Heroes Episode 5 Recap
> Heroes Recap
With their coordinated plan in motion, Su Mengzhen and his allies split up to secure the House of Sunset Drizzle. While Wang Xiaoshi, disguised as Su Mengzhen, created a diversion at the House of Sages, Su Mengzhen himself, covered by Bai Choufei, would proceed to meet his ailing father, Su Zhemu. Just before their scheduled time, several of the House's Keepers, including Li Niantang and Mo Beichen, gathered at the House of Sages.
Hua Wucuo, the ambitious Delegate, soon arrived and warned them to choose their loyalties carefully. Inside, the impetuous Keeper Long Xiaoqing confronted the curtained figure he believed to be Su Mengzhen, accusing him of disrespect and putting on the airs of a House Master before his time. As he advanced, Wen Rou, who is Su Mengzhen's martial sister, swiftly doused him with tea.
She then admonished Long Xiaoqing for his lack of decorum, introducing herself as the daughter of Wen Wan, the Lord of Luoyang, and calmly serving tea to the assembled men to assert her noble standing. To stall for time, Wang Xiaoshi, still hidden behind the curtain, claimed he was gravely wounded and poisoned during the ambush at Kushuipu, making him unable to show his face.
He declared that Gu Dong, the one who met him there, was a traitor who facilitated the attack. He explained the true reason for the ambush was a white jade box given to him by a friend of his father's. Citing his injuries, he proposed opening the critically important box in front of everyone present.
Hua Wucuo, a secret agent of the rival Six Half Hall, grew nervous and objected, insisting the box must be delivered to the House Master unopened. As the ruse continued, Wang Xiaoshi's identity as an impostor was eventually exposed. When Hua Wucuo's men prepared to rush in, Wang Xiaoshi skillfully used the Red Sleeve Blade technique to hold them back. At the designated hour, Su Mengzhen and Wang Xiaoshi simultaneously lit joss sticks, signaling the final phase of their operation.
Su Mengzhen advanced on the House of Sunset Drizzle, declaring he would only harm traitors. Bai Choufei intercepted those who stood in his way, swiftly clearing a path and asserting that they were no match for him. When one last turncoat nearly reached Su Mengzhen, an arrow from an unseen archer hired by Bai Choufei struck him down. Inside, Liu Lianxin, who had been anxiously guarding Su Zhemu's door, was relieved to see Su Mengzhen and led him in.
Su Mengzhen presented his father with a pot of Shiniangchun liquor and opened the white jade box, revealing a letter that confirmed Hua Wucuo was a spy. Recognizing his son was ready, Su Zhemu passed on the House Master's ring and two final lessons: to value benevolence and righteousness to win people's hearts, and to understand power, as it governs life and death. His duty done, Su Zhemu drank a final toast to his son's ascension and passed away peacefully.
Immediately, Bai Choufei launched fireworks, a signal of their success. The display confirmed to everyone at the House of Sages that they had been deceived by an impostor. Hua Wucuo tried to rush back, but Wang Xiaoshi informed him it was too late—Su Mengzhen was now in control.
Watching from a distance, Lei Chun, the daughter of the Six Half Hall's chief, smiled, satisfied that Su Mengzhen had won after her father and his allies broke their promise by attacking him first. Back at the House, Su Mengzhen, holding his father's memorial tablet, confronted Hua Wucuo. He acknowledged their past as sworn brothers but called him a traitor. Hua Wucuo admitted to the charge but defended his years of service.
Su Mengzhen countered that allowing a member of the Six Half Hall to lead would destroy their House. Recalling his father’s final wish to spare a man who still had a shred of humanity, Su Mengzhen demanded Hua Wucuo admit his defeat and wrongdoing. Acknowledging his loss, Hua Wucuo conceded. In a show of mercy, Su Mengzhen burned the incriminating letter but publicly expelled Hua Wucuo for his disloyalty and attempt to usurp the leadership.
He then pardoned the other Keepers, declaring their past allegiances forgiven. " In the future, the House of Sunset Drizzle is me. I am the House of Sunset Drizzle," he proclaimed, reciting the House's motto to a new chorus of loyalty. Afterward, Su Mengzhen ascended to the House's highest point and struck a sorrowful bell for his father. Recalling his father's words that he was the "centurial plan" for the House, he was overcome with grief and coughed up blood.
Meanwhile, at the Six Half Hall, Chief Elder Lei Sun received the news of Hua Wucuo's expulsion, remarking that Hua was "muddle-headed" for ever thinking he belonged with the enemy. He declared Hua Wucuo a traitor to the Six Half Hall as well and ordered him to be dealt with. Lei Sun mused that he felt little joy in his rival Su Zhemu's death, as the world would now be less interesting.
He poured a cup of wine which was then lowered into a deep well for his old foe. When his daughter Lei Chun arrived, he chided her for wearing a mourning token for Su Zhemu, reminding her the engagement to Su Mengzhen was annulled years ago.
He urged her to forget Su Mengzhen and demanded the return of her Six Half Hall token, but she refused, expressing her disinterest in his ambitions and her intent to stay and support the newly instated House Master Su Mengzhen. Later, on a rooftop under the moonlight, Wang Xiaoshi, Bai Choufei, and Wen Rou shared their aspirations.
Bai Choufei declared his intent to join the House of Sunset Drizzle and become the "brightest flame" in the martial arts world, one day surpassing even Su Mengzhen to set the rules himself. Wen Rou rejected the traditional path laid out for women of her standing, vowing to learn martial arts, roam the world, and be a heroine who helps the weak, proclaiming, "I don't want my life to be dictated by others."
Wang Xiaoshi wished to become a true hero—the "best version of himself." He aimed to bring justice to the world and inspire others with swords to do the same. The three friends toasted to their futures.
