Granting You a Dreamlike Life Episode 34 Recap
> Granting You a Dreamlike Life Recap
Xu Xingcheng is now aware of the devastating truth about Anne's murder and his father, Xu Ruian's, involvement. In a separate scene, Xu Ruian boasts to his imprisoned wife, Liu Shengchen, about his intricate scheme. He confesses that he had long coveted Anne, who ultimately married Lin Daoshan. Driven by his cruel nature, Xu Ruian shot Anne and cunningly framed Luo Fusheng’s father, Luo Qinggeng, for the murder.
Believing Luo Qinggeng was the killer, Lin Daoshan retaliated by killing Luo Qinggeng. Xu Ruian further manipulated Lin Daoshan into believing that Hong Zhengbao had orchestrated Luo Qinggeng's actions, thereby igniting an unresolvable feud between the Lin and Hong families. He asserts this scheme was a success, establishing the Xu family's dominance in Dongjiang. Liu Shengchen, however, taunts him, asserting that his true nature will be exposed once Lin Ruomeng returns.
Xu Ruian dismisses her, confident that a young Lin Ruomeng would remember nothing and that he remains her benevolent "Uncle Xu." She continues to provoke him, suggesting his fear of losing power and facing his sins. Xu Ruian, enraged, silences her forcefully. At the Hong residence, a heavily intoxicated Hong Lan confronts her father, Hong Zhengbao.
He expresses concern over her state and reminds her of her impending marriage to Xu Xingcheng, highlighting the Xu family's growing influence and describing Xu Xingcheng as a talented and suitable match. Hong Lan furiously interjects, accusing her father of demeaning them both. She tearfully reveals that she has lost her honor, making her a laughingstock in Dongjiang, and questions his priorities, asserting his focus on fame and rivaling the Lin family overshadows her suffering.
She blames Xu Xingcheng for her predicament and declares she will "never marry" into the Xu family. Enraged, Hong Zhengbao grabs a pistol, intending to confront Xu Xingcheng. However, Hong Lan's stepmother intervenes, reminding him that the families are already engaged and that Hong Lan and Xu Xingcheng have "consummated their relationship." She advises him to prioritize the Hong family's strategic alliance and Hong Lan's reputation. After careful consideration, Hong Zhengbao reluctantly concedes, putting away the gun.
Meanwhile, Xu Xingcheng, still harboring resentment, looks at photos of Lin Ruomeng and Luo Fusheng, intending to use them to break up the pair. Concurrently, Lin Daoshan confronts Lin Ruomeng with photos of her and Luo Fusheng, demanding an explanation for their secret relationship. Lin Ruomeng confirms that Luo Fusheng is the one who has consistently protected her. Lin Daoshan rejects this, asserting that no son of Luo Qinggeng can be close to his daughter.
He reveals the painful truth: Lin Ruomeng's mother, Anne, "died under Luo Qinggeng's gun." Devastated, Lin Ruomeng refuses to believe her father, insisting she will only accept the truth from Luo Fusheng himself. She then seeks out Luo Fusheng, who is equally shocked by this revelation. He promises to find answers, planning to question Hong Zhengbao.
Lin Ruomeng, terrified of what the truth might reveal, desperately pleads with him to abandon the investigation and "forget all about this matter," hoping to avoid further heartache. Luo Fusheng, however, believes they must uncover the truth for peace of mind and departs to seek answers from Hong Zhengbao. Luo Fusheng arrives at the Hong residence, seeking the truth. Hong Zhengbao initially attempts to dismiss him, but under relentless questioning, he finally reveals the painful details.
He admits he does not know who killed Anne, but unequivocally states that "Lin Daoshan is the killer of your father." He confesses to having lied about Luo Qinggeng's death being due to "gang revenge," explaining he concealed the truth because Luo Fusheng was too young. Now, he imparts the "truth" and urges Luo Fusheng to "stay away from Lin Ruomeng" and the entire Lin family, emphasizing the gravity of the "revenge of killing the father."
A deeply shaken Luo Fusheng returns to Lin Ruomeng and falsely claims that Hong Zhengbao "doesn't know" the full truth, suggesting they should not dwell on it until the facts are clearer. Lin Ruomeng, relieved, interprets this as a sign of a "big misunderstanding." Shortly after, Luo Fusheng calls Lin Daoshan, agreeing to meet and resolve their "past grievances." During their tense encounter, Luo Fusheng directly asks Lin Daoshan if he killed Luo Qinggeng.
