan Sizhe reluctantly agreed and went back that night to pack. After hastily packing a few clothes, Liu Ruyu gave him countless instructions. Fan Jian came out to see him off and, for the first time, praised him for taking responsibility, hoping he would return soon.

Moved to tears, Fan Sizhe knelt and bid farewell to his parents before leaving home with tears in his eyes. Thunder rolled and heavy rain poured down. Fan Xian prepared a carriage to send Fan Sizhe off. Fan Sizhe looked through the window at the rain-soaked capital, the place where he had grown up. Now, he had to journey alone to Northern Qi, with much reluctance in his heart. Fan Sizhe wanted to cry.

Fan Xian gave him a large sum of money for business. Fan Sizhe's eyes lit up at the sight of the money and he immediately beamed with joy. Fan Xian instructed him to seek out Guo Baokun as soon as he arrived in Northern Qi. Fan Xian escorted Fan Sizhe to the city gate. Yan Bingyun had selected several skilled fighters from the Fourth Division to escort Fan Sizhe north.

Watching the carriage gradually disappear, Fan Xian finally felt at ease to go see Lin Wan’er. Lin Wan’er, having heard about what Fan Xian had faced since returning to the capital, wanted him to focus on handling the upcoming troubles. She hid and did not meet him, asking Ye Ling’er to pass on a message, telling him to focus on his work.

Although Fan Xian didn’t get to see Lin Wan’er, he knew she still cared for him, and left in disappointment. Ye Ling’er admired the relationship between Lin Wan’er and Fan Xian. Thinking of how Qing Di had betrothed her to Li Chengze made her furious. She wanted to stay at Lin Wan’er’s place for a few days to clear her mind, which Lin Wan’er gladly welcomed. Yan Bingyun went to the prison to retrieve Yan Ruohai.

Yan Ruohai scolded him harshly, blaming him for foolishly following Fan Xian. But Yan Bingyun believed in Fan Xian. Yan Ruohai revealed that Chen Pingping would hand over the Imperial Inspectorate to Fan Xian, which greatly surprised Yan Bingyun.
