Wuyan went back to her hometown hospital to see her father. After brain surgery, he couldn’t speak clearly. Seeing him in that state, Wuyan felt heartbroken. Her father asked about her boyfriend, not about his illness or family matters. He only asked if she truly loved him. If she did, then he would support all her decisions. Her mother was somewhat comforted to see her come back but still kept a stern face.
Wuyan wanted her mother to rest and let her care for her father, but she didn't really know how to do it. The two had a small argument outside the hospital room. After Xiaolu got the full story, she told Su Nianqin that Wuyan’s father really was sick and wasn’t faking it to trick his daughter into coming home. She criticized Su Nianqin for being too socially unaware.
Su Nianqin admitted he had once received a call from Wuyan’s mother and learned that Wuyan had fallen out with her family because they disapproved of their relationship. After finding out, he selfishly pretended not to know and even proposed to Wuyan. After Wei Hao found out about Wuyan’s father, he made a special trip home to visit. Wuyan’s mother liked him very much and lamented that her daughter didn’t cherish such a good man.
She said if it weren’t for Wuyan’s foolishness, Wei Hao might have already been her son-in-law. Even though Wuyan said Su Nianqin was a good man and loved her, now that her father was gravely ill, Su hadn’t shown up. Wuyan still made excuses for him, saying his poor eyesight made travel difficult. Su Nianqin’s father was critically ill. Xiaolu dragged him to the hospital, but by the time he arrived, the doctors were already trying to save him.
Although he had deep issues with his father, he refused to eat, drink, or speak while waiting and eventually collapsed. During some free time, Wuyan called Su Nianqin, but his phone had been left at home during the rush to the hospital, so no one answered. Finally, Xiaolu called her to say Su Nianqin had fainted. Wuyan was torn but, after getting her parents' permission, rushed back to his city. After receiving IV fluids, Su Nianqin slowly recovered.
Yu Weilan came to visit him. When he woke up, he told her he had forgiven her and wouldn’t dwell on the past. She advised him to apologize to Wuyan. However, Su Nianqin refused. Although it was wrong of him to say Wuyan’s parents had faked illness to deceive her, he believed that in their eyes, he was just a burden. If they didn’t like him, there was nothing left to say.
Wuyan, just arriving outside the hospital room, heard everything. Her parents didn’t like him, but they never called him a burden in front of her. Her father was sick, and she had rushed back and forth just to see him, only to hear sarcasm. Su Nianqin, using his physical disability and insecurity, stood on the moral high ground and hurt those around him without mercy.
She had thought her love could help her tolerate his bad temper and neurosis, but now she realized that wasn't true. Storming out of the hospital, Wuyan got a call from her mother apologizing for her earlier harsh words to Su Nianqin and asking Wuyan to apologize on her behalf. Wuyan, still angry, said her mother had done nothing wrong. Woken up by Wuyan’s harsh words, Su Nianqin chased after her but she was already gone.
