Lin Xiaoran attempts to disrupt the other runners' rhythm by accelerating early, but Liu Yubai remains unaffected, maintaining his own pace. They run alongside each other for the first two laps, conserving energy.
When Liu Yubai playfully asks why he is so competitive, Lin Xiaoran retorts that he should win first before talking. As they begin the third lap, Lin Xiaoran declares he is breaking away. Both sprint with full effort and cross the finish line at the exact same moment. After the race, teachers Wang Qibei and Liao Shichang, along with their students, engage in a heated debate over who won.
The stadium announcer resolves the dispute, declaring Lin Xiaoran and Liu Yubai as joint first-place winners, both with a time of four minutes and twenty-six seconds. Showing a newfound respect, Lin Xiaoran shakes Liu Yubai's hand. However, his good mood sours when Nan Xiangwan praises Liu Yubai. She teases Lin Xiaoran, calling him a "sports student" and implying his performance was expected. Liu Yubai defends him, stating that not all athletes can achieve such a result.
Nan Xiangwan then questions Lin Xiaoran about his underperformance in the high jump, where he only managed 4. 4 meters. Nan Xiangwan consoles her, explaining that while her song was cool, it likely lacked an "empathy" factor for the judges who were unfamiliar with their school. She predicts that in a few years, Jiang Daling's song will become popular on a music platform due to nostalgia. This lifts Jiang Daling's spirits. Soon after, Principal Hu and Director Zhang arrive.