Lin Daoshan frankly admits, "I did kill your father," explaining he sought revenge because he believed Luo Qinggeng was "the one who killed my wife first." He recounts rushing to the scene after hearing a gunshot, finding his wife Anne "fallen into a pool of blood" with Luo Qinggeng holding a gun, which led him to conclude Luo Qinggeng was the murderer.
Luo Fusheng presses him, highlighting that Lin Daoshan "didn't see it with your own eyes" that his father shot Anne. Lin Daoshan refuses to elaborate further, instead warning Luo Fusheng that he now "knows too many things that I shouldn't have known" and has "fallen in love with people who should not be loved." He adamantly declares that he will "never let Ruomeng be with you" and threatens Luo Fusheng if he refuses to let go.
Luo Fusheng, however, remains unyielding, asserting his right to know the truth and his refusal to give up the woman he loves, but promises to hold off on revenge until "this matter is fully understood." Unbeknownst to Lin Daoshan, Lin Ruomeng had secretly overheard his conversation with Luo Fusheng. Distraught, she pleads with her father to spare Luo Fusheng. Lin Daoshan explains that Luo Fusheng is now seeking revenge on him.
He then emotionally declares that "everything Dad does is for your own good," and demands that Lin Ruomeng swear to "break up with him from today on" and have "no more contact with him," threatening that otherwise, "he didn't die, I die." Later, Lin Ruomeng tearfully expresses her deep regret to Luo Fusheng for having investigated their parents' past grievances, stating that no matter the truth, it will only bring pain and separate them.
She pleads with him to let the past go, wishing to preserve their relationship after all they have endured. Luo Fusheng, despite his internal struggle, promises her that he will. Meanwhile, Xu Xingcheng secretly follows his father and discovers his mother imprisoned in a deep dungeon. He threatens the guards, warning them of harm to their families when they initially refuse due to Xu Ruian's strict orders, and gains entry.
Mother and son share an emotional reunion; his mother, initially disoriented, eventually recognizes him as "Xincheng." They weep as they embrace. She shares her sorrow of being confined and missing him and his brother, Xinyuan. Xu Xingcheng vows to expose Xu Ruian's true face, avenge his mother, and free her from her imprisonment. While serving tea to her father, Lin Ruomeng accidentally overhears Lin Daoshan on a phone call.
He confirms he was behind the previous assassination attempt on Luo Fusheng and now plans another, more decisive attack, stating he doesn't want to "see him again in Dongjiang." Horrified, Lin Ruomeng immediately calls Luo Cheng, warning him that "someone is going to kill your eldest brother tonight" and pleading with him to protect Luo Fusheng.
That night, Luo Fusheng is sharing a drink with Hou Li, who had been teasing him about his situation with Lin Ruomeng and the Hong family. Suddenly, Hu Qi's gang attacks them. Despite their previous antagonism, Hou Li courageously intervenes to protect Luo Fusheng, stating he won't let Luo Fusheng die. In the ensuing struggle, Hou Li is fatally wounded. With his last breath, he instructs Luo Fusheng to "protect the master, guard Hongjia."
Luo Cheng arrives shortly after Hou Li's death. Luo Fusheng, injured, learns from Luo Cheng that Hong Zhengbao is at MGM and rushes there, fearing the attackers might target his adoptive father next. At MGM, Luo Fusheng finds Hong Zhengbao enjoying his favorite Longjing tea. He informs a shocked Hong Zhengbao of Hou Li's death and the ambush, explaining that he came to warn him.
Seeing Luo Fusheng's injuries and realizing the gravity of the situation, Hong Zhengbao acknowledges the escalating threat against the Hong family and vows to demand answers from Xu Ruian at the police station the next morning. Softening his previous harsh stance, Hong Zhengbao insists that Luo Fusheng stay at MGM for safety and mutual protection. Luo Fusheng agrees. Meanwhile, Xu Ruian receives news of Hou Li's death and Luo Fusheng's injury.
Recognizing the Hong family's weakening position and the Lin family's growing power, he devises a new scheme. He contemplates that if Lin Ruomeng, who looks strikingly similar to Anne, has no memory of the past, then marrying Xu Xingcheng to her would be far more advantageous than the engagement with Hong Lan, viewing it as a symbolic "compensation" for his unfulfilled feelings for Anne.
Later, Xu Xingcheng questions Xu Ruian about the attacks on the Hong family, but Xu Ruian deflects, instructing his son to investigate himself. Xu Ruian then subtly probes Xu Xingcheng about his affections, implying his intention to pursue the marriage alliance with the Lin family.
