Seeking shelter from a downpour, Zhang Yinyin and her disciples entered a cave, despite one disciple's reminder that the adjacent cave was a forbidden area. Hearing voices from within, Yinyin's curiosity was piqued, and she ventured into the forbidden cave to investigate. Inside, a woman in red robes named Su He was bound by powerful demon-suppressing chains. Cursing the Xixuan Sect, she struggled to break free. Upon seeing Yinyin, Su He recognized her and taunted her to come closer.

Yinyin was immediately entranced and fainted. Her disciple, Ji Xiao'er, was by her side when she awoke with a splitting headache, a recurring ailment. Su He laughed, revealing the headache was caused by a Huanyao Root she had given Yinyin twenty years prior. Yinyin recalled a childhood memory of a great demon luring her with a beautiful flower, after which her chronic headaches began.

Su He mocked her, stating this was retribution for the Hierarch's past actions against the demon clan and that soon, the fully grown root would turn Yinyin into a demon. Yinyin defiantly retorted that she would never become a demon. At that moment, Ji Ruochen arrived, swiftly attacked the distracted Su He, and ushered the dazed Yinyin and her disciple out of the cave.

Once outside, Ruochen gave Yinyin a bracelet he had fashioned from a piece of the demon-suppressing chain, hoping it would alleviate the demonic energy within her. He expressed regret for not realizing sooner that her headaches were caused by demon poison. Wearing the bracelet, Yinyin's pain subsided. Ruochen reassured her that even if she became a demon, she would always be his senior sister, and he would never abandon her, declaring that he belonged to her.

Soon after, the Hierarch appeared, chastising Yinyin for trespassing. Ruochen immediately took full responsibility, and seeing his sincerity, the Hierarch let her off with a warning. Elsewhere, a woman named Luo Xichen asked the Imperial Advisor to help find her brother, Luo Feng. The Advisor revealed Luo Feng was killed by a member of the Xixuan Sect.

He suggested that revenge was only possible with the help of a powerful prince, Li An of Haofang, and invited her to join his Zhenwu Temple on an upcoming trip to Haofang City. During the Xixuan Sect's annual exam, Ji Ruochen faced Zhao Qianli. Outmatched, Zhao Qianli used a treacherous weapon, the Deity Binding Rope, to attack Ruochen.

In response, Ruochen unleashed the Dissociation Immortal Technique, a power he had absorbed from the ancient King Wen's Mountains and Rivers Cauldron, turning the weapon against its owner. The Hierarch stopped the match and later explained to Ruochen that the cauldron was a sacred treasure of Xixuan. He acknowledged Ruochen's identity as a banished god but warned him not to use the powerful and conspicuous technique again to avoid provoking jealousy.

In a later match against Zhang Yinyin, Ruochen clearly held back, even using his own body to cushion her from a fall, ultimately allowing her to win. That night, Yinyin's mother confronted her for secretly treating Ruochen's injuries. She warned her daughter against pursuing a romance with a banished god, who is destined to ascend, emphasizing their different paths would only lead to heartbreak. Yinyin insisted she would remain close to Ruochen.

As her parents argued, her mother suddenly clutched her head in pain, claiming she had to hide before her "demon form" was revealed, and rushed inside, leaving her oblivious husband confused. Following the turmoil of the competition, the Hierarch spoke with another elder, expressing his intent to cancel the rest of the exam.

He feared Ruochen, with only a fraction of his power restored, was already too strong for the other disciples and that his presence would lead to more conflict. Meanwhile, resentful disciples confronted Ruochen, who effortlessly defeated them. Later, Ruochen confided in Sect Leader Xuxuan that he was biding his time in Qingxu, as he was not yet powerful enough to confront a "fake" who posed a threat.

Soon, visitors arrived from Yun Zhong Ju: the Chief of Jinshan and his two disciples, Gu Qing and Shi Ji. The Hierarch suspected ulterior motives, recalling a past rivalry. Gu Qing, a "female banished god," was breathtakingly beautiful. As she scanned the crowd, her gaze locked on a jade pendant around Ruochen's neck. Her heart raced as she recognized it as the one she had given to a patrol immortal long ago, wondering if Ruochen was the one she had been waiting for.
