Wen Nuan returned home, and her sister Wen Rou immediately expressed concern over her demanding work schedule, suggesting she should quit her job. Wen Rou told Nuan that she couldn't sleep well when Nuan wasn't home. Nuan, however, explained that she had just been promoted to president's assistant and needed time to adapt, especially with the ongoing Alpha bid. She assured her sister that things would soon be less hectic.
Wen Rou was insistent, revealing her disapproval of Nuan working at Shallow Cosmos and becoming the president's assistant. She emphasized that Zhan Nanxian, having built Shallow Cosmos from scratch over the past seven years, was no longer the man Nuan once knew. Wen Rou pleaded with Nuan to consider finding another job, reiterating her fear that Nuan would be hurt again. Nuan calmly reassured her sister not to worry, implying she was capable of handling the situation.
The next morning, Zhu Linlu arrived to pick up Wen Nuan for work, explaining that Wen Rou had asked him to. Wen Nuan was surprised, noting that her sister had seemed "weird" and left in a hurry without revealing her destination. While Zhu Linlu drove, Wen Rou was nervously waiting for Zhan Nanxian. A flashback showed her youthful self confessing her feelings to him: "Zhan Nanxian. . . I like you."
Her unrequited love had led to a suicide attempt, leaving a scar on her wrist that Wen Nuan later discovered. When Zhan Nanxian finally appeared, Wen Rou directly asked him why he insisted on having Wen Nuan as his assistant. Zhan Nanxian maintained a serious demeanor, explaining that Wen Nuan was simply an employee at Shallow Cosmos, not important enough for him to treat her differently.
He then turned the conversation, asking Wen Rou if she knew about the numerous calls Wen Nuan had made to him at night. Wen Rou, surprised, quickly explained that Wen Nuan was sleepwalking. She elaborated that Nuan had suffered from sleepwalking during her studies in Britain due to intense academic pressure and would sometimes call her or Zhu Linlu while unconscious. Wen Rou apologized for any disturbance, stressing that Nuan was completely unaware of her actions.
Zhan Nanxian appeared skeptical, but Wen Rou was adamant and advised him not to mention it to Wen Nuan, nor to anyone else in the company, as it would not be good for her reputation. During their drive, Zhu Linlu brought up Shallow Cosmos's bid for Alpha, asking if Wen Nuan had any insider information. Wen Nuan firmly refused to act as a "business spy" for Daizhong, stating she would not betray Shallow Cosmos.
Zhu Linlu expressed his concern that others might view her with suspicion given her relationship with him and her access to confidential documents at Shallow Cosmos. Wen Nuan asserted that she only cared about diligently performing her own work. Upon their arrival at Shallow Cosmos, Wen Nuan encountered Du Xintong, who made a snide remark about Wen Nuan’s new work plate for the 66th floor.
Zhan Nanxian intervened, leading Wen Nuan to his private elevator and revealing its password: her birthday. Inside the elevator, Zhan Nanxian questioned Wen Nuan about her conversation with Wen Rou that morning. Wen Nuan denied having told her sister anything specific about him. Zhan Nanxian then directly asked why she, as Zhu Linlu's girlfriend, had come to work at Shallow Cosmos. Playing along, Wen Nuan mockingly claimed she had accepted a "huge check" from Daizhong to become a "business spy."
Zhan Nanxian announced that Mr. Leng Rufeng, President of Leng Group, would arrive in Shanghai the following morning. Mr. Leng would first visit Shallow Cosmos for half a day, then proceed to Daizhong in the evening. Emphasizing the critical importance of this visit for the Alpha bid, Zhan Nanxian assigned Wen Nuan full responsibility for receiving Mr. Leng, instructing Du Xintong’s administrative department to cooperate. Du Xintong reluctantly agreed.
Simultaneously, Zhu Linlu held a meeting at Daizhong, also preparing for Mr. Leng's visit. He stressed the need for a strong impression, especially since Mr. Leng would visit Shallow Cosmos first. Zhu Linlu highlighted that Daizhong must win the initial encounter against Shallow Cosmos, despite some of his relatives, such as his second uncle and cousin Zhu Linghong, seeming to undermine his efforts by dismissing Shallow Cosmos’s bid.
Zhu Linlu emphasized the need for thorough preparation and not underestimating their rivals. Wen Nuan then printed out the detailed reception plan for Leng Group and handed it to Du Xintong. However, driven by resentment and jealousy over Wen Nuan securing the president's assistant position, Du Xintong discreetly shredded the important documents, completely destroying them. That evening, Wen Nuan returned home to find Wen Rou waiting.
Wen Nuan gently chided her sister for meeting with Zhan Nanxian, asserting that she could manage her own affairs. Wen Nuan maturely conveyed that past events were not solely her sister's fault, and therefore Wen Rou need not carry such a heavy burden of worry for her. The next day, Mr. Leng Rufeng arrived at Shallow Cosmos.
