Granting You a Dreamlike Life Episode 36 Recap
> Granting You a Dreamlike Life Recap
Police officers burst into Luo Fusheng's prison cell, pointing their guns at his head. They declared they were acting on Xu Xingcheng's orders to execute Luo Fusheng immediately, as Xu Xingcheng had promised Luo Fusheng would not survive the day. Meanwhile, Xu Xingcheng and Hong Lan were in the midst of their wedding ceremony. The atmosphere was cold, lacking any genuine affection. During the vows, Hong Lan was distracted, hoping Luo Fusheng would somehow appear.
Xu Xingcheng, noticing her preoccupation, mockingly leaned in and told her that Luo Fusheng had already been shot and killed at the moment the wedding march began. Hong Lan was shocked and enraged. Suddenly, Luo Fusheng appeared, walking boldly into the hall. A stunned Xu Xingcheng immediately accused him of escaping prison and ordered his arrest. Luo Fusheng, however, remained calm and produced a special pardon signed by Mayor Cui, which silenced Xu Xingcheng and his men.
It was later revealed that this pardon was obtained with the help of Huang Xinghan, at Tianying's request. Consumed by hatred, Xu Xingcheng pulled out a gun and held it to Luo Fusheng's throat. Undeterred, Luo Fusheng brought Xu's mother, Liu Shuzhen, into the hall, intending to reveal the truth about past events to everyone present.
Seated in a wheelchair, Liu Shuzhen, with tears streaming down her face, stared intently at Xu Ruian and exposed the shocking truth: Xu Ruian was the one who shot and killed Xia Anni. She explained that Xu Ruian had kept her imprisoned for years, fearing she would reveal his crime. Lin Daoshan and others were furious upon hearing this and grabbed Xu Ruian by the collar. In a desperate act, Xu Ruian fired his gun, killing his wife, Liu Shuzhen.
Witnessing his mother's murder, Xu Xingcheng was overcome with rage and, in front of everyone, shot and killed his own father. The crowd was aghast. Lin Daoshan, realizing he had mistakenly killed Luo Qinggeng years ago, sincerely bowed and apologized to Luo Fusheng and Hong Zhengbao. Luo Fusheng, demonstrating great magnanimity, forgave Lin Daoshan, expressing his desire for an end to their families' cycle of hatred.
The long-standing feud between the two families finally dissipated, and Lin Daoshan and Hong Zhengbao embraced. Later, as Hong Lan was dressing at the Xu family home, Xu Xingcheng entered, feigning concern. Hong Lan threatened to take her own life if he came any closer. Xu Xingcheng coldly informed her that with Xu Ruian dead, the fate of the Hong family now rested in his hands, compelling Hong Lan to submit to his will.
He demanded that she act as his virtuous wife in public, otherwise her family would suffer. Hong Lan, exasperated, declared they would sleep in separate rooms from then on. Luo Fusheng visited Tianying, bringing her small wontons, and their past disagreements about breaking up were put aside. He acknowledged that it was Tianying who had asked Huang Xinghan for help to secure his special pardon from the mayor.
Tianying revealed she had a new goal: to create opera films to preserve the art form, as her father's performances were lost after his death. She reflected on the recent family feuds, noting that no one truly won, leaving only pain. She realized the importance of the greater good, beyond individual interests. Huang Xinghan then privately told Tianying that he was a member of the Taixing club, an organization dedicated to helping the poor and resisting the Japanese.
He explained that he approached her due to her resilient character and valuable qualities, and he hoped she would join them to help gather intelligence about the Japanese "Earthworm program." Tianying, a patriotic young woman, readily agreed to help, recognizing the importance of their cause and grateful for their role in saving Luo Fusheng. Xu Xingcheng was appointed the chief inspector of Dongjiang, a position he reveled in, believing his power was growing significantly.
Xu Xingyuan reassured Lin Qikai that Xu Xingcheng and Hong Lan were getting along well at home, urging him not to worry. During his work, Xu Xingcheng received a mysterious letter. Following the address in the letter, he was astonished to find that the person who invited him was Feiyan. Feiyan revealed herself to be a Japanese spy and tried to persuade Xu Xingcheng to unite the three major families under his control for the benefit of the Japanese forces.
She promised that if he succeeded, he would gain not only Tianying but also the highest position in Dongjiang, including Mayor Cui's office. Xu Xingcheng, unsure how to respond, left abruptly. Feiyan explained that the "Earthworm program" was a massive Japanese infiltration plan designed to silently penetrate Dongjiang's financial, political, cultural, and economic sectors, replacing overt warfare with subtle invasion. She confirmed that Xu Xingcheng himself was intended to be an "earthworm" in this plan.
Later, Luo Fusheng encountered Hong Lan at a coffee shop and bought her favorite cake. This public display, however, led to gossip among other police officers, who criticized Hong Lan for supposedly flirting with another man so soon after her marriage. Meanwhile, Xu Xingcheng invited Hong Zhengbao and Lin Daoshan to dinner. He proposed that he, representing the East Asian commercial bank, should acquire shares in Lin's film company and Hong's dock business, aiming to mutually profit.
He emphasized that with their combined strength, they could control Dongjiang's wealth and solidify their power. Hong Zhengbao expressed concern about Xu Xingcheng's association with the Japanese, but Xu Xingcheng dismissed it, stating that distinctions between Japanese and Chinese were irrelevant, and his actions were to secure a better future for himself and Hong Lan.