Wen Nuan, acting as Zhan Nanxian's special assistant, greeted him, confidently stating that Shallow Cosmos would not disappoint him because they possessed "the best CEO in the world." Zhan Nanxian then introduced his two partners and general managers, Gao Fang and Guan Ti, before they proceeded to their meeting. During the visit, a meticulously prepared English afternoon tea was served. Mr. Leng praised the pastries, which Chi Bika delightedly attributed to Du Xintong.
However, Du Xintong's preparations had included peanut butter, to which Mr. Leng was allergic. Fortunately, Wen Nuan had anticipated this and had discreetly replaced the offending items, averting a major mishap. After Leng Rufeng left Shallow Cosmos satisfied, Chi Bika severely reprimanded Du Xintong for her significant error regarding the client's allergies. Ding Xiaodai tried to explain that Wen Nuan had printed out and personally delivered the detailed client preferences, including allergy information, to Du Xintong.
However, Du Xintong denied everything to evade responsibility. Zhan Nanxian, determined to uncover the truth, instructed Chi Bika to thoroughly investigate the matter. Mr. Leng then visited Daizhong, but Zhu Linlu’s second uncle and cousin, Zhu Linghong, deliberately caused problems during the meeting, causing Mr. Leng to feel slighted and infuriating Zhu Linlu. With great foresight, Zhan Nanxian had tasked Wen Nuan with researching Leng Group's senior advisors.
Thanks to Wen Nuan's diligent preparation, she performed exceptionally well during a subsequent meeting, earning praise from Guan Ti. This made Wen Nuan feel a surge of gratitude towards Zhan Nanxian. At the bidding conference, Zhan Nanxian and Zhu Linlu competed fiercely. Zhan Nanxian, observing Leng Rufeng's inclination towards the advice of the left-hand consultant, quickly and instinctively collaborated with Wen Nuan.
Their swift action in finding and presenting supporting data gave Shallow Cosmos a crucial advantage, leading Guan Ti to commend Wen Nuan's impressive capabilities. During a break, Leng Rufeng invited both Zhan Nanxian and Zhu Linlu for tea. He candidly admitted his indecision between Shallow Cosmos and Daizhong and extended an invitation to both bidders to visit Britain for an on-site inspection of Alpha before making his final decision.
Back at Shallow Cosmos, in the elevator, Zhan Nanxian asked Wen Nuan for her thoughts on the bid. Wen Nuan offered no particular opinion. Suddenly, Zhan Nanxian turned, moved closer to Wen Nuan, and murmured about how to break her "heart of stone." Feeling flustered, Wen Nuan tried to brush off his words, but Zhan Nanxian's eyes remained deep and intense, as if he intended to consume her.
That evening, when Wen Nuan arrived home, Zhu Linlu eagerly followed, enthusiastically detailing how he had managed to win back Leng Rufeng’s favor. He explained that he had engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Mr. Leng, sincerely stating that the Alpha project was crucial for Daizhong's survival and expressing his desire for a long-term strategic partnership. This sincerity had greatly impressed Mr. Leng, placing Daizhong on equal footing with Shallow Cosmos for the final competition.
Later, Chi Bika had a serious discussion with Du Xintong. Despite Du Xintong's initial attempts to justify her actions, Chi Bika's growing anger eventually made her comply. To keep her job, Du Xintong reluctantly agreed to write a self-reflection report. When Ding Xiaodai learned of the incident, she informed Wen Nuan, who, with her kind and forgiving nature, expressed concern for Du Xintong's situation.
While Ding Xiaodai and Wen Nuan were playfully teasing each other, Wen Nuan almost slipped and fell. Zhan Nanxian quickly rushed forward and caught her, holding her tightly. In her startled state, Wen Nuan instinctively cried out "Nanxian," a moment that surprised and pleased him. Du Xintong, who was nearby and still resentful, deliberately pushed Wen Nuan, causing her to bump into the elevator. Ultimately, Du Xintong received her deserved punishment.
Zhan Nanxian ordered her to undergo three months of training alongside new employees. Unable to defy the order, Du Xintong vented her anger on Ding Xiaodai. Witnessing her assistant being bullied, Wen Nuan, no longer willing to tolerate it, stepped in and made Du Xintong apologize to Ding Xiaodai. Afterwards, Zhan Nanxian called Wen Nuan into his office. He looked with concern at a bruise on her arm.
With clear eyes, Wen Nuan explained that Ding Xiaodai was a kind girl, and if she didn't speak up, Ding Xiaodai would continue to be harassed. Zhan Nanxian gazed at Wen Nuan, realizing how much Ding Xiaodai's vulnerable yet good-hearted nature resembled Wen Nuan in the past.
